Natloo ‘alaika min naba-i Moosaa wa Fir’awna bilhaqqi liqawminy yu’miinoon
We recite to you from the news of Moses and Pharaoh in truth for a people who believe.

إِنَّ فِرۡعَوۡنَ عَلَا فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَجَعَلَ أَهۡلَهَا شِيَعٗا يَسۡتَضۡعِفُ طَآئِفَةٗ مِّنۡهُمۡ يُذَبِّحُ أَبۡنَآءَهُمۡ وَيَسۡتَحۡيِۦ نِسَآءَهُمۡۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُفۡسِدِينَ ٤
Inna Fir’awna ‘alaa fil ardi wa ja’ala ahlahaa shiya’an yastad’ifu taaa’ifatam minhum yuzabbihu abnaaa’ahum wa yastahyee nisaaa’ahum; innahoo kaana minal mufsideen
Indeed, Pharaoh exalted himself in the land and made its people into factions, oppressing a group among them, slaughtering their sons and keeping their women alive. Indeed, he was of the corrupters.

Simple Explanation

وَنُرِيدُ أَن نَّمُنَّ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ ٱسۡتُضۡعِفُواْ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَنَجۡعَلَهُمۡ أَئِمَّةٗ وَنَجۡعَلَهُمُ ٱلۡوَٰرِثِينَ ٥
Wa nureedu an namunna ‘alal lazeenas tud’ifoo fil ardi wa naj’alahum a’immatanw wa naj’alahumul waariseen
And We wanted to confer favor upon those who were oppressed in the land and make them leaders and make them inheritors.

وَنُمَكِّنَ لَهُمۡ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَنُرِيَ فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَهَٰمَٰنَ وَجُنُودَهُمَا مِنۡهُم مَّا كَانُواْ يَحۡذَرُونَ ٦
Wa numakkina lahum fil ardi wa nuriya Fir’awna wa Haamaana wa junoodahumaa minhum maa kaanoo yahzaroon
And establish them in the land and show Pharaoh, Haman, and their soldiers through them that which they had feared.

وَأَوۡحَيۡنَآ إِلَىٰٓ أُمِّ مُوسَىٰٓ أَنۡ أَرۡضِعِيهِۖ فَإِذَا خِفۡتِ عَلَيۡهِ فَأَلۡقِيهِ فِي ٱلۡيَمِّ وَلَا تَخَافِي وَلَا تَحۡزَنِيٓۖ إِنَّا رَآدُّوهُ إِلَيۡكِ وَجَاعِلُوهُ مِنَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِينَ ٧
Wa awhainaaa ilaaa ummi Moosaaa an ardi’eehi faizaa khifti ‘alaihi fa alqeehi filyammi wa laa takhaafee wa laa tahzaneee innaa raaaddoohu ilaiki wa jaa’iloohu minal mursaleen
And We inspired the mother of Moses, “Suckle him. But when you fear for him, cast him into the river and do not fear and do not grieve. Indeed, We will return him to you and make him one of the messengers.”

Simple Explanation

Faltaqatahooo Aalu Fir’awna li yakoona lahum ‘aduwwanw wa hazanaa; inna Fir’awna wa Haamaana wa junoodahumaa kaanoo khaati’een
And the family of Pharaoh picked him up so that he would become an enemy and a grief for them. Indeed, Pharaoh, Haman, and their soldiers were sinners.

Wa qaalatimra atu Fir’awna qurratu ‘aynil lee wa lak; laa taqtuloohu ‘asaaa aiyanfa’anaa aw nattakhizahoo waladanw wa hum laa yash’uroon
And the wife of Pharaoh said, “He will be a comfort of the eye for me and for you. Do not kill him; perhaps he may benefit us, or we may adopt him as a son.” And they did not perceive.

Simple Explanation
Allah placed mercy in the heart of Pharaoh’s wife. Her words became a means of protecting Musa عليه السلام inside the house of the very ruler who wanted boys killed.

