The Unseen World

The Reality of Jannah

Jannah is the eternal home of Allah’s mercy, pleasure, honour, safety, and joy. Allah says that no soul knows what has been hidden for them of comfort for the eyes, and the Prophet ﷺ taught that Allah has prepared what no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart has imagined.

Start Here Beyond imagination

No eye has seen what Allah has prepared

  • Begin with Allah’s words. Allah says that no soul knows what has been hidden for them of joy and comfort as a reward for what they used to do.
  • The Prophet ﷺ explained this meaning. In an authentic hadith qudsi, Allah says He prepared for His righteous servants what no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart has imagined.
  • This means every description is only a doorway. Rivers, palaces, garments, spouses, fruit, peace, and beauty are real, but the full reality is greater than our minds can hold.
  • Do not make Jannah childish or crude. Jannah is not a fantasy garden drawn by imagination. It is the promised reward of the Lord of the worlds.
  • Do not empty Jannah of its real descriptions. The Qur’an and Sunnah describe real delights, so we believe in them as Allah and His Messenger ﷺ taught.

  • Sahih al-Bukhari 3244: Allah prepared for His righteous servants what no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart has imagined.
  • Sahih Muslim 2824: The same meaning is narrated with the Prophet ﷺ reciting Qur’an 32:17.

  • al-Maqam al-Amin. A secure station, showing safety after fear.
  • al-Husna and more. The Qur’an uses many beautiful descriptions for the final reward, but we should avoid viral lists of names unless each name is grounded in revelation.

Levels Firdaws and Wasilah

The levels of Jannah and the highest rank

  • Jannah has ranks and levels. People will not all be at the same level. Allah raises people by faith, sincerity, mercy, and righteous deeds.
  • There are one hundred grades mentioned in authentic hadith. The Prophet ﷺ described one hundred grades prepared for those who strive in Allah’s path, with a vast distance between each grade.
  • Al-Firdaws is the best and highest part of Paradise. The Prophet ﷺ taught that when we ask Allah for Paradise, we should ask for al-Firdaws.
  • Above al-Firdaws is the Throne of the Most Merciful. The hadith also mentions that the rivers of Paradise spring from it.
  • Al-Wasilah is a special rank. It is a rank in Paradise fitting for only one servant of Allah, and the Prophet ﷺ hoped to be that servant.
  • The highest honour belongs to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. He is the one for whom we ask al-Wasilah after the adhan, and Allah promised him the praised station.
Important: Do not confuse the levels of Jannah with the seven heavens mentioned in the Mi‘raj narrations. The Prophet ﷺ met different Prophets in different heavens during the Mi‘raj, but that is not a chart of “which Prophet lives in which level of Jannah.”

  • Sahih al-Bukhari 2790: The Prophet ﷺ mentioned one hundred grades in Paradise and taught the believers to ask for al-Firdaws, the best and highest part of Paradise.
  • Sahih Muslim 384: Al-Wasilah is a rank in Paradise for only one servant of Allah, and the Prophet ﷺ hoped to be that servant.
  • Sahih al-Bukhari 614: The dua after adhan asks Allah to grant Prophet Muhammad ﷺ al-Wasilah, al-Fadilah, and the praised station.
  • Qur’an 17:79: Allah mentions the praised station promised to the Prophet ﷺ.
Prophets What is authentic

Which Prophet will be in which level?

