Allah’s Signs in Creation

The Heavens and the Earth

The heavens and the earth are among the greatest visible signs of Allah. This page reflects on their creation in six days, the seven heavens, the earth, the space between them, and the purpose behind creation without forcing scientific claims or guessing beyond revelation.

Foundation Created by Allah

The heavens and the earth are signs, not independent powers

  • Allah is the Creator of both. The sky above us and the earth beneath us did not create themselves, run themselves, or own benefit and harm by themselves.
  • They are signs pointing to Allah. Islam does not teach people to worship nature. It teaches them to look through creation toward the Creator.
  • Their size should increase humility. The wider the heavens appear to us, the smaller our arrogance should become.
  • Their order should increase certainty. The heavens, earth, day, night, rain, land, sea, plants, and human life are not chaos without meaning.
  • The believer reflects and remembers. Qur’an connects reflection on the heavens and the earth with remembrance of Allah while standing, sitting, and lying down.

Six Days No fatigue

Allah created the heavens and the earth in six days

  • The Qur’an repeats this truth many times. Allah created the heavens and the earth in six days, and creation belongs to Him alone.
  • This does not mean Allah needed time because of weakness. Allah creates by His command. The six days are from His wisdom, not from any inability.
  • Allah did not become tired. The Qur’an directly rejects the idea that creation caused weariness or fatigue to Allah.
  • We do not turn this into an argument over modern calendars. The point of the verse is Allah’s lordship, power, order, wisdom, and control.
  • Creation and command belong to Him. The One who created is the One who commands, judges, provides, gives life, takes life, and returns creation to Him.

Sequence Careful reading

The Qur’anic sequence in Surah Fussilat

  • Surah Fussilat gives important details. It mentions the creation of the earth, the placing of firm mountains, blessings and sustenance, then Allah turning to the heaven when it was smoke.
  • The earth is mentioned in two days. The verse says Allah created the earth in two days and warns people not to set up equals with Him.
  • Its provisions are mentioned in four days. The wording does not mean two plus four plus two equals eight. The four includes what came before, so the total remains six.
  • The heaven is described as smoke. Allah then commanded the heaven and the earth to come willingly or unwillingly, and they submitted to His command.
  • The heaven was made into seven heavens. Allah assigned to each heaven its command, and He adorned the lowest heaven with lamps.
  • Do not force the verses into a modern science chart. We believe the verse, learn the message, and avoid claiming details that Allah did not state.

  • Qur’an 41:9-12: These verses mention the earth, its sustenance, the heaven when it was smoke, the command to the heaven and earth, and the seven heavens.
  • Qur’an 2:29: Allah created for people what is on the earth, then turned to the heaven and formed them as seven heavens.
  • Qur’an 65:12: Allah created seven heavens and of the earth the like of them, and His command descends among them.
Seven Heavens Unseen limit

What we know about the seven heavens

  • Allah created seven heavens. This is a matter of belief because Allah mentioned it clearly.
  • The lowest heaven is adorned with lamps. The Qur’an mentions the nearest heaven being adorned, and the stars topic will be covered in its own page later.
  • The heavens are not gods or independent realms. They are created, controlled, commanded, and known fully by Allah.
  • We do not draw maps of the unseen heavens. The seven heavens are real, but their full reality is not something people can diagram from imagination.
  • The Mi‘raj narrations mention Prophets in different heavens. This proves the reality of the heavens, but it should not be mixed with invented charts of Paradise levels.
  • Allah holds and preserves His creation. The Qur’an points to the sky above, its structure, and the way Allah holds creation by His command.

  • Qur’an 67:3: Allah created seven heavens in layers, and no flaw will be seen in the creation of the Most Merciful.
  • Qur’an 41:12: Allah formed the heaven into seven heavens and adorned the nearest heaven with lamps and protection.
  • Sahih al-Bukhari 349 and Sahih Muslim 164a: The Mi‘raj narrations mention Prophet Muhammad ﷺ meeting Prophets in the heavens.
Earth Home and test

The earth as a place of mercy, provision, and test

  • The earth was made suitable for human life. It contains paths, land, sea, crops, water, animals, shade, homes, and countless benefits.
  • The earth is not just scenery. It is the place where people worship Allah, earn deeds, receive provision, face trials, and prepare for the Hereafter.
  • Allah placed stability and benefit in it. The Qur’an mentions mountains, rivers, roads, and signs spread throughout the earth.
  • The earth teaches resurrection. Allah revives the lifeless land with rain, and this teaches that bringing creation back is easy for Him.
  • The earth will testify. A believer should not treat the earth as a silent stage where sins vanish. Allah knows everything, and the Day of Return is real.