وَأَصۡبَحَ فُؤَادُ أُمِّ مُوسَىٰ فَٰرِغًاۖ إِن كَادَتۡ لَتُبۡدِي بِهِۦ لَوۡلَآ أَن رَّبَطۡنَا عَلَىٰ قَلۡبِهَا لِتَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ ١٠
Wa asbaha fu’aadu ummi Moosaa faarighan in kaadat latubdee bihee law laaa arrabatnaa ‘alaa qalbihaa litakoona minal mu’mineen
And the heart of Moses’ mother became empty. She was about to disclose him, had We not strengthened her heart so that she would be of the believers.

Wa qaalat li ukhtihee qusseehi fabasurat bihee ‘an junubinw wahum laa yash’uroon
And she said to his sister, “Follow him.” So she watched him from a distance while they did not perceive.

۞وَحَرَّمۡنَا عَلَيۡهِ ٱلۡمَرَاضِعَ مِن قَبۡلُ فَقَالَتۡ هَلۡ أَدُلُّكُمۡ عَلَىٰٓ أَهۡلِ بَيۡتٖ يَكۡفُلُونَهُۥ لَكُمۡ وَهُمۡ لَهُۥ نَٰصِحُونَ ١٢
Wa harramnaa ‘alaihil maraadi’a min qablu faqaalat hal adullukum ‘alaaa ahli baitiny yakfuloonahoo lakum wa hum lahoo naasihoon
And We had prevented him from accepting wet nurses before, so she said, “Shall I direct you to a household that will care for him for you and be sincere toward him?”

Simple Explanation
Allah made Musa عليه السلام refuse every other nurse. What looked like a problem in the palace was actually the doorway back to his mother.

فَرَدَدۡنَٰهُ إِلَىٰٓ أُمِّهِۦ كَيۡ تَقَرَّ عَيۡنُهَا وَلَا تَحۡزَنَ وَلِتَعۡلَمَ أَنَّ وَعۡدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقّٞ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَهُمۡ لَا يَعۡلَمُونَ ١٣
Faradadnaahu ilaa ummihee kai taqarra ‘ainuhaa wa laa tahzana wa lita’lama anna wa’dal laahi haqqunw wa laakinna aksarahum laa ya’lamoon
So We restored him to his mother so that her eye might be comforted, that she would not grieve, and that she would know that the promise of Allah is true. But most of the people do not know.

Wa lammaa balagha ashuddahoo wastawaaa aatainaahu hukmanw wa ‘ilmaa; wa kazaalika najzil muhsineen
And when he attained his full strength and was mature, We gave him judgement and knowledge. And thus do We reward the doers of good.

وَدَخَلَ ٱلۡمَدِينَةَ عَلَىٰ حِينِ غَفۡلَةٖ مِّنۡ أَهۡلِهَا فَوَجَدَ فِيهَا رَجُلَيۡنِ يَقۡتَتِلَانِ هَٰذَا مِن شِيعَتِهِۦ وَهَٰذَا مِنۡ عَدُوِّهِۦۖ فَٱسۡتَغَٰثَهُ ٱلَّذِي مِن شِيعَتِهِۦ عَلَى ٱلَّذِي مِنۡ عَدُوِّهِۦ فَوَكَزَهُۥ مُوسَىٰ فَقَضَىٰ عَلَيۡهِۖ قَالَ هَٰذَا مِنۡ عَمَلِ ٱلشَّيۡطَٰنِۖ إِنَّهُۥ عَدُوّٞ مُّضِلّٞ مُّبِينٞ ١٥
Wa dakhalal madeenata ‘alaa heene ghaflatim min ahlihaa fawajada feeha rajulaini yaqtatilaani haazaa min shee’atihee wa haaza min ‘aduwwihee fastaghaasahul lazee min shee’atihee ‘alal lazee min ‘aduwwihee fawakazahoo Moosaa faqadaa ‘alaihi qaala haaza min ‘amalish Shaitaani innahoo ‘aduwwum mudillum mubeen
And he entered the city at a time when its people were unaware and found two men fighting: one from his group and the other from his enemy. The one from his group asked him for help against the one from his enemy, so Moses struck him and killed him. He said, “This is from the work of Satan. Indeed, he is a clear misleading enemy.”