  • We do not have an authentic full map assigning every Prophet to a level of Jannah. Any colourful chart that says “this Prophet is in this level of Paradise” needs proof.
  • The Mi‘raj narrations mention the seven heavens, not Jannah levels. During the ascension, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ met Prophets in different heavens.
  • Adam عليه السلام was met in the first heaven. This is from the authentic Mi‘raj narrations.
  • Isa and Yahya عليهما السلام were met in the second heaven. They welcomed the Prophet ﷺ as a righteous brother and Prophet.
  • Yusuf عليه السلام was met in the third heaven. Authentic narrations mention the beauty given to him.
  • Idris عليه السلام was met in the fourth heaven. The Qur’an also mentions Allah raising him to a high station.
  • Harun عليه السلام was met in the fifth heaven. Musa عليه السلام was met in the sixth heaven.
  • Ibrahim عليه السلام was met in the seventh heaven. He was seen reclining against al-Bayt al-Ma‘mur.
  • Prophet Muhammad ﷺ has the highest honour. He is the first for whom the gate of Paradise will be opened, and al-Wasilah is hoped for him.

  • Sahih Muslim 197: The Prophet ﷺ will come to the gate of Paradise, and the keeper will say he was commanded not to open it for anyone before him.
Entry Gates and welcome

Entering Jannah and being welcomed

  • The gates of Paradise will be opened for the believers. The gatekeepers will greet them with peace and honour.
  • The angels will say salam. They will welcome the people of Paradise because of their patience and steadfastness.
  • Paradise has eight gates. One gate is called ar-Rayyan, reserved for those who fasted.
  • People of certain deeds will be called from their gates. Authentic hadith mention people being called from gates connected to prayer, jihad, charity, and fasting.
  • Prophet Muhammad ﷺ will be the first to have the gate opened. This is a special honour Allah gives him.
  • The first group will enter with shining beauty. The Prophet ﷺ described the first group as bright like the full moon.
  • Some from the Ummah will enter without reckoning. Authentic hadith mention seventy thousand who enter without account, because of their complete reliance upon Allah and avoidance of omens.

  • Qur’an 39:73: The gatekeepers of Paradise greet the believers and tell them to enter in peace.
  • Qur’an 13:23-24: Angels enter upon the believers from every gate, greeting them because of their patience.

  • Sahih Muslim 197: The gate is opened first for Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
  • Sahih al-Bukhari 3245 and 6472: Mention the first group entering like the full moon and the seventy thousand entering without reckoning.
Eternal Life No leaving

How people will stay in Jannah

  • They will stay forever. Jannah is not a temporary resort. It is the eternal home for the believers by Allah’s mercy.
  • No tiredness will touch them. Allah says no fatigue will touch them there, and they will not be expelled from it.
  • No fear and no grief. The anxieties of worldly life are removed.
  • No hatred, jealousy, or rancour. Allah will remove what was in the hearts, and people will be brothers facing one another.
  • There will be no impurity. The Prophet ﷺ said the people of Paradise will not spit, blow their noses, urinate, or relieve themselves.
  • Their sweat will smell like musk. Even bodily matters are transformed into purity and beauty.
  • No end after entering. Mortality will be brought in a visible form and brought to an end, and it will be announced that the people of Paradise will remain forever.
  • No one will wish to leave. The joy, safety, and honour are beyond anything the dunya ever offered.

Source for this section

  • Qur’an 98:8: The believers will abide forever in Gardens beneath which rivers flow.
  • Qur’an 15:47-48: Allah removes rancour from their hearts; no fatigue touches them and they will not be expelled.
  • Sahih al-Bukhari 3245: The people of Paradise have no spitting, nasal discharge, urination, or relieving themselves; their sweat is musk.
  • Sahih al-Bukhari 4730: Mortality is brought in a visible form and brought to an end, and eternity is announced for the people of Paradise and the people of Hell.
  • Sahih al-Bukhari 2817: No one who enters Paradise wishes to return to the world, except a martyr who wishes to return because of the honour he receives.
No Namaz Burden Praise remains

Will there be namaz, fasting, or duties in Jannah?

