Alif, Laam, Meem.

Dhaalikal kitaabu laa rayba feeh, hudal lil-muttaqeen

This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for the people of taqwa.

Alladheena yu’minoona bil-ghaybi wa yuqeemoonas-salaata wa mimmaa razaqnaahum yunfiqoon

Those who believe in the unseen, establish prayer, and spend from what We have provided for them.

Walladheena yu’minoona bimaa unzila ilayka wa maa unzila min qablika wa bil-aakhirati hum yooqinoon

And those who believe in what has been revealed to you and what was revealed before you, and they are certain of the Hereafter.

Ulaa’ika ‘alaa hudam mir-rabbihim wa ulaa’ika humul-muflihoon

Those are upon guidance from their Lord, and those are the successful.

Innal-ladheena kafaroo sawaa’un ‘alayhim a-andhartahum am lam tundhirhum laa yu’minoon

Indeed, those who disbelieve, it is the same for them whether you warn them or do not warn them; they will not believe.

Khatamallaahu ‘alaa quloobihim wa ‘alaa sam‘ihim, wa ‘alaa absaarihim ghishaawah, wa lahum ‘adhaabun ‘azeem

Allah has sealed their hearts and their hearing, and over their eyes is a covering; and for them is a great punishment.

Wa minan-naasi man yaqoolu aamannaa billaahi wa bil-yawmil-aakhiri wa maa hum bimu’mineen

And among the people are some who say, “We believe in Allah and the Last Day,” but they are not believers.

Yukhaadi‘oonallaaha walladheena aamanoo wa maa yakhda‘oona illaa anfusahum wa maa yash‘uroon

They try to deceive Allah and those who believe, but they deceive only themselves, and they do not realize it.

Fee quloobihim maradun fazaadahumullaahu maradaa, wa lahum ‘adhaabun aleemun bimaa kaanoo yakdhiboon

In their hearts is a disease, so Allah increased them in disease; and for them is a painful punishment because they used to lie.

Wa idhaa qeela lahum laa tufsidoo fil-ardi qaaloo innamaa nahnu muslihoon

And when it is said to them, “Do not cause corruption on the earth,” they say, “We are only reformers.”

Alaa innahum humul-mufsidoona wa laakin laa yash‘uroon

Surely, they are the ones who cause corruption, but they do not realize it.

Wa idhaa qeela lahum aaminoo kamaa aamanan-naasu qaaloo anu’minu kamaa aamanas-sufahaa, alaa innahum humus-sufahaa’u wa laakin laa ya‘lamoon

And when it is said to them, “Believe as the people have believed,” they say, “Should we believe as the foolish have believed?” Surely, they are the foolish, but they do not know.

Wa idhaa laqul-ladheena aamanoo qaaloo aamannaa wa idhaa khalaw ilaa shayaateenihim qaaloo innaa ma‘akum innamaa nahnu mustahzi’oon

And when they meet those who believe, they say, “We believe.” But when they are alone with their devils, they say, “Indeed, we are with you; we were only mocking.”

Allaahu yastahzi’u bihim wa yamudduhum fee tughyaanihim ya‘mahoon

Allah will return their mockery upon them and let them continue wandering blindly in their transgression.

Ulaa’ikal-ladheena ishtarawud-dalaalata bil-hudaa famaa rabihat tijaaratuhum wa maa kaanoo muhtadeen

Those are the ones who purchased misguidance in exchange for guidance, so their trade brought no profit, and they were not guided.

Mathaluhum kamathalil-ladhee istawqada naaran falammaa adaa’at maa hawlahu dhahaballaahu binoorihim wa tarakahum fee zulumaatil-laa yubsiroon

Their example is like one who kindled a fire, but when it lit what was around him, Allah took away their light and left them in darkness, unable to see.

Summum bukmun ‘umyun fahum laa yarji‘oon

Deaf, dumb, and blind, so they will not return.

Aw kasayyibim-minas-samaa’i feehi zulumaatun wa ra‘dun wa barqun yaj‘aloona asaabi‘ahum fee aadhaanihim minas-sawaa‘iqi hadharal-mawt, wallaahu muheetum-bil-kaafireen

Or like a rainstorm from the sky within which are darknesses, thunder, and lightning. They put their fingers in their ears against the thunderclaps, fearing death. And Allah surrounds the disbelievers.