Simple Explanation
Musa عليه السلام tried to help someone from his people, but the situation ended in an unintended killing. He immediately recognized that Shaytan pushes people toward actions with terrible consequences.

قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّى ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِى فَٱغْفِرْ لِى فَغَفَرَ لَهُۥٓ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلْغَفُورُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ ١٦
Qala rabbi inni zalamtu nafsi faghfir li faghafara lahu, innahu huwal-Ghafurur-Rahim.
He said, “My Lord, I have wronged myself, so forgive me.” So Allah forgave him. Surely, He is the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful.

Simple Explanation
Musa عليه السلام immediately turned to Allah after realizing the seriousness of what had happened. He did not defend himself proudly or blame others. He admitted his mistake and asked Allah for forgiveness.
Allah accepted his repentance and forgave him. This shows that when a servant sincerely turns back to Allah, Allah’s mercy is near.
The ayah teaches that true strength is not pretending to be perfect. True strength is to return to Allah quickly when the heart realizes its error.

قَالَ رَبِّ بِمَآ أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَىَّ فَلَنْ أَكُونَ ظَهِيرًۭا لِّلْمُجْرِمِينَ ١٧
Qala rabbi bima an‘amta ‘alayya falan akuna zahiral-lil-mujrimin.
He said, “My Lord, because of the favour You have given me, I will never be a supporter of the criminals.”

Fa-asbaha fil-madinati kha’ifay-yataraqqabu fa-izal-ladhi istansarahu bil-amsi yastasrikhuh, qala lahu Musa innaka laghawiyyum-mubin.

Falamma an arada ay-yabtisha billadhi huwa ‘aduwwul-lahuma qala ya Musa aturidu an taqtulani kama qatalt nafsam-bil-ams, in turidu illa an takuna jabbaran fil-ardi wa ma turidu an takuna minal-muslihin.
When Musa was about to seize the enemy of them both, the man said, “O Musa, do you want to kill me as you killed a person yesterday? You only want to be a tyrant in the land, and you do not want to be among those who make peace.”

Wa lamma warada ma’a Madyana wajada ‘alayhi ummatam-minan-nasi yasqun, wa wajada min dunihim imra’atayni tadhudan, qala ma khatbukuma, qalata la nasqi hatta yusdirar-ri‘a’u wa abuna shaykhun kabir.

Faja’at-hu ihdahuma tamshi ‘alastihya’in qalat inna abi yad‘uka liyajziyaka ajra ma saqayta lana, falamma ja’ahu wa qassa ‘alayhil-qasasa qala la takhaf najawta minal-qawmiz-zalimin.
Then one of the two women came to him, walking with modesty. She said, “My father is calling you so he may reward you for watering for us.” When Musa came to him and told him the story, he said, “Do not fear. You have escaped from the wrongdoing people.”

قَالَ إِنِّىٓ أُرِيدُ أَنْ أُنكِحَكَ إِحْدَى ٱبْنَتَىَّ هَـٰتَيْنِ عَلَىٰٓ أَن تَأْجُرَنِى ثَمَـٰنِىَ حِجَجٍۢ ۖ فَإِنْ أَتْمَمْتَ عَشْرًۭا فَمِنْ عِندِكَ ۖ وَمَآ أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَيْكَ ۚ سَتَجِدُنِىٓ إِن شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ ٢٧
Qala inni uridu an unkihaka ihda ibnatayya hatayni ‘ala an ta’jurani thamaniya hijaj, fa-in atmamta ‘ashran famin ‘indik, wa ma uridu an ashuqqa ‘alayk, satajiduni in sha’ Allahu minas-salihin.
He said, “I wish to marry one of my two daughters to you, on the condition that you work for me for eight years. If you complete ten, that will be from you. I do not want to make things difficult for you. Allah willing, you will find me among the righteous.”

Musa said, “That is settled between me and you. Whichever of the two terms I complete, there should be no blame against me. And Allah is a Guardian over what we say.”