  • Jannah is the home of reward, not the home of testing. The obligations of salah, fasting, zakat, struggle, patience, and sacrifice belong to the worldly test.
  • There is no five-times namaz obligation in Jannah. A person will not be called to perform duties as they were in dunya.
  • There is no fasting obligation. Food, drink, rest, joy, and purity are part of the reward.
  • But remembrance of Allah does not disappear. The Prophet ﷺ taught that the people of Paradise will be inspired to glorify and praise Allah as naturally as breathing.
  • This is not laziness. In dunya, worship is obedience through effort. In Jannah, praise is joy, nature, honour, and nearness to Allah.
  • So teach it carefully. Do not say “there is no worship” as if hearts forget Allah. Say there are no burdensome obligations, while praise and glorification remain natural and beloved.

Source for this section

  • Qur’an 15:48: No fatigue touches the people of Paradise.
  • Sahih Muslim 2835: The people of Paradise will be inspired to glorify and praise Allah as they breathe.
  • General principle: Dunya is the place of testing and obligation; Jannah is the place of reward and honour.
Delights Rivers, homes, beauty

Food, drink, homes, garments, and beauty in Jannah

  • Rivers beneath them. The Qur’an repeatedly describes Gardens beneath which rivers flow.
  • Four kinds of rivers are mentioned together. The Qur’an mentions rivers of pure water, milk whose taste does not change, wine delicious to those who drink, and purified honey.
  • Fruit and whatever they desire. People will have whatever they wish, and with Allah is even more.
  • Garments of silk and brocade. The Qur’an mentions beautiful clothing and adornment for the people of Paradise.
  • Gold, silver, pearls, and vessels. Authentic hadith mention utensils, combs, fragrance, and adornments beyond worldly luxury.
  • Tents and palaces beyond imagination. The Prophet ﷺ described a pavilion made from a single hollow pearl.
  • No worldly intoxication or harm. The wine of Jannah is not like the forbidden wine of dunya. It has no evil, sin, headache, or corruption.
  • Every detail is pure. Nothing in Jannah is dirty, vulgar, exhausting, boring, or harmful.

  • Qur’an 47:15: Mentions rivers of water, milk, wine, and honey, plus fruits and forgiveness.
  • Qur’an 50:35: The people of Paradise will have whatever they wish, and with Allah is more.

  • Sahih al-Bukhari 3245: Mentions gold and silver combs, fragrance, and the first group entering Paradise.
  • Sahih al-Bukhari 4879: Mentions a pavilion in Paradise made from a single hollow pearl.
Companions Pure spouses

Hoor al-‘Ayn, spouses, and family in Jannah

  • The Qur’an mentions pure spouses. The reward of Jannah includes purified companionship, with no impurity, betrayal, jealousy, hurt, or sadness.
  • The Qur’an mentions Hoor al-‘Ayn. The Qur’an describes beautiful, pure companions of Paradise in several places.
  • Authentic hadith mention wives of Paradise. Sahih al-Bukhari describes the beauty and purity of the spouses of the people of Paradise.
  • Do not turn this into cheap jokes. These descriptions are part of revelation and must be spoken about with respect.
  • Women are not forgotten in Jannah. Allah promises believers whatever they desire and more; no believing woman will feel injustice, loneliness, jealousy, humiliation, or loss.
  • Righteous family can be reunited. The Qur’an mentions believers entering Jannah with righteous fathers, spouses, and descendants.
  • Children and descendants are raised by Allah’s mercy. Allah mentions joining descendants with believers while not depriving them of their deeds.
  • Hearts will be clean. No one in Jannah will carry bitterness, comparison, resentment, or emotional pain.
Teaching point: Avoid both extremes. Do not deny what Allah and His Messenger ﷺ mentioned, and do not present Jannah as if women are ignored or as if Paradise is only about one desire. Jannah is complete joy, complete justice, and complete honour.

  • Qur’an 2:25 and 4:57: Mention purified spouses in Paradise.

