Book of Deeds & Accountability
On the Day of Judgment, every person will face their record. Words, deeds, intentions, rights, money, worship, private sins, hidden charity, and treatment of people will be brought into perfect account. This page explains the Book of Deeds, receiving the record, accountability before Allah, people’s rights, witnesses, and how to prepare before the book is opened.
Nothing is lost with Allah
Allah’s record is not like human memory. People forget, documents get lost, files are deleted, witnesses die, and lies can hide truth in this world. But Allah knows every open and hidden deed. Accountability is real, precise, just, and surrounded by Allah’s perfect knowledge and mercy.
The Book of Deeds
The record of deeds will be brought forward. Every person will see what they sent ahead.
The record will be placed
Wa wudi'al-kitabu fatara al-mujrimina mushfiqina mimma fih.
The Book will be placed, and you will see the criminals fearful of what is in it. Source: Quran 18:49, relevant part.
The record will not be vague. People will recognise their actions. The one who lived carelessly will be shaken by the accuracy of what is written.
Before the Book is placed there, open your own account here: what must I repent from, return, repair, and increase?
It leaves nothing small or great
What is with this Book? It leaves nothing small or great except that it has recorded it. Source: Quran 18:49, relevant part.
The small insult, hidden charity, private repentance, fake invoice, sincere tear, unpaid wage, secret prayer, and whispered lie are not missing. The Book is exact by Allah’s command.
Do not belittle small good deeds. Do not treat small sins as harmless. A small seed can become a forest on the Day of Judgment.
Read your own record
Iqra kitabak, kafa binafsikal-yawma 'alayka hasiba.
Read your book. Sufficient is yourself against you this Day as accountant. Source: Quran 17:14.
The person will not need another accuser to know the truth. The record will be enough. The self will recognise what it did.
Read your life before you are told to read your book. Daily self-accounting is mercy before final accounting.
The Book is written while life is still moving
Every day adds lines. Some lines glow with prayer, mercy, charity, patience, honesty, and repentance. Other lines are heavy with arrogance, harm, lies, haram money, backbiting, and neglected rights. The pen of angels records, but tawbah can erase and transform by Allah’s mercy.
Receiving the record
The Qur’an describes people receiving their records in different ways, with joy or terror.
The one given the record in the right hand
Fa amma man utiya kitabahu biyaminihi fayaqulu ha'umu iqra'u kitabiyah.
As for the one given his record in his right hand, he will say: Here, read my record. Source: Quran 69:19.
This is the joy of the one whom Allah honours. The record is not a scandal for him, but a sign of salvation and mercy.
Ask Allah for an easy account and a record in the right hand. Live with faith, repentance, sincerity, and justice.
The one given the record in the left hand
Wa amma man utiya kitabahu bishimalihi fayaqulu ya laytani lam uta kitabiyah.
As for the one given his record in his left hand, he will say: I wish I had not been given my record. Source: Quran 69:25.
The regret is not over being exposed only. It is over wasting the life, rejecting truth, harming others, and standing with a record that cannot be denied.
Do not wait for regret to become permanent. Repent now, repair rights now, and ask Allah to protect you from disgrace on that Day.
The easy account
As for the one given his record in his right hand, he will be judged with an easy account and return to his people joyful. Source: Quran 84:7-9, meaning summarized.
The Prophet ﷺ explained that whoever is questioned in detail will be punished, and the easy account is when deeds are presented. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 6536; Sahih Muslim 2876, meaning summarized.
Ask Allah for an easy account. Do not rely on your deeds as if you deserve Paradise. Rely on Allah’s mercy while doing your best.
Do not become proud of good deeds
A believer does good, but does not become arrogant. Deeds are accepted by Allah’s mercy. Many people may have outward deeds but hidden pride, showing off, oppression, or unpaid rights. Ask Allah for acceptance, not only action.
- Do good sincerely.
- Hide some deeds from people.
- Ask Allah to accept.
- Repent after good deeds too.
- Do not look down on sinners.
- Do not trust your own record blindly.
What will be asked?
Accountability includes worship, time, wealth, knowledge, body, tongue, family, and people’s rights.
The first deed to be judged
The first deed for which a person will be brought to account on the Day of Resurrection is prayer. Source: Jami at-Tirmidhi 413; Sunan Abi Dawud 864, meaning summarized.
Guard Salah / Namaz, learn it properly, pray on time, and return to it immediately if you have been neglectful.