۞ فَلَمَّا قَضَىٰ مُوسَى ٱلْأَجَلَ وَسَارَ بِأَهْلِهِۦٓ ءَانَسَ مِن جَانِبِ ٱلطُّورِ نَارًۭا قَالَ لِأَهْلِهِ ٱمْكُثُوٓا۟ إِنِّىٓ ءَانَسْتُ نَارًۭا لَّعَلِّىٓ ءَاتِيكُم مِّنْهَا بِخَبَرٍ أَوْ جَذْوَةٍۢ مِّنَ ٱلنَّارِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَصْطَلُونَ ٢٩
Falamma qada Musal-ajala wa sara bi ahlihi anasa min janibit-turi nara, qala li ahlihim-kuthu inni anastu naral-la‘alli atikum minha bikhabarin aw jadhwatim-minan-nari la‘allakum tastalun.
When Musa had completed the term and travelled with his family, he noticed a fire from the side of Mount Tur. He said to his family, “Stay here. I have noticed a fire. Perhaps I can bring you some news from it, or a burning torch from the fire, so that you may warm yourselves.”

Falamma ataha nudiya min shati’il-wadil-aymani fil-buq‘atil-mubarakati minash-shajarati ay-ya Musa inni ana Allahu Rabbul-‘alamin.
When he came to it, he was called from the right side of the valley, in the blessed place, from the tree: “O Musa, surely I am Allah, the Lord of all worlds.”

Wa an alqi ‘asak, falamma ra’aha tahtazzu ka-annaha jannun walla mudbiran wa lam yu‘aqqib. Ya Musa aqbil wa la takhaf, innaka minal-aminin.
And throw down your staff. When Musa saw it moving as if it were a snake, he turned and fled without looking back. Allah said, ‘O Musa, come forward and do not fear. Surely, you are among those who are safe.’

ٱسْلُكْ يَدَكَ فِى جَيْبِكَ تَخْرُجْ بَيْضَآءَ مِنْ غَيْرِ سُوٓءٍۢ وَٱضْمُمْ إِلَيْكَ جَنَاحَكَ مِنَ ٱلرَّهْبِ ۖ فَذَٰنِكَ بُرْهَـٰنَانِ مِن رَّبِّكَ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ وَمَلَإِي۟هِۦٓ ۚ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ قَوْمًۭا فَـٰسِقِينَ ٣٢
Usluk yadaka fi jaybika takhruj bayda’a min ghayri su’in wadmum ilayka janahaka minar-rahb. Fadhanika burhanani mir-rabbika ila Fir‘awna wa mala’ihi, innahum kanu qawman fasiqin.
Put your hand into your collar; it will come out white without any harm. And draw your arm close to yourself against fear. These are two proofs from your Lord to Pharaoh and his chiefs. Surely, they were a rebellious people.

Wa qala Fir‘awnu ya ayyuhal-mala’u ma ‘alimtu lakum min ilahin ghayri fa-awqid li ya Hamanu ‘alat-tini faj‘al li sarhan la‘alli attali‘u ila ilahi Musa wa inni la-azunnuhu minal-kadhibin.
Pharaoh said, ‘O chiefs, I do not know of any god for you other than me. So bake clay for me, O Haman, and build me a tower so that I may look at the God of Musa, though I surely think he is among the liars.’

Wastakbara huwa wa junuduhu fil-ardi bighayril-haqqi wa zannu annahum ilayna la yurja‘un.
He and his soldiers behaved arrogantly in the land without right, and they thought that they would not be returned to Us.

Fa-akhadhnahu wa junudahu fanabadhnahum fil-yamm, fandhur kayfa kana ‘aqibatuz-zalimin.
So We seized him and his soldiers and cast them into the sea. Look, then, how was the end of the wrongdoers.

The sea swallowed the arrogance that once claimed lordship.
Say in your heart: Ya Allah, protect me from ظلم and from supporting ظلم.
وَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمْ أَئِمَّةًۭ يَدْعُونَ إِلَى ٱلنَّارِ ۖ وَيَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ لَا يُنصَرُونَ ٤١
Wa ja‘alnahum a’immatan yad‘una ilan-nar, wa yawmal-qiyamati la yunsarun.
And We made them leaders calling to the Fire, and on the Day of Resurrection they will not be helped.

