Signs of the Final Hour

A Landslide in the West

A landslide in the west is one of the ten great signs of the Hour mentioned in authentic hadith. It is separate from the landslide in the east and the landslide in the Arabian Peninsula, and its exact place and time are known to Allah alone.

Major Sign To Come One of Three Landslides
Meaning A real sign

What is the landslide in the west?

The Prophet ﷺ mentioned land-sliding in three places among the ten major signs before the Hour: one in the east, one in the west, and one in the Arabian Peninsula. The landslide in the west is therefore not an ordinary news event being guessed at by people, but a real sign from the unseen that Allah will bring when He wills.

The hadith does not name a country, city, mountain range, sea coast, date, or exact people affected. It gives us the direction and the certainty of the sign. That is enough for belief, and it is also the boundary where careful teaching should stop.

  • Sahih Muslim 2901a: The Prophet ﷺ mentioned ten signs before the Hour, including land-slides in three places: one in the east, one in the west, and one in Arabia.
  • Sahih Muslim 2901b: Another narration lists land-sliding in the east, land-sliding in the west, and land-sliding in the peninsula of Arabia separately among the ten signs.
Count Separate sign

Why it has its own page

The three landslides are often discussed together because they appear together in the hadith. But in the authentic list of ten signs, they are counted as three separate signs: east, west, and the Arabian Peninsula.

Giving each one its own page keeps the list clean. Readers can follow the ten signs one by one without thinking that “the three landslides” are only one sign in the count.

  • Sahih Muslim 2901b: The narration says the Hour will not come until ten signs appear, then mentions land-sliding in the east, west, and the Arabian Peninsula.
  • Sahih Muslim 2901a: The wording mentions land-slides in three places, confirming that the western landslide is one of those named places.
Limits Do not overclaim

What we know and what we do not know

We know from authentic hadith that a landslide in the west will happen before the Hour. We also know it belongs to the ten major signs, so it should be treated with seriousness and not turned into casual speculation.

We do not know the exact western region meant by the hadith. The wording does not fix a modern country, continent, border, or political identity. The safest wording is: a landslide in the west will occur, and Allah knows its exact place and time.

  • Sahih Muslim 2901a: The hadith names the western landslide but does not give a detailed map, date, or local description.
  • Sahih Muslim 2901b: The wording is brief, so extra claims should not be taught as certain without authentic evidence.
Clarity Not every disaster

Can we point to a modern disaster and say this is it?

No. Landslides, earthquakes, sinkholes, volcanic collapses, floods, and other disasters can happen in many places. A frightening event in a western region should not automatically be labelled as this major sign.

The hadith gives certainty that the sign will happen, but it does not give ordinary people a checklist for declaring every ground collapse to be that sign. The balanced answer is: Allah knows best. We believe in the sign, and we avoid claims built on panic clips or dramatic headlines.

  • Sahih Muslim 2901a: The narration confirms the sign, but it does not instruct people to attach the label to every disaster.
  • Sahih Muslim 2901b: The western landslide is named among the ten signs, while its exact identifying details remain from the unseen.
Warning Allah’s command

What this sign should do to the heart

The ground beneath people feels firm. Cities are planned on it, wealth is buried in it, roads are drawn across it, and homes are trusted to it. A landslide from the signs of the Hour reminds us that even the earth is obedient to Allah.

The lesson is not fear without direction. The lesson is humility, repentance, and preparation. When Allah tells us about the unseen, the wise heart does not chase every rumour. It returns to Allah before the signs arrive.

  • Sahih Muslim 2901b: Its separate mention shows that it is a serious sign, not an extra detail to ignore.
Wrong Claims Do not teach as fact

Fabrications and wrong claims people make

Because the narration gives only brief details, people sometimes try to add a whole map, timeline, and breaking-news drama around it. The safe path is to honour the hadith without dressing it in guesswork.

  • Claim: “The west definitely means one exact modern country.” The hadith gives the direction, not a modern political border.
  • Claim: “This sign has already happened and everyone missed it.” Such certainty needs authentic proof, not screenshots or forwarded messages.
  • Claim: “Every western earthquake or landslide is this sign.” Ordinary disasters should not automatically be labelled as a major sign of the Hour.
  • Claim: “The three landslides are only one sign.” They may be taught together as a topic, but the ten-sign narration counts east, west, and Arabia separately.
  • Claim: “The exact order is solved from this narration alone.” This narration lists the signs, while detailed ordering is discussed by scholars using all relevant reports.
  • Claim: “The landslide is only symbolic.” The hadith speaks of land-sliding as a real sign, so it should not be reduced to metaphor without evidence.
Lessons For believers

What this sign teaches

  • Believe what is authentic. The western landslide is one of the signs mentioned by the Prophet ﷺ.
  • Do not force a map onto the hadith. The exact location was not specified.
  • Keep the ten-sign count clear. East, west, and the Arabian Peninsula are separate landslide signs.
  • Let the unseen humble you. The earth is firm only by Allah’s permission.
  • Do not learn aqidah from viral panic. Authentic revelation is the anchor, not internet thunder.
  • Prepare with action. Salah, tawbah, honesty, and obedience matter more than guessing the location.
