حَدَّثَنَا آدَمُ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، ... قَالَ ‏" احْفَظْ وِعَاءَهَا وَعَدَدَهَا وَوِكَاءَهَا، فَإِنْ جَاءَ صَاحِبُهَا، وَإِلاَّ فَاسْتَمْتِعْ بِهَا ‏"‏.
I found a purse containing one hundred Dinars. The Prophet told me to announce it for one year. When no one came, he told me to keep its container, string, and count, and if the owner comes, give it to him, otherwise use it.

حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ، ...
A bedouin asked about a lost thing. The Prophet said to announce it for one year. When asked about a lost sheep, he said, 'It is for you, your brother, or the wolf.' When asked about a lost camel, he became angry and said, 'You have nothing to do with it; it has its feet and water reserve till its owner finds it.'

The Prophet said about Luqatah: know its container and string and announce it publicly for one year. About a lost sheep, he said, 'Take it, for it is for you, your brother, or the wolf.' About a lost camel, he said, 'Leave it till its owner finds it.'

I found a whip during a battle. I said I would give it to its owner if found; otherwise I would use it. Ubai bin Ka`b then told me about finding a purse and being ordered by the Prophet to announce it repeatedly and then use it if no owner came.