Wa atba‘nahum fi hadhihid-dunya la‘nah, wa yawmal-qiyamati hum minal-maqbuhin.
We caused a curse to follow them in this world, and on the Day of Resurrection they will be among the disgraced and rejected.

Wa lakinna ansha’na qurunan fatatawala ‘alayhimul-‘umur. Wa ma kunta thawiyan fi ahli Madyana tatlu ‘alayhim ayatina wa lakinna kunna mursilin.
But We raised generations, and long ages passed over them. You were not living among the people of Midian, reciting Our verses to them, but We were the One Who sent messengers.

And you were not at the side of Mount Tur when We called out, but this is a mercy from your Lord so you may warn a people to whom no warner had come before you, so perhaps they may remember.

And so they would not say, if an affliction struck them because of what their hands had done, ‘Our Lord, why did You not send us a messenger so we could follow Your verses and become believers?’

Falamma ja’ahumul-haqqu min ‘indina qalu lawla utiya mithla ma utiya Musa. Awa lam yakfuru bima utiya Musa min qabl? Qalu sihrani tazahara wa qalu inna bikullin kafirun.
But when the truth came to them from Us, they said, ‘Why was he not given the like of what Musa was given?’ Did they not disbelieve in what Musa was given before? They said, ‘Two works of magic supporting each other,’ and said, ‘We deny both.’

Fa-in lam yastajibu laka fa‘lam annama yattabi‘una ahwa’ahum. Wa man adallu mimmanittaba‘a hawahu bighayri hudan minallah. Innallaha la yahdil-qawmaz-zalimin.
So if they do not respond to you, then know that they only follow their desires. And who is more astray than one who follows his desire without guidance from Allah? Surely, Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people.

The Qur’an does not only enter the ear; it seeks a heart ready to submit.

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ يُؤْتَوْنَ أَجْرَهُم مَّرَّتَيْنِ بِمَا صَبَرُوا۟ وَيَدْرَءُونَ بِٱلْحَسَنَةِ ٱلسَّيِّئَةَ وَمِمَّا رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْ يُنفِقُونَ ٥٤
Ula’ika yu’tawna ajrahum marratayni bima sabaru wa yadra’una bil-hasanatis-sayyi’ata wa mimma razaqnahum yunfiqun.
Those people will be given their reward twice because they were patient, they repel evil with good, and they spend from what We have provided them.

وَإِذَا سَمِعُوا۟ ٱللَّغْوَ أَعْرَضُوا۟ عَنْهُ وَقَالُوا۟ لَنَآ أَعْمَـٰلُنَا وَلَكُمْ أَعْمَـٰلُكُمْ سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَيْكُمْ لَا نَبْتَغِى ٱلْجَـٰهِلِينَ ٥٥
Wa idha sami‘ul-laghwa a‘radu ‘anhu wa qalu lana a‘maluna wa lakum a‘malukum, salamun ‘alaykum, la nabtaghil-jahilin.
And when they hear useless or offensive talk, they turn away from it and say, ‘For us are our deeds and for you are your deeds. Peace be upon you. We do not seek the ignorant.’

Innaka la tahdi man ahbabta walakinnallaha yahdi man yasha’, wa huwa a‘lamu bil-muhtadin.
Surely, you cannot guide whom you love, but Allah guides whom He wills, and He knows best those who are guided.

Wa qalu in nattabi‘il-huda ma‘aka nutakhattaf min ardina. Awa lam numakkin lahum haraman aminan yujba ilayhi thamaratu kulli shay’in rizqan mil-ladunna, walakinna aktharahum la ya‘lamun.
They said, ‘If we follow the guidance with you, we will be snatched away from our land.’ Have We not established for them a safe sanctuary to which fruits of every kind are brought as provision from Us? But most of them do not know.