  • Qur’an 52:21: Mentions joining descendants with believers by Allah’s grace.
  • Qur’an 15:47: Allah removes rancour from the hearts of the people of Paradise.
Greatest Blessing Allah’s pleasure

The welcome by Allah and the greatest blessing

  • Allah will call the people of Paradise. He will ask them if they are pleased, though He has already given them beyond what anyone received.
  • Allah will give something greater than all delights. He will bestow His pleasure upon them and never be angry with them after that.
  • The believers will see Allah. Seeing Allah is the greatest joy of the people of Paradise, greater than every created delight.
  • This is not like seeing creation. We affirm what the authentic texts affirm without imagining how, without comparison, and without denying it.
  • Faces will be radiant. The Qur’an mentions faces shining on that Day, looking toward their Lord.
  • Allah’s pleasure is safety forever. When Allah is pleased and never angry again, fear is gone completely.

Glad Tidings Specific people mentioned

People the Prophet ﷺ gave glad tidings of Jannah

  • Begin with an important rule. We do not declare a specific person to be in Jannah by our emotions, family loyalty, popularity, dreams, or community praise. We only say it with certainty for those whom Allah and His Messenger ﷺ named or described in authentic revelation.
  • The ten promised Jannah. The Prophet ﷺ named Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, Ali, Talhah, az-Zubayr, Abdur-Rahman ibn Awf, Sa‘d ibn Abi Waqqas, Sa‘id ibn Zayd, and Abu Ubaydah ibn al-Jarrah رضي الله عنهم as being in Paradise. They are commonly known as al-Asharah al-Mubashsharah.
  • Khadijah رضي الله عنها. Jibril عليه السلام came to the Prophet ﷺ and told him to convey salam to Khadijah from her Lord and from Jibril, and to give her glad tidings of a palace in Jannah where there is no noise and no toil.
  • Fatimah رضي الله عنها. The Prophet ﷺ gave special glad tidings about Fatimah, describing her as the leader of the women of Paradise. This must be mentioned with honour because she is from the pure household of the Prophet ﷺ.
  • Hasan and Husayn رضي الله عنهما. Authentic narrations mention that Hasan and Husayn are the leaders of the youth of Paradise. Their virtue is not a small side detail; it is part of the honour Allah gave to the family of His Messenger ﷺ.
  • Bilal رضي الله عنه. The Prophet ﷺ heard Bilal’s footsteps ahead of him in Paradise and asked him about the deed he hoped from. Bilal mentioned that whenever he made wudu, he prayed what Allah allowed him to pray. This teaches that quiet, consistent deeds may become enormous with Allah.
  • Umar رضي الله عنه. The Prophet ﷺ saw a palace in Paradise and was told it was for Umar. Umar is also included among the ten promised Paradise, but the palace narration shows a separate honour mentioned for him.
  • Umm Sulaym / al-Ghumaysa bint Milhan رضي الله عنها. The Prophet ﷺ said he entered Paradise and heard footsteps, then he was told it was al-Ghumaysa, the mother of Anas ibn Malik. This is a beautiful example that righteous women are remembered by Allah, even when the world does not make noise for them.
  • Harithah ibn Suraqah رضي الله عنه. His mother asked the Prophet ﷺ about him after Badr. The Prophet ﷺ told her that there are many gardens in Paradise and that her son was in al-Firdaws, the highest Paradise.
  • Umm Haram bint Milhan رضي الله عنها and the first naval expedition. The Prophet ﷺ said Paradise was granted to the first group of his Ummah who would undertake the sea expedition. Umm Haram asked to be among them, and the Prophet ﷺ told her that she would be among the first.
  • Ukkashah ibn Mihsan رضي الله عنه. When the Prophet ﷺ mentioned the seventy thousand from his Ummah who would enter Paradise without reckoning, Ukkashah asked Allah’s Messenger ﷺ to ask Allah to make him one of them, and the Prophet ﷺ said that he was one of them.
  • Abdullah ibn Salam رضي الله عنه. Authentic reports mention glad tidings for Abdullah ibn Salam, including the narration that he was “the tenth of ten in Paradise.” He was a Jewish scholar who accepted Islam after recognising the truth of the Prophet ﷺ.
  • The people of Badr and Hudaybiyah have great glad tidings. Authentic narrations mention Allah’s special forgiveness for the people of Badr, and another narration states that no one who pledged under the tree will enter the Fire. This is not a license to sin; it is an honour Allah gave to people who stood for Islam at a time of great sacrifice.
Teaching point: This section should not become a casual “celebrity list of Jannah.” Mention these names to increase love for the righteous, trust in authentic revelation, and hope in Allah’s mercy. For anyone not named in revelation, we hope good for the righteous and fear for the sinner, but we do not speak with certainty.