Yakaadul-barqu yakhtafu absaarahum, kullamaa adaa’a lahum mashaw feehi wa idhaa azlama ‘alayhim qaamoo, wa law shaa’allaahu ladhahaba bisam‘ihim wa absaarihim, innallaaha ‘alaa kulli shay’in qadeer

The lightning almost snatches away their sight. Whenever it gives them light, they walk in it; but when darkness covers them, they stand still. And if Allah had willed, He could have taken away their hearing and their sight. Indeed, Allah has power over everything.

Yaaa ayyuhan-naasu‘budoo Rabbakumul-ladhee khalaqakum walladheena min qablikum la‘allakum tattaqoon

O humanity, worship your Lord, Who created you and those before you, so that you may become mindful of Him.

Alladhee ja‘ala lakumul-arda firaashan was-samaa’a binaa’an wa anzala minas-samaa’i maaa’an fa akhraja bihee minath-thamaraati rizqal-lakum, falaa taj‘aloo lillaahi andaadan wa antum ta‘lamoon

He is the One Who made the earth a resting place for you and the sky a canopy, and sent down rain from the sky, bringing forth fruits as provision for you. So do not set up equals with Allah while you know.

Wa in kuntum fee raybim-mimmaa nazzalnaa ‘alaa ‘abdinaa fa’too bisooratim-mim-mithlihee wad‘oo shuhadaaa’akum min doonillaahi in kuntum saadiqeen

And if you are in doubt about what We have sent down upon Our servant, then produce a surah like it and call your supporters besides Allah, if you are truthful.

Fa il-lam taf‘aloo wa lan taf‘aloo fattaqun-naaral-latee waqooduhaan-naasu wal-hijaarah, u‘iddat lil-kaafireen

But if you do not, and you will never be able to, then fear the Fire whose fuel is people and stones, prepared for the disbelievers.

Wa bashshiril-ladheena aamanoo wa ‘amilus-saalihaati anna lahum jannaatin tajree min tahtihal-anhaar, kullamaa ruziqoo minhaa min thamaratir-rizqan qaaloo haadhal-ladhee ruziqnaa min qabl, wa utoo bihee mutashaabihaa, wa lahum feehaaa azwaajum-mutahharah, wa hum feehaa khaalidoon

Give good news to those who believe and do righteous deeds that they will have Gardens beneath which rivers flow. Whenever they are provided with fruit from it, they will say, “This is what we were provided with before,” and they will be given things similar in appearance. They will have purified spouses therein, and they will remain there forever.

Innallaaha laa yastahyeee an yadriba mathalam maa ba‘oodatan famaa fawqahaa, fa ammalladheena aamanoo faya‘lamoona annahul-haqqu mir-Rabbihim, wa ammalladheena kafaroo fayaqooloona maa dhaaa araadallaahu bihaadhaa mathalaa, yudillu bihee katheeran wa yahdee bihee katheeraa, wa maa yudillu biheee illal-faasiqeen

Indeed, Allah is not shy to present an example, even of a mosquito or what is above it. As for those who believe, they know it is the truth from their Lord. But those who disbelieve say, “What did Allah intend by this example?” Through it He leaves many astray and guides many, but He leaves astray only the defiantly disobedient.

Alladheena yanqudoona ‘ahdallaahi mim ba‘di meethaaqihee wa yaqta‘oona maaa amarallaahu biheee an yoosala wa yufsidoona fil-ard, ulaaa’ika humul-khaasiroon

Those who break Allah’s covenant after it has been confirmed, cut what Allah commanded to be joined, and spread corruption on the earth; they are the losers.

Kayfa takfuroona billaahi wa kuntum amwaatan fa ahyaakum, thumma yumeetukum thumma yuhyeekum thumma ilayhi turja‘oon

How can you disbelieve in Allah when you were lifeless and He gave you life? Then He will cause you to die, then He will bring you back to life, then to Him you will be returned.