Wa kam ahlakna min qaryatin batirat ma‘ishataha, fatilka masakinuhum lam tuskan mim ba‘dihim illa qalila, wa kunna nahnul-warithin.
And how many towns We destroyed that became arrogant because of their comfortable living. There are their homes, barely inhabited after them, and We alone were the inheritors.

Wa ma kana rabbuka muhlikal-qura hatta yab‘atha fi ummiha rasulan yatlu ‘alayhim ayatina, wa ma kunna muhlikil-qura illa wa ahluha zalimun.
And your Lord would not destroy towns until He had sent a messenger to their main city reciting Our verses to them. And We would not destroy towns unless their people were wrongdoers.

Afaman wa‘adnahu wa‘dan hasanan fahuwa laqihi kaman matta‘nahu mata‘al-hayatid-dunya thumma huwa yawmal-qiyamati minal-muhdarin.
Can the one to whom We have made a beautiful promise, which he will surely meet, be like the one whom We allowed to enjoy the worldly life, then on the Day of Resurrection he will be among those brought forth for punishment?

Qalal-ladhina haqqa ‘alayhimul-qawlu rabbana ha’ula’il-ladhina aghwayna aghwaynahum kama ghawayna, tabarra’na ilayk, ma kanu iyyana ya‘budun.
Those against whom the word is justified will say, ‘Our Lord, these are the ones we led astray. We led them astray as we ourselves were astray. We disown them before You. It was not us they worshipped.’

Wa qila id‘u shuraka’akum fada‘awhum falam yastajibu lahum wa ra’awul-‘adhab, law annahum kanu yahtadun.
And it will be said, ‘Call upon your partners.’ So they will call them, but they will not respond to them, and they will see the punishment. If only they had been guided.

فَأَمَّا مَن تَابَ وَءَامَنَ وَعَمِلَ صَـٰلِحًۭا فَعَسَىٰٓ أَن يَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلْمُفْلِحِينَ ٦٧
Fa-amma man taba wa amana wa ‘amila salihan fa‘asa an yakuna minal-muflihin.
But as for the one who repents, believes, and does righteous deeds, it is hoped that he will be among the successful.

Inna Qaruna kana min qawmi Musa fabagha ‘alayhim, wa ataynahu minal-kunuzi ma inna mafatihahu latanu’u bil-‘usbati ulil-quwwah, idh qala lahu qawmuhu la tafrah, innallaha la yuhibbul-farihin.

Seek, through what Allah has given you, the home of the Hereafter, and do not forget your share of the world. Do good as Allah has done good to you, and do not seek corruption in the land. Surely Allah does not love the corrupters.

He said, ‘I was only given it because of knowledge I have.’ Did he not know that Allah had destroyed before him generations stronger than him in power and greater in accumulation? And the criminals will not be asked about their sins.

Fakharaja ‘ala qawmihi fi zinatih. Qalal-ladhina yuridunal-hayatid-dunya ya layta lana mithla ma utiya Qarun, innahu ladhu hazzin ‘azim.
So he came out before his people in his adornment. Those who desired the worldly life said, ‘If only we had like what Qarun was given. Indeed, he has a great fortune.’

Not every golden door opens to safety; some open to ruin.
وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْعِلْمَ وَيْلَكُمْ ثَوَابُ ٱللَّهِ خَيْرٌۭ لِّمَنْ ءَامَنَ وَعَمِلَ صَـٰلِحًۭا وَلَا يُلَقَّىٰهَآ إِلَّا ٱلصَّـٰبِرُونَ ٨٠
Wa qalal-ladhina utul-‘ilma waylakum thawabullahi khayrun liman amana wa ‘amila saliha, wa la yulaqqaha illas-sabirun.
But those who were given knowledge said, ‘Woe to you! The reward of Allah is better for whoever believes and does righteous deeds, and none are granted it except the patient.’

فَخَسَفْنَا بِهِۦ وَبِدَارِهِ ٱلْأَرْضَ فَمَا كَانَ لَهُۥ مِن فِئَةٍۢ يَنصُرُونَهُۥ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَمَا كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُنتَصِرِينَ ٨١
Fakhasafna bihi wa bidarihil-arda fama kana lahu min fi’atin yansurunahu min dunillahi wa ma kana minal-muntasirin.
Then We caused the earth to swallow him and his home. He had no group to help him against Allah, nor was he among those who could defend themselves.

