I heard a man reciting a verse but I had heard the Prophet reciting it differently. So, I took him to Allah's Messenger who said, 'Both of you are right.' Shu`ba said: I think he also said, 'Do not differ, for the nations before you differed and perished.'

بَابُ مَنْ رَدَّ أَمْرَ السَّفِيهِ وَالضَّعِيفِ الْعَقْلِ، وَإِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ حَجَرَ عَلَيْهِ الإِمَامُ

Jabir narrated that the Prophet rejected the gift of charity given by a poor man before he prohibited him from giving in charity. Malik said: If a person is in debt and he has nothing except a slave, it is not permissible for him to manumit the slave.

وَيُذْكَرُ عَنْ جَابِرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَدَّ عَلَى الْمُتَصَدِّقِ قَبْلَ النَّهْيِ ثُمَّ نَهَاهُ. وَقَالَ مَالِكٌ ... لَمْ يَجُزْ عِتْقُهُ.

A man was often cheated in buying. The Prophet said to him, 'When you buy something, say: No cheating.' The man used to say so thereafter.

The Prophet said, 'Whoever takes a false oath so as to take the property of a Muslim will meet Allah while He is angry with him.' Al-Ash'ath said that this concerned his land dispute with a Jew.

Ka`b demanded his debt from Ibn Abi Hadrad in the Mosque and their voices rose. The Prophet came out and told Ka`b to reduce the debt by half, then ordered the debtor to repay it.

I heard Hisham reciting Surat al-Furqan differently from how I had learned it, so I brought him to the Prophet. The Prophet said both ways were revealed and instructed, 'Recite in the way that is easier for you.'

وَقَيَّدَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ عِكْرِمَةَ عَلَى تَعْلِيمِ الْقُرْآنِ وَالسُّنَنِ وَالْفَرَائِضِ.

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ ...
The Prophet sent horsemen to Najd who brought Thumama bin Uthal and tied him to a pillar of the Mosque. Later the Prophet ordered, 'Release him!'

`Abdullah bin Abi Hadrad owed him a debt. Ka`b caught hold of him and their voices rose. The Prophet told Ka`b to reduce the debt by half, so he took half and exempted the other half.

I was a blacksmith in the pre-Islamic period, and `Asi bin Wail owed me money. I went to demand it, but he refused unless I disbelieved in Muhammad. Then Allah revealed: 'Have you seen him who disbelieved in Our signs and yet says, I will be given property and offspring?'