Huwal-ladhee khalaqa lakum maa fil-ardi jamee‘an thummas-tawaaa ilas-samaa’i fasawwaahunna sab‘a samaawaat, wa huwa bikulli shay’in ‘aleem

He is the One Who created for you everything on the earth, then turned toward the heaven and formed them into seven heavens. And He has full knowledge of everything.

Wa idh qaala Rabbuka lil-malaaa’ikati innee jaa‘ilun fil-ardi khaleefah, qaalooo ataj‘alu feehaa may-yufsidu feehaa wa yasfikud-dimaaa’a wa nahnu nusabbihu bihamdika wa nuqaddisu lak, qaala inneee a‘lamu maa laa ta‘lamoon

And remember when your Lord said to the angels, “I am placing a successor on the earth.” They said, “Will You place in it one who will spread corruption in it and shed blood, while we glorify You with praise and sanctify You?” He said, “Indeed, I know what you do not know.”

Wa ‘allama Aadamal-asmaaa’a kullahaa thumma ‘aradahum ‘alal-malaaa’ikati faqaala ambi’oonee bi asmaaa’i haaa’ulaaa’i in kuntum saadiqeen

And He taught Adam the names of all things, then presented them to the angels and said, “Tell Me the names of these, if you are truthful.”

Qaaloo subhaanaka laa ‘ilma lanaaa illaa maa ‘allamtanaa, innaka antal-‘aleemul-hakeem

They said, “Glory be to You. We have no knowledge except what You have taught us. Indeed, You are the All-Knowing, the All-Wise.”

Qaala yaaa Aadamu ambi’hum bi asmaaa’ihim, falammaaa anba’ahum bi asmaaa’ihim qaala alam aqul lakum inneee a‘lamu ghaybas-samaawaati wal-ardi wa a‘lamu maa tubdoona wa maa kuntum taktumoon

He said, “O Adam, tell them their names.” When Adam told them their names, Allah said, “Did I not tell you that I know the unseen of the heavens and the earth, and I know what you reveal and what you conceal?”

Wa idh qulnaa lil-malaaa’ikatisjudoo li Aadama fasajadooo illaaa Iblees, abaa wastakbara wa kaana minal-kaafireen

And remember when We said to the angels, “Prostrate before Adam,” so they prostrated, except Iblis. He refused, acted arrogantly, and became one of the disbelievers.

Wa qulnaa yaaa Aadamuskun anta wa zawjukal-jannata wa kulaa minhaa raghadan haythu shi’tumaa wa laa taqrabaa haadhihish-shajarata fatakoonaa minaz-zaalimeen

And We said, “O Adam, live in Paradise, you and your wife, and eat from it freely wherever you wish. But do not approach this tree, or you will become among the wrongdoers.”

Fa azallahumash-shaytaanu ‘anhaa fa akhrajahumaa mimmaa kaanaa feeh, wa qulna ihbitoo ba‘dukum liba‘din ‘aduww, wa lakum fil-ardi mustaqarrun wa mataa‘un ilaa heen

Then Shaytan caused them to slip from it and brought them out of what they had been in. And We said, “Descend, some of you as enemies to others. And for you on earth is a place of settlement and enjoyment for a time.”

Fatalaqqaaa Aadamu mir-Rabbihee kalimaatin fataaba ‘alayh, innahoo Huwat-Tawwaabur-Raheem

Then Adam received words from his Lord, and Allah accepted his repentance. Indeed, He is the Accepter of Repentance, the Most Merciful.

Qulnahbitoo minhaa jamee‘aa, fa immaa ya’tiyannakum minnee hudan faman tabi‘a hudaaya falaa khawfun ‘alayhim wa laa hum yahzanoon

We said, “Descend from it, all of you. Then when guidance comes to you from Me, whoever follows My guidance will have no fear upon them, nor will they grieve.”

Walladheena kafaroo wa kadhdhaboo bi aayaatinaaa ulaaa’ika ashaabun-naar, hum feehaa khaalidoon

But those who disbelieve and deny Our signs, they are the companions of the Fire; they will remain in it forever.

Yaa Baneee Israaa’eeladhkuroo ni‘matiyal-lateee an‘amtu ‘alaykum wa awfoo bi‘ahdeee oofi bi‘ahdikum wa iyyaaya farhaboon

O Children of Israel, remember My favour which I bestowed upon you, and fulfil your covenant with Me; I will fulfil My covenant with you. And fear Me alone.