Life, youth, wealth, and knowledge
The servant’s feet will not move on the Day of Resurrection until he is asked about his life and how he spent it, his knowledge and what he did with it, his wealth and how he earned and spent it, and his body and how he used it. Source: Jami at-Tirmidhi 2417, meaning summarized.
Use time well, act upon knowledge, earn halal, spend responsibly, protect the body from haram, and do not waste youth in heedlessness.
People’s rights can bankrupt a person
The Prophet ﷺ described the bankrupt person as one who comes with prayer, fasting, and zakat, but had insulted, slandered, consumed wealth, shed blood, or beaten others. His good deeds are taken for those he wronged, and if his deeds run out, their sins are placed upon him. Source: Sahih Muslim 2581, meaning summarized.
Do not comfort yourself with worship while harming people. Return rights, apologise, stop oppression, and repair what can be repaired.
Words will matter
The tongue writes quickly: truth, lies, gossip, slander, dua, Qur’an, kindness, humiliation, mockery, and false promises.
- Stop backbiting.
- Do not spread screenshots to humiliate people.
- Do not lie in business or family matters.
- Do not make false promises.
- Use the tongue for dhikr, Qur’an, truth, and reconciliation.
Family rights will matter
Being family does not make oppression halal. Parents, children, spouses, siblings, in-laws, and relatives all have rights and limits.
- Do not abuse spouse or children.
- Do not steal inheritance.
- Do not force marriage.
- Do not manipulate with religious language.
- Keep ties without supporting injustice.
Business and income will matter
Money is not only a bank balance. It carries questions: how was it earned, whose right was inside it, and where did it go?
- Leave riba and fraud.
- Do not cheat customers.
- Pay workers and suppliers.
- Keep contracts clear.
- Pay zakat correctly.
- Do not sell haram as “smart business”.
Witnesses on the Day of Judgment
Allah does not need witnesses, but He will make witnesses appear as proof of perfect justice.
The body will testify
Al-yawma nakhtimu 'ala afwahihim wa tukallimuna aydihim wa tashhadu arjuluhum bima kanu yaksibun.
Today We seal their mouths, and their hands will speak to Us, and their feet will testify about what they used to earn. Source: Quran 36:65.
The same hands that typed, took, touched, gave, hit, helped, and worshipped will testify. The same feet that walked to prayer or sin will testify.
Use your body in ways you would not be ashamed to hear it mention before Allah.
The skin will testify
Their hearing, sight, and skins will testify against them about what they used to do. They will ask their skins why they testified, and the answer will be that Allah made everything speak. Source: Quran 41:20-21, meaning summarized.
A person may hide from people, delete messages, close doors, and rewrite stories, but cannot hide from Allah or from the body used in those deeds.
Guard the eyes, ears, hands, feet, body, and private habits. Make the body a witness for you, not against you.
The earth will report its news
Yawma'idhin tuhaddithu akhbaraha.
That Day, it will report its news. Source: Quran 99:4.
The places where you prayed, lied, helped, cheated, cried, gave charity, or oppressed are not meaningless. Allah can make the earth witness what happened on it.
Create places on earth that will testify for you: a prayer spot, a masjid path, a charity visit, a place of reconciliation, a place of learning.
The final court has no hidden corner
In worldly courts, people may win through power, money, fear, missing evidence, or clever speech. Before Allah, the body, earth, angels, records, and Allah’s perfect knowledge remove every mask. This is terrifying for oppressors and comforting for the oppressed.

Duas for an easy account and a clean record
Make dua with humility, and take action before the account begins.
Dua for an easy account
Allahumma hasibni hisaban yasira.
O Allah, call me to account with an easy account. Source: Musnad Ahmad 24215, meaning; reported from the dua of the Prophet ﷺ.
Read often when remembering the Day of Judgment, and ask Allah to cover, forgive, and make the account easy.
Dua for completed light and forgiveness

Rabbana zalamna anfusana wa in lam taghfir lana wa tarhamna lanakunanna minal-khasirin.

Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanah wa fil-akhirati hasanah wa qina 'adhaban-nar.
Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire. Source: Quran 2:201.
Write tomorrow’s record better than yesterday’s
The Book of Deeds is being written, but you are still alive. That means the page can change by Allah’s mercy: repent, pray, return rights, pay debts, clean your income, guard your tongue, give sadaqah, repair family harm, and ask Allah for an easy account. The happiest record is not the one with no mistakes. It is the one washed with sincere tawbah and filled with accepted good deeds.
