He sends down water from the sky, and valleys flow according to their measure. The flood carries rising foam. From what they heat in fire to make ornaments or useful items comes foam like it. Breaking ties and corrupting the earth are not small matters. They lead to Allah’s curse and a terrible ending.

Pause and Speak to Allah
When the heart breaks Allah’s covenant, it begins cutting the ropes that were meant to save it.
Say in your heart: Ya Allah, protect me from breaking what You commanded me to honour.

| مَتَـٰعٌۭ | Mata‘ | Temporary enjoyment. |

Even if there were a Quran by which mountains could be moved, or the earth could be split, or the dead could be spoken to, the command belongs entirely to Allah. Have the believers not realized that if Allah had willed, He could have guided all people? Those who disbelieve will continue to be struck by disaster because of what they have done, or it will settle near their homes, until Allah’s promise comes. Indeed, Allah does not fail in His promise.

|---|---|---|
| قُرْءَانًۭا | Qur’anan | A Quran / recitation. |

| قَارِعَةٌ | Qari‘ah | A striking disaster. |
| ٱلْمِيعَادَ | Al-mi‘ad | The appointed promise. |
Simple Explanation
This ayah shows that the Quran is powerful, but guidance is still by Allah’s will. If people refuse truth, even the greatest signs will not benefit a closed heart.
Allah reminds believers that He could guide all people if He willed. But life is a test, and those who reject truth will face consequences until Allah’s promise arrives.

| Respect for Quran | You see the Quran as truth, even if some hearts reject it. |
| Patience in Dawah | You do your duty without trying to control people’s hearts. |

Kafaru | They disbelieved. |
| أَخَذْتُهُمْ | Akhadhtuhum | I seized them. |
| عِقَابِ | ‘Iqab | My punishment. |
Simple Explanation
Allah comforts the Prophet, peace be upon him. He was not the first messenger to be mocked. Messengers before him also faced rejection and ridicule.
Allah may give people time, but delay does not mean escape. When punishment came to earlier rejecters, it showed that Allah’s justice is certain.

| Trust in Justice | You know Allah gives time but never forgets. |

Is He who watches over every soul for what it has earned like others? Yet they made partners with Allah. Say, “Name them.” Or are you informing Him of something on earth that He does not know, or only of outward words? Rather, the plotting of those who disbelieve has been made attractive to them, and they have been turned away from the path. Whoever Allah lets go astray has no guide.
Word-by-Word Meaning
| Arabic | Transliteration | Simple Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| قَآئِمٌ | Qa’im | Watching / standing over. |
| كُلِّ نَفْسٍۭ | Kulli nafs | Every soul. |

| مَكْرُهُمْ | Makruhum | Their plotting. |
| هَادٍ | Had | A guide. |
Simple Explanation
Allah watches every soul and knows what every person earns. No false god can compare to the One who knows, owns, and controls everything.
People may decorate falsehood until it looks attractive, but decoration does not make it true. If Allah allows someone to go astray because of their rejection, no one can guide them.

| Tawheed | You reject false partners and worship Allah alone. |
| Accountability | You remember every soul is watched by Allah. |
| Clarity | You do not get fooled by decorated falsehood. |

Simple Explanation
Those who reject Allah and follow falsehood may face consequences in this world, but the Hereafter is far more severe.
No protector can save a person from Allah’s judgment. The only safety is to return to Allah with faith, repentance, and obedience.

Simple Explanation
Allah describes Jannah promised to people of taqwa. Its rivers flow, its fruit does not end, and its shade remains.
This world’s pleasures fade, but Jannah’s blessings are lasting. The ayah places two endings before the heart: the outcome of taqwa and the outcome of disbelief.

| Taqwa | You choose Allah-consciousness as the path to Paradise. |

Say in your heart: Ya Allah, make me from the people of taqwa and admit me into Your Paradise.

| لَآ أُشْرِكَ | La ushrik | I do not associate partners. |
| مَـَٔابِ | Ma’ab | My return. |
Simple Explanation
Some people of earlier scripture recognized and rejoiced in the revelation given to the Prophet, peace be upon him. Others rejected parts of it.
The Prophet’s message is clear: worship Allah alone, do not associate partners with Him, call people to Him, and return to Him.

| وَلِىٍّۢ | Wali | Protector. |
| وَاقٍ | Waq | Defender / saver. |
Simple Explanation
The Quran was sent down with clear judgment and guidance. It is not to be bent according to people’s desires.
Once knowledge comes, following desires becomes more dangerous. True guidance must lead the heart, not social pressure or personal cravings.