Wa aaminoo bimaaa anzaltu musaddiqal-limaa ma‘akum wa laa takoonooo awwala kaafirim-bih, wa laa tashtaroo bi aayaatee thamanan qaleelaa, wa iyyaaya fattaqoon

And believe in what I have sent down, confirming what is with you. Do not be the first to disbelieve in it, and do not trade My verses for a small price. Be mindful of Me alone.

Wa laa talbisul-haqqa bil-baatili wa taktumul-haqqa wa antum ta‘lamoon

Do not mix truth with falsehood, nor hide the truth while you know.

Wa aqeemus-salaata wa aatuz-zakaata warka‘oo ma‘ar-raaki‘een

Establish prayer, give zakah, and bow with those who bow.

Ata’muroonan-naasa bil-birri wa tansawna anfusakum wa antum tatloonal-kitaab, afalaa ta‘qiloon

Do you command people to righteousness and forget yourselves while you recite the Scripture? Will you not understand?

Wasta‘eenoo bis-sabri was-salaah, wa innahaa lakabeeratun illaa ‘alal-khaashi‘een

Seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, it is difficult except for those who are humbly devoted.

Alladheena yazunnoona annahum mulaaqoo Rabbihim wa annahum ilayhi raaji‘oon

Those who are certain that they will meet their Lord and that they will return to Him.

Yaa Baneee Israaa’eeladhkuroo ni‘matiyal-lateee an‘amtu ‘alaykum wa annee faddaltukum ‘alal-‘aalameen

O Children of Israel, remember My favour which I bestowed upon you, and that I favoured you over the worlds.

Wattaqoo yawmal-laa tajzee nafsun ‘an nafsin shay’an wa laa yuqbalu minhaa shafaa‘atun wa laa yu’khadhu minhaa ‘adlun wa laa hum yunsaroon

And be mindful of a Day when no soul will benefit another soul at all, no intercession will be accepted from it, no compensation will be taken from it, and they will not be helped.

Wa idh najjaynaakum min Aali Fir‘awna yasoomoonakum sooo’al-‘adhaabi yudhabbiboona abnaaa’akum wa yastahyoona nisaaa’akum, wa fee dhaalikum balaaa’um mir-Rabbikum ‘azeem

And remember when We saved you from the people of Pharaoh, who were subjecting you to terrible punishment, slaughtering your sons and keeping your women alive. In that was a great trial from your Lord.

Wa idh faraqnaa bikumul-bahra fa anjaynaakum wa aghraqnaaa Aala Fir‘awna wa antum tanzuroon

And remember when We parted the sea for you, saved you, and drowned the people of Pharaoh while you were looking on.

Wa idh waa‘adnaa Moosaaa arba‘eena laylatan thummattakhadhtumul-‘ijla mim ba‘dihee wa antum zaalimoon

And remember when We appointed forty nights for Moses, then you took the calf for worship after him, while you were wrongdoers.

Thumma ‘afawnaa ‘ankum mim ba‘di dhaalika la‘allakum tashkuroon

Then We pardoned you after that, so that you might be grateful.

Wa idh aataynaa Moosal-kitaaba wal-furqaana la‘allakum tahtadoon

And remember when We gave Moses the Scripture and the Criterion, so that you might be guided.

Wa idh qaala Moosaa liqawmihee yaa qawmi innakum zalamtum anfusakum bittikhaadhikumul-‘ijla fatoobooo ilaa Baari’ikum faqtulooo anfusakum, dhaalikum khayrul-lakum ‘inda Baari’ikum, fataaba ‘alaykum, innahoo Huwat-Tawwaabur-Raheem

And remember when Moses said to his people, “O my people, you have wronged yourselves by taking the calf for worship. So repent to your Creator and kill yourselves; that is better for you with your Creator.” Then He accepted your repentance. Indeed, He is the Accepter of Repentance, the Most Merciful.

Wa idh qultum yaa Moosaa lan nu’mina laka hattaa narallaaha jahratan fa akhadhatkumul-saa‘iqatu wa antum tanzuroon

And remember when you said, “O Moses, we will never believe you until we see Allah openly.” So the thunderbolt seized you while you were looking on.