Ranks Mercy and deeds

Who enters Jannah and how ranks differ

  • No one enters by deeds alone. A person enters by Allah’s mercy, while deeds are a cause and a sign of faith.
  • Tawhid is the foundation. Paradise is promised to those who believe in Allah, avoid shirk, and follow His messengers.
  • Righteous deeds raise ranks. Salah, charity, fasting, patience, Qur’an, good character, and avoiding oppression all matter.
  • Some enter without reckoning. The seventy thousand from the Ummah are described as people of deep reliance upon Allah.
  • The last person to enter still receives enormous reward. Authentic hadith mention the last person to enter Paradise receiving the like of the world and much more.
  • Do not become proud. The one who wants Jannah should ask Allah, obey Him, repent, and never rely on personal greatness.

Simple daily habit: Ask Allah for Jannah and protection from the Fire often. Do not wait for Ramadan, fear, illness, or sadness. The believer’s heart should travel toward Jannah every day.
Wrong Claims Avoid confusion

Wrong claims people make about Jannah

  • Claim: “Jannah is only spiritual and not real.” False. The Qur’an and Sunnah describe real delights, real entry, real gates, real reward, and real eternity.
  • Claim: “Jannah is only about food and Hoor.” False. Jannah includes Allah’s pleasure, seeing Allah, safety, family, purity, honour, and every good desire.
  • Claim: “Women will be unhappy in Jannah.” False. No believer will suffer injustice, jealousy, humiliation, sadness, or loss in Jannah.
  • Claim: “The seven heavens of Mi‘raj are the seven levels of Jannah.” Do not teach this as fact. The Mi‘raj heavens and Jannah levels are different topics.
  • Claim: “Every Prophet’s exact level of Jannah is known.” Not authentically mapped for us. Do not invent ranks where revelation did not give details.
  • Claim: “There will be salah like dunya in Jannah.” No. Jannah is reward, not the place of obligation. Praise of Allah will continue naturally and joyfully.
  • Claim: “I will enter Jannah because I am from a certain group, family, or label.” Lineage and labels do not replace tawhid, sincerity, obedience, repentance, and Allah’s mercy.
  • Claim: “Every popular list of people promised Jannah is automatically authentic.” No. Each name and each group must be checked against reliable hadith evidence.
  • Claim: “Jannah can be guaranteed to specific people today without evidence.” We do not guarantee Paradise to a specific person unless revelation gives that glad tidings.
Lessons Live for the final home

What belief in Jannah should do to the heart

  • It should make tawhid precious. The road to Jannah begins with worshipping Allah alone.
  • It should make salah lighter on the heart. Every prayer is a step toward a home where prayer will no longer be a duty, but closeness to Allah will remain forever.
  • It should make sins look small and ugly. No forbidden pleasure is worth losing eternal honour.
  • It should soften the heart toward people. Do not carry oppression, jealousy, arrogance, or cruelty into your daily life while asking for the home of purity.
  • It should increase hope. Allah’s mercy is wider than our brokenness, but hope must walk with repentance.
  • It should increase longing for Allah. The greatest joy of Jannah is not the gardens themselves, but Allah’s pleasure and seeing Him.
  • It should prepare the reader for the warning that follows. After learning the mercy of Jannah, the next topic is the reality of Jahannam.

ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّٰهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ

All praise is for Allah, Lord of all worlds.