وَأَصْبَحَ ٱلَّذِينَ تَمَنَّوْا۟ مَكَانَهُۥ بِٱلْأَمْسِ يَقُولُونَ وَيْكَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَبْسُطُ ٱلرِّزْقَ لِمَن يَشَآءُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِۦ وَيَقْدِرُ ۖ لَوْلَآ أَن مَّنَّ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْنَا لَخَسَفَ بِنَا ۖ وَيْكَأَنَّهُۥ لَا يُفْلِحُ ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ ٨٢
Wa asbahal-ladhina tamannaw makanahu bil-amsi yaquluna wayka annallaha yabsutur-rizqa liman yasha’u min ‘ibadihi wa yaqdir, lawla an mannallahu ‘alayna lakhasafa bina, wayka annahu la yuflihul-kafirun.
And those who had wished for his position the day before began saying, ‘Now we see that Allah extends provision for whom He wills of His servants and restricts it. If Allah had not favored us, He would have caused the earth to swallow us too. Now we see that the disbelievers do not succeed.’

تِلْكَ ٱلدَّارُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ نَجْعَلُهَا لِلَّذِينَ لَا يُرِيدُونَ عُلُوًّۭا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَا فَسَادًۭا ۚ وَٱلْعَـٰقِبَةُ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ ٨٣
Tilkad-darul-akhiratu naj‘aluha lilladhina la yuriduna ‘uluwwan fil-ardi wa la fasada, wal-‘aqibatu lil-muttaqin.
That home of the Hereafter We assign to those who do not desire superiority on the earth or corruption. And the best outcome is for the righteous.

Man ja’a bil-hasanati falahu khayrun minha, wa man ja’a bis-sayyi’ati fala yujzal-ladhina ‘amilus-sayyi’ati illa ma kanu ya‘malun.
Whoever comes with a good deed will have better than it, and whoever comes with an evil deed, those who did evil will only be repaid for what they used to do.

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِى فَرَضَ عَلَيْكَ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لَرَآدُّكَ إِلَىٰ مَعَادٍۢ ۚ قُل رَّبِّىٓ أَعْلَمُ مَن جَآءَ بِٱلْهُدَىٰ وَمَنْ هُوَ فِى ضَلَـٰلٍۢ مُّبِينٍۢ ٨٥
Innal-ladhi farada ‘alaykal-Qur’ana laradduka ila ma‘ad. Qul rabbi a‘lamu man ja’a bil-huda wa man huwa fi dalalin mubin.
Indeed, the One who imposed the Qur’an upon you will surely bring you back to a place of return. Say, ‘My Lord knows best who has come with guidance and who is in clear error.’

Wa ma kunta tarju an yulqa ilaykal-kitabu illa rahmatan mir-rabbik, fala takunanna zahiran lil-kafirin.
You were not expecting that the Book would be conveyed to you, but it came as a mercy from your Lord. So do not be a supporter of the disbelievers.

Wa la yasuddunnaka ‘an ayatillahi ba‘da idh unzilat ilayk, wad‘u ila rabbik, wa la takunanna minal-mushrikin.
And never let them turn you away from the verses of Allah after they have been revealed to you. Invite to your Lord, and never be among those who associate partners with Allah.

وَلَا تَدْعُ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ ۘ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۚ كُلُّ شَىْءٍ هَالِكٌ إِلَّا وَجْهَهُۥ ۚ لَهُ ٱلْحُكْمُ وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ ٨٨
Wa la tad‘u ma‘allahi ilahan akhar. La ilaha illa Huwa. Kullu shay’in halikun illa wajhah. Lahul-hukmu wa ilayhi turja‘un.
And do not invoke with Allah another deity. There is no deity except Him. Everything will perish except His Face. To Him belongs the judgment, and to Him you will be returned.