Thumma ba‘athnaakum mim ba‘di mawtikum la‘allakum tashkuroon

Then We brought you back to life after your death, so that you might be grateful.

Wa zallalnaa ‘alaykumul-ghamaama wa anzalnaa ‘alaykumul-manna was-salwaa, kuloo min tayyibaati maa razaqnaakum, wa maa zalamoonaa wa laakin kaanooo anfusahum yazlimoon

And We shaded you with clouds and sent down to you manna and quails, saying, “Eat from the good things We have provided for you.” They did not wrong Us, but they were wronging themselves.

Wa idh qulnaadkhuloo haadhihil-qaryata fakuloo minhaa haythu shi’tum raghadan wadkhulul-baaba sujjadan wa qooloo hittatun naghfir lakum khataayaakum, wa sanazeedul-muhsineen

And remember when We said, “Enter this town and eat from it freely wherever you wish, and enter the gate humbly, saying, ‘Relieve us of our sins.’ We will forgive your sins, and We will increase the good-doers.”

Fabaddalal-ladheena zalamoo qawlan ghayral-ladhee qeela lahum fa anzalnaa ‘alal-ladheena zalamoo rijzam-minas-samaa’i bimaa kaanoo yafsuqoon

But the wrongdoers changed the words from what had been said to them, so We sent down upon the wrongdoers a punishment from the sky because they were defiantly disobedient.

Wa idhis-tasqaa Moosaa liqawmihee faqulnadrib bi‘asaakal-hajar, fanfajarat minhusnata ‘ashrata ‘aynaa, qad ‘alima kullu unaasim-mashrabahum, kuloo washraboo mir-rizqillaahi wa laa ta‘thaw fil-ardi mufsideen

And remember when Moses prayed for water for his people, so We said, “Strike the rock with your staff.” Then twelve springs burst from it, and each group knew its drinking place. “Eat and drink from Allah’s provision, and do not go about spreading corruption on the earth.”

Wa idh qultum yaa Moosaa lan nasbira ‘alaa ta‘aaminw-waahidin fad‘u lanaa Rabbaka yukhrij lanaa mimmaa tumbitul-ardu mim baqlihaa wa qiththaaa’ihaa wa foomihaa wa ‘adasihaa wa basalihaa, qaala atastabdiloonal-ladhee huwa adnaa billadhee huwa khayr, ihbitoo misran fa inna lakum maa sa’altum, wa duribat ‘alayhimudh-dhillatu wal-maskanatu wa baaa’oo bighadabim-minallaah, dhaalika bi annahum kaanoo yakfuroona bi aayaatillaahi wa yaqtuloonan-nabiyyeena bighayril-haqq, dhaalika bimaa ‘asaw wa kaanoo ya‘tadoon

And remember when you said, “O Moses, we cannot endure one kind of food. So call upon your Lord for us to bring forth for us what the earth grows: its herbs, cucumbers, garlic, lentils, and onions.” He said, “Would you exchange what is better for what is lower? Go down to any town, and you will have what you asked for.” They were covered with humiliation and poverty and returned with anger from Allah. That was because they rejected Allah’s signs and killed the prophets unjustly. That was because they disobeyed and used to transgress.

Innal-ladheena aamanoo walladheena haadoo wan-nasaaraa was-saabi’eena man aamana billaahi wal-yawmil-aakhiri wa ‘amila saalihan falahum ajruhum ‘inda Rabbihim wa laa khawfun ‘alayhim wa laa hum yahzanoon

Indeed, those who believed, and those who were Jews, Christians, and Sabians, whoever believed in Allah and the Last Day and did righteous deeds, they will have their reward with their Lord, and there will be no fear upon them, nor will they grieve.

Wa idh akhadhnaa meethaaqakum wa rafa‘naa fawqakumut-Toor, khudhoo maaa aataynaakum biquwwatinw-wadhkuroo maa feehi la‘allakum tattaqoon

And remember when We took your covenant and raised the Mount above you, saying, “Hold firmly to what We have given you and remember what is in it, so that you may become mindful of Allah.”

