Surah Al-Layl

Surah Al-Layl

The Night

الليل
Arabic Name الليل
Meaning of the Name The Night
Revealed In Makkah
Type Makki Surah
Total Ayahs 21 Ayahs
Main Message A Makki surah that swears by the night, the day, and the creation of male and female, then explains that people’s efforts are different: the one who gives, fears Allah, and believes in the best promise is eased toward ease, while the one who is stingy, self-sufficient, and denies the best promise is eased toward hardship.
Why It Matters It teaches that human choices lead in different directions, wealth cannot save a person when he falls, guidance belongs to Allah, and the truly righteous person gives sincerely only seeking the Face of his Lord, the Most High.
Purpose It trains the heart to give generously, fear Allah, believe in His promise, avoid stinginess and arrogance, seek Allah’s pleasure through sincere charity, and trust that Allah will make the path of goodness easy for those who choose it.
