Overview Final Messenger ﷺ

Signs Connected to the Final Messenger ﷺ

Each sign below includes the explanation and source in the same place, so the reader can understand the meaning and evidence clearly.

These signs are not for panic or date-setting. They teach the believer that the final Prophet ﷺ has already come, the final revelation has already been sent, and the Ummah must live with faith, repentance, obedience, and preparation for the Hour.

Sign 01 Appeared Beginning around 610 CE

The Sending of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ

  • Allah sent Prophet Muhammad ﷺ as the final Messenger. This itself is one of the signs of the Hour because it means the world had entered the last prophetic age. No new Prophet would come after him, and no new final scripture would replace the Qur’an.
  • The Prophet ﷺ described the Hour as near to his sending. He joined his index and middle fingers to show nearness. This does not mean anyone can calculate the date of the Hour. It means the final Messenger has already come and mankind is now living after the completion of Prophethood.
  • This sign changes how Muslims understand guidance. The believer is not waiting for a new Prophet to correct the world. The believer returns to the Qur’an, the Sunnah, repentance, Salah, justice, mercy, and obedience to Allah.

Source for this sign

  • Qur’an 33:40: Allah identifies Prophet Muhammad ﷺ as the Messenger of Allah and the Seal of the Prophets.
  • Qur’an 21:107: Allah says that He sent him as mercy for the worlds.
  • Qur’an 34:28: Allah says that he was sent to mankind as a bringer of glad tidings and a warner.
  • Sahih al-Bukhari 4936 and Sahih al-Bukhari 6504: The Prophet ﷺ described his sending and the Hour as close, using the example of two fingers.
Sign 02 Appeared Makkan period before Hijrah

The Splitting of the Moon

  • The splitting of the moon was a real miracle. It was shown during the lifetime of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The Qur’an says the Hour drew near and the moon split, and authentic hadith narrations explain that the people of Makkah saw this sign.
  • This does not mean the Hour began at that moment. It means Allah showed a great sign proving His power and supporting His Messenger ﷺ. It also showed that the Hour had drawn nearer because the final Messenger had already come.
  • The rejecters still turned away. The Qur’an tells us that when they saw a mighty sign, they called it magic. This teaches that miracles benefit humble hearts, while arrogance can look at a clear sign and still refuse to submit.
  • The safest wording is that it happened before the Hijrah. Scholars mention it under the miracles of the Prophet ﷺ and under the signs of the Hour, but the exact year is not fixed by one clear authentic report.

Source for this sign

  • Qur’an 54:1: Allah says that the Hour drew near and the moon split.
  • Qur’an 54:2: Allah mentions that when the rejecters see a sign, they turn away and call it continuing magic.
  • Sahih al-Bukhari, hadiths in the Tafsir of Surah al-Qamar, including 4864 to 4867: These narrations report the splitting of the moon during the lifetime of the Prophet ﷺ and the people seeing it.
  • Sahih Muslim 2800: Authentic narration confirming the splitting of the moon during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
Sign 03 Appeared 11 AH / 632 CE

The Prophet ﷺ Returning to Allah

  • The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ returning to Allah was counted among the signs before the Hour. The Messenger ﷺ had completed the message, conveyed the trust, taught the Qur’an, purified the believers, and left the Ummah upon clear guidance.
  • Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه reminded the Ummah of tawhid. He said that whoever worshipped Muhammad ﷺ should know that Muhammad ﷺ had returned to Allah, and whoever worships Allah should know that Allah is Ever-Living and does not die. He then recited Qur’an 3:144.
  • This sign teaches firmness during trials. Love for the Prophet ﷺ must become obedience to Allah, loyalty to the Qur’an, preservation of the Sunnah, and steadiness when the Ummah is shaken.

Source for this sign

  • Sahih al-Bukhari 3176: In the narration of ‘Awf ibn Malik رضي الله عنه, the Prophet ﷺ told him to count six things before the Hour, and the first mentioned was his own return to Allah.
  • Qur’an 3:144: Allah says that Muhammad ﷺ is only a Messenger and that Messengers before him had gone before him; the verse teaches believers not to turn back if the Messenger ﷺ is no longer among them.
  • Sahih al-Bukhari 4454 and related reports: Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه recited Qur’an 3:144 and reminded the people to worship Allah alone, the Ever-Living.
Meaning For the Ummah

What these signs teach

  • The final message has already reached mankind. After the sending of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, humanity cannot claim that it is waiting for another final Prophet or another final book. The Qur’an and Sunnah are the guidance until the Hour.
  • The splitting of the moon shows Allah’s complete power. Allah controls the heavens and the earth. If He wills, He can split the moon, gather it, raise the dead, and bring the Hour at its appointed time.
  • Seeing signs is not enough without humility. The Qur’an shows that some people saw a great sign and still rejected it. The heart must be willing to submit, not only demand proof.
  • The Prophet ﷺ returning to Allah tested the believers. The Ummah learned that worship belongs only to Allah. The Prophet ﷺ is loved, followed, obeyed, and honoured, but Allah alone is worshipped.
Main learning point: The final Messenger ﷺ has come, the final revelation has been delivered, and the Ummah must prepare for the Hour through tawhid, repentance, Salah, obedience, good character, and following the Sunnah.
Lessons For believers

Lessons for believers

  • Hold firmly to final revelation. Since Prophethood has ended, guidance is sought from the Qur’an and authentic Sunnah, not from invented claims.
  • Do not delay repentance. The sending of the final Messenger ﷺ reminds us that the world is moving toward its appointed end.
  • Respond to signs with humility. The splitting of the moon shows that signs benefit those who are sincere, not those who only argue.
  • Love the Prophet ﷺ by following him. True love is shown through obedience, character, Salah, Sunnah, and loyalty to his message.
  • Worship Allah alone. The believers were taught that Allah is Ever-Living, and that Islam remains firm after the Messenger ﷺ returned to Allah.