Thumma tawallaytum mim ba‘di dhaalik, falawlaa fadlullaahi ‘alaykum wa rahmatuhu lakuntum minal-khaasireen

Then you turned away after that. If not for Allah’s favour upon you and His mercy, you would have been among the losers.

Wa laqad ‘alimtumul-ladheena‘tadaw minkum fis-sabti faqulnaa lahum koonoo qiradatan khaasi’een

And you certainly knew those among you who transgressed regarding the Sabbath, so We said to them, “Be apes, despised.”

Faja‘alnaahaa nakaalal-limaa bayna yadayhaa wa maa khalfahaa wa maw‘izatal-lil-muttaqeen

So We made it an example for those present and those who came after them, and a lesson for the people of taqwa.

Wa idh qaala Moosaa liqawmiheee innallaaha ya’murukum an tadhbahoo baqarah, qaalooo atattakhidhunaa huzuwaa, qaala a‘oodhu billaahi an akoona minal-jaahileen

And remember when Moses said to his people, “Allah commands you to slaughter a cow.” They said, “Are you making fun of us?” He said, “I seek refuge in Allah from being among the ignorant.”

Qaalud‘u lanaa Rabbaka yubayyin lanaa maa hiya, qaala innahoo yaqoolu innahaa baqaratul-laa faaridunw-wa laa bikr, ‘awaanum bayna dhaalik, faf‘aloo maa tu’maroon

They said, “Call upon your Lord for us to make clear to us what it is.” He said, “He says it is a cow neither old nor young, but between that. So do what you are commanded.”

Qaalud‘u lanaa Rabbaka yubayyin lanaa maa lawnuhaa, qaala innahoo yaqoolu innahaa baqaratun safraaa’u faaqi‘ul-lawnuhaa tasurrun-naazireen

They said, “Call upon your Lord for us to make clear to us what its colour is.” He said, “He says it is a yellow cow, bright in colour, pleasing to those who look at it.”

Qaalud‘u lanaa Rabbaka yubayyin lanaa maa hiya innal-baqara tashaabaha ‘alaynaa wa innaaa in shaaa’allaahu lamuhtadoon

They said, “Call upon your Lord for us to make clear to us what it is. The cows all look similar to us, and indeed, if Allah wills, we will be guided.”

Qaala innahoo yaqoolu innahaa baqaratul-laa dhaloolun tutheerul-arda wa laa tasqil-harth, musallamatul-laa shiyata feehaa, qaalul-aaana ji’ta bil-haqq, fadhabahoohaa wa maa kaadoo yaf‘aloon

He said, “Allah says it is a cow neither trained to till the soil nor water the fields, sound and without blemish.” They said, “Now you have come with the truth.” So they slaughtered it, though they almost did not do it.

Wa idh qataltum nafsan faddaara’tum feehaa, wallaahu mukhrijum-maa kuntum taktumoon

And remember when you killed a person and disputed over it, but Allah was going to bring out what you were hiding.

Faqulnadriboohu biba‘dihaa, kadhaalika yuhyillaahul-mawtaa wa yureekum aayaatihi la‘allakum ta‘qiloon

So We said, “Strike him with part of it.” Thus Allah brings the dead to life and shows you His signs so that you may understand.

Thumma qasat quloobukum mim ba‘di dhaalika fahiya kal-hijaarati aw ashaddu qaswah, wa inna minal-hijaarati lamaa yatafajjaru minhul-anhaar, wa inna minhaa lamaa yashaqqaqu fayakhruju minhul-maaa’, wa inna minhaa lamaa yahbitu min khashyatillaah, wa mallaahu bighaafilin ‘ammaa ta‘maloon

Then your hearts hardened after that, becoming like stones, or even harder. For indeed, from some stones rivers burst forth, from others water comes out when they split, and some fall down out of awe of Allah. And Allah is not unaware of what you do.

Afatatma‘oona ay-yu’minoo lakum wa qad kaana fareequm-minhum yasma‘oona kalaamallaahi thumma yuharrifoonahoo mim ba‘di maa ‘aqaloohu wa hum ya‘lamoon

Do you hope that they will believe you, while a group among them used to hear the word of Allah, then knowingly distort it after understanding it?