  • Qur’an 16:15-16: Allah placed firm mountains, rivers, roads, and landmarks for guidance.
  • Qur’an 78:6-16: Allah mentions the earth as a resting place, mountains, night, day, rain, grain, plants, and gardens.
  • Qur’an 99:4-5: The earth will report its news because Allah inspired it.
Together Joined and split

The heavens and earth were joined, then Allah split them apart

  • The Qur’an invites people to reflect. Allah says the heavens and the earth were once joined, then He split them apart.
  • The verse also mentions water and life. Allah made every living thing from water, then asks whether people will believe.
  • This is a sign, not a slogan. The verse should increase faith, humility, and worship, not become a quick internet argument used without knowledge.
  • We can notice harmony with knowledge, but we should not overclaim. Do not say every modern theory is directly named in the verse unless the wording clearly supports it.
  • The safest lesson is clear. Allah began creation, separated what He willed, brought life through water, and called people to believe.

  • Qur’an 21:30: Allah says the heavens and the earth were joined, then He split them apart, and He made every living thing from water.

  • Qur’an 25:54: Allah created the human being from water and made family ties.
Purpose Not created in vain

The heavens and the earth were created with truth

  • Allah did not create them for play. The Qur’an rejects the idea that the heavens, earth, and what is between them are meaningless.
  • They were created with truth and wisdom. Creation has purpose, order, justice, signs, tests, and a final return to Allah.
  • This world is not the final home. The creation around us is full of signs that point to accountability and resurrection.
  • Reflection should lead to dua. The people of understanding reflect and say that Allah did not create this in vain, then ask protection from the Fire.
  • Every sign should move the heart. The goal is not just to admire clouds, mountains, or space. The goal is to know Allah, worship Him, and return to Him clean.

  • Qur’an 21:16: Allah did not create the heaven, the earth, and what is between them for play.

  • Qur’an 3:191: The believers say, “Our Lord, You did not create this in vain. Glory be to You. Protect us from the punishment of the Fire.”
Reflection How to look

How a believer should reflect on the heavens and the earth

  • Look with humility. The sky is not just above the eyes. It should lower the ego.
  • Look with gratitude. The earth carries us, feeds us, shelters us, and shows Allah’s mercy every day.
  • Look with fear of accountability. The One who created all this can bring every soul back and judge every hidden deed.
  • Look without superstition. Do not turn the sky, eclipses, storms, or stars into omens outside revelation.
  • Look without arrogance. Knowledge of creation should never make a person forget the Creator.
  • Look like the Prophet ﷺ taught. Authentic narrations mention that he recited the last verses of Surah Ali ‘Imran when he woke at night, verses that call people to reflect on creation.

  • Qur’an 3:190-200: These verses connect reflection on creation with remembrance, dua, hope, fear, patience, and seeking Allah’s mercy.

  • Qur’an 51:20-21: On the earth and within yourselves are signs for those with certainty.
Duas Reflection to worship

Duas and words of reflection

When reflecting on creation

رَبَّنَا مَا خَلَقْتَ هَٰذَا بَاطِلًا سُبْحَانَكَ فَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ

Transliteration: Rabbana ma khalaqta hadha batilan, subhanaka faqina ‘adhaban-nar.

Meaning: Our Lord, You did not create this in vain. Glory be to You. Protect us from the punishment of the Fire.

When: When reflecting on the heavens, earth, night, day, and Allah’s signs in creation.

Source: Qur’an 3:191.

Ask for useful knowledge

رَبِّ زِدْنِي عِلْمًا

Transliteration: Rabbi zidni ‘ilma.

Meaning: My Lord, increase me in knowledge.

When: When learning Qur’an, studying creation, and asking Allah to make knowledge a path to humility.

Source: Qur’an 20:114.

Teaching point: Reflection is not meant to end at amazement. It should become glorification, gratitude, repentance, and obedience.
Wrong Claims Keep it safe

Wrong claims people make about this topic

  • Claim: “The Qur’an says creation took eight days.” This comes from misreading Surah Fussilat. The four days include the first two, so the total is six.
  • Claim: “Allah rested after creating.” False. The Qur’an says no weariness touched Allah.
  • Claim: “Seven heavens means seven planets.” Do not teach this as fact. The Qur’an says seven heavens, and we stop where revelation stops.
  • Claim: “Every modern scientific theory is directly written in these verses.” Avoid forcing the Qur’an into changing scientific models. The Qur’an is guidance from Allah.
  • Claim: “Science makes reflection unnecessary.” False. Studying creation should increase humility before the Creator, not remove Him from the heart.
  • Claim: “Nature controls itself.” Creation has patterns, but patterns are under Allah’s command and permission.
  • Claim: “We can imagine the full unseen structure of the heavens.” No. We believe what revelation says and avoid decorating the unseen with guesses.
Lessons For the heart

What this sign should teach us

  • Allah is the Creator. Everything above, below, and between the heavens and earth belongs to Him.
  • Creation is purposeful. The world is not an accident, a toy, or a meaningless theatre.
  • Allah is powerful over resurrection. The One who created the heavens and earth can bring creation back again.
  • Knowledge should produce humility. The more a person learns about the universe, the more they should say, “SubhanAllah.”
  • Do not worship creation. Admire the sky, benefit from the earth, but worship Allah alone.
  • Move to the next signs with a soft heart. After the heavens and earth, the next topic looks at the sun, moon, night, and day as signs that move before our eyes every day.

ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّٰهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ

All praise is for Allah, Lord of all worlds.