Wa idhaa laqul-ladheena aamanoo qaalooo aamannaa wa idhaa khalaa ba‘duhum ilaa ba‘din qaalooo atuhaddithoonahum bimaa fatahallaahu ‘alaykum liyuhaajjookum bihee ‘inda Rabbikum, afalaa ta‘qiloon

And when they meet those who believe, they say, “We believe.” But when they are alone with one another, they say, “Do you tell them what Allah has revealed to you, so they may use it as an argument against you before your Lord? Will you not understand?”

Awalaa ya‘lamoona annallaaha ya‘lamu maa yusirroona wa maa yu‘linoon

Do they not know that Allah knows what they conceal and what they declare?

Wa minhum ummiyyoona laa ya‘lamoonal-kitaaba illaaa amaaniyya wa in hum illaa yazunnoon

And among them are unlettered people who do not know the Scripture except wishful assumptions, and they only guess.

Fawaylul-lilladheena yaktuboonal-kitaaba bi aydeehim thumma yaqooloona haadhaa min ‘indillaahi liyashtaroo bihee thamanan qaleelaa, fawaylul-lahum mimmaa katabat aydeehim wa waylul-lahum mimmaa yaksiboon

So woe to those who write the Book with their own hands, then say, “This is from Allah,” to exchange it for a small price. Woe to them for what their hands have written, and woe to them for what they earn.

Wa qaaloo lan tamassanan-naaru illaaa ayyaamam-ma‘doodah, qul attakhadhtum ‘indallaahi ‘ahdan falan yukhlifallaahu ‘ahdahoo, am taqooloona ‘alallaahi maa laa ta‘lamoon

And they said, “The Fire will not touch us except for a few numbered days.” Say, “Have you taken a covenant with Allah, for Allah will never break His covenant, or do you say about Allah what you do not know?”

Balaa man kasaba sayyi’atan wa ahaatat bihee khatee’atuhu fa ulaaa’ika ashaabun-naar, hum feehaa khaalidoon

Yes, whoever earns evil and is surrounded by his sin, those are the companions of the Fire; they will remain in it forever.

Walladheena aamanoo wa ‘amilus-saalihaati ulaaa’ika ashaabul-jannah, hum feehaa khaalidoon

And those who believe and do righteous deeds, those are the companions of Paradise; they will remain in it forever.

Wa idh akhadhnaa meethaaqa Baneee Israaa’eela laa ta‘budoona illallaaha wa bil-waalidayni ihsaanaa wa dhil-qurbaa wal-yataamaa wal-masaakeeni wa qooloo linnaasi husnaa wa aqeemus-salaata wa aatuz-zakaah, thumma tawallaytum illaa qaleelam-minkum wa antum mu‘ridoon

And remember when We took the covenant from the Children of Israel: Worship none but Allah, be good to parents, relatives, orphans, and the needy, speak good words to people, establish prayer, and give zakah. Then you turned away, except a few of you, while you were refusing.

Wa idh akhadhnaa meethaaqakum laa tasfikoona dimaaa’akum wa laa tukhrijoona anfusakum min diyaarikum thumma aqrartum wa antum tashhadoon

And remember when We took your covenant: Do not shed one another’s blood or expel one another from your homes. Then you confirmed it while you were witnessing.

Thumma antum haaa’ulaaa’i taqtuloona anfusakum wa tukhrijoona fareeqam-minkum min diyaarihim tazaaharoona ‘alayhim bil-ithmi wal-‘udwaan, wa iy-ya’tookum usaaraa tufaadoohum wa huwa muharramun ‘alaykum ikhraajuhum, afatu’minoona biba‘dil-kitaabi wa takfuroona biba‘d, famaa jazaaa’u may-yaf‘alu dhaalika minkum illaa khizyun fil-hayaatid-dunyaa, wa yawmal-qiyaamati yuraddoona ilaaa ashaddil-‘adhaab, wa mallaahu bighaafilin ‘ammaa ta‘maloon

Yet here you are, killing one another and expelling a group of your own from their homes, supporting one another against them in sin and aggression. And if they come to you as captives, you ransom them, while their expulsion was forbidden to you. Do you believe in part of the Scripture and reject part of it? The reward for those among you who do this is nothing but disgrace in this worldly life, and on the Day of Resurrection they will be returned to the severest punishment. And Allah is not unaware of what you do.

Ulaaa’ikal-ladheenash-tarawul-hayaatad-dunyaa bil-aakhirati falaa yukhaffafu ‘anhumul-‘adhaabu wa laa hum yunsaroon

Those are the ones who traded the Hereafter for the life of this world, so the punishment will not be lightened for them, nor will they be helped.

Wa laqad aataynaa Moosal-kitaaba wa qaffaynaa mim ba‘dihee bir-rusul, wa aataynaa ‘Eesabna Maryamal-bayyinaati wa ayyadnaahu bi Roohil-Qudus, afakullamaa jaaa’akum rasoolum bimaa laa tahwaaa anfusukumustakbartum, fafareeqan kadhdhabtum wa fareeqan taqtuloon

And We certainly gave Moses the Book and sent after him messengers in succession. We gave Jesus, son of Mary, clear proofs and supported him with the Holy Spirit. But whenever a messenger came to you with what your souls did not desire, you became arrogant; some you denied and some you killed.

Wa qaaloo quloobunaa ghulf, bal la‘anahumullaahu bikufrihim faqaleelam-maa yu’minoon

And they said, “Our hearts are wrapped.” Rather, Allah has rejected them because of their disbelief, so little is it that they believe.

Wa lammaa jaaa’ahum kitaabum-min ‘indillaahi musaddiqul-limaa ma‘ahum wa kaanoo min qablu yastaftihoona ‘alal-ladheena kafaroo, falammaa jaaa’ahum maa ‘arafoo kafaroo bih, fala‘natullaahi ‘alal-kaafireen

And when there came to them a Book from Allah confirming what was with them, although before that they used to seek victory over those who disbelieved, then when there came to them what they recognized, they rejected it. So Allah’s rejection is upon the disbelievers.

Bi’samash-taraw biheee anfusahum ay-yakfuroo bimaaa anzalallaahu baghyan ay-yunazzilallaahu min fadlihee ‘alaa may-yashaaa’u min ‘ibaadih, fabaaa’oo bighadabin ‘alaa ghadab, wa lil-kaafireena ‘adhaabum-muheen

How miserable is what they sold themselves for: that they rejected what Allah sent down out of resentment that Allah sends His grace upon whom He wills among His servants. So they returned with anger upon anger, and for the disbelievers is a humiliating punishment.

Wa idhaa qeela lahum aaminoo bimaaa anzalallaahu qaaloo nu’minu bimaaa unzila ‘alaynaa wa yakfuroona bimaa waraaa’ahoo wa huwal-haqqu musaddiqal-limaa ma‘ahum, qul falima taqtuloona ambiyaaa’allaahi min qablu in kuntum mu’mineen

And when it is said to them, “Believe in what Allah has sent down,” they say, “We believe in what was sent down to us,” while they reject what came after it, though it is the truth confirming what is with them. Say, “Then why did you kill Allah’s prophets before, if you were believers?”

Wa laqad jaaa’akum Moosaa bil-bayyinaati thummattakhadhtumul-‘ijla mim ba‘dihee wa antum zaalimoon

And Moses certainly came to you with clear proofs, then you took the calf for worship after him, while you were wrongdoers.

Wa idh akhadhnaa meethaaqakum wa rafa‘naa fawqakumut-Toor, khudhoo maaa aataynaakum biquwwatinw-wasma‘oo, qaaloo sami‘naa wa ‘asaynaa wa ushriboo fee quloobihimul-‘ijla bikufrihim, qul bi’samaa ya’murukum biheee eemaanukum in kuntum mu’mineen

And remember when We took your covenant and raised the Mount above you: “Hold firmly to what We have given you and listen.” They said, “We hear and disobey.” Their hearts were filled with love for the calf because of their disbelief. Say, “How evil is what your faith commands you, if you are believers.”

Qul in kaanat lakumud-daarul-aakhiratu ‘indallaahi khaalisatam-min doonin-naasi fatamannawul-mawta in kuntum saadiqeen

Say, “If the home of the Hereafter with Allah is exclusively for you instead of all other people, then wish for death, if you are truthful.”
