Signs of the Final Hour

Ya’juj and Ma’juj

Ya’juj and Ma’juj are a real people mentioned in the Qur’an and authentic hadith. Their final release is one of the major signs of the Hour, and their story teaches that no human power can stop what Allah has decreed.

Major Sign To Come After the Dajjal
Meaning Real people

Who are Ya’juj and Ma’juj?

Ya’juj and Ma’juj are not a symbol, a fantasy tribe, or a bedtime monster story. They are a real people whom Allah mentioned by name. The Qur’an describes them as people who were spreading corruption in the earth during the time of Dhul-Qarnayn, and authentic hadith describe their release near the end of time.

We do not need to invent their exact ethnicity, country, language, or modern political identity. The Qur’an gives the name, the corruption, the barrier, and the final release. The Sunnah gives the order of events near the end of time. That is enough for safe belief and teaching.

  • Qur’an 18:94: The people said to Dhul-Qarnayn that Ya’juj and Ma’juj were spreading corruption in the land.
  • Sahih al-Bukhari 3348: The Prophet ﷺ mentioned Ya’juj and Ma’juj in a narration about their huge number among mankind.
Dhul-Qarnayn Barrier

The barrier built against them

In Surah al-Kahf, people asked Dhul-Qarnayn to build a barrier between them and Ya’juj and Ma’juj because of their corruption. Dhul-Qarnayn did not behave like a greedy ruler. He said that what Allah had given him was better, and he asked them to help with strength and labour.

The Qur’an describes a strong barrier made with pieces of iron and molten copper. When it was completed, Ya’juj and Ma’juj could not climb over it or pierce through it. Dhul-Qarnayn then returned the matter to Allah and said that this was mercy from his Lord.

The exact location of this barrier is not given in the Qur’an or authentic hadith. A Muslim should not speak with certainty where Allah and His Messenger ﷺ did not give certainty. Videos, maps, and dramatic claims may look shiny, but shiny is not the same as sahih.

  • Qur’an 18:98: Dhul-Qarnayn said the barrier was a mercy from his Lord and that when Allah’s promise comes, Allah will level it.
Warning Before the final release

The opening in the barrier mentioned by the Prophet ﷺ

Zaynab bint Jahsh رضي الله عنها narrated that the Prophet ﷺ woke in a state of alarm and said that a hole had been opened in the barrier of Ya’juj and Ma’juj. He warned of approaching evil, and when asked whether people could be destroyed even while righteous people were among them, he said yes, when evil becomes widespread.

This hadith does not mean the final release had already happened. The final release has a clear end-time sequence: it occurs after the Dajjal and after Isa عليه السلام descends. The hadith is a warning that trials can come closer, and that a society is not safe merely because some good people live in it if corruption becomes dominant.

  • Sahih Muslim 2880a: The same warning is narrated with the chapter title about the approach of tribulations and the opening of the barrier of Ya’juj and Ma’juj.
Major Sign After Isa عليه السلام descends

The final release of Ya’juj and Ma’juj

The final release of Ya’juj and Ma’juj will happen near the end of time, after the descent of Isa عليه السلام and after he kills the Dajjal. Allah will reveal to Isa عليه السلام that He has brought forth servants whom no one can fight, so Isa عليه السلام will take the believers to Mount Tur.

They will come down from every elevation in huge numbers. Their movement will be overwhelming. In the long authentic narration, the first of them will pass by the Lake of Tiberias and drink from it, and the last of them will say that there was once water there. This shows the scale of their number and the severity of the trial.

The believers will not be commanded to fight them. This is important. Their destruction will not come by armies, weapons, or human planning. It will come by Allah’s command after Isa عليه السلام and the believers turn to Allah in supplication.

  • Sahih Muslim 2937a: The Prophet ﷺ described that Allah will reveal to Isa عليه السلام to take the believers to Tur because Ya’juj and Ma’juj will be people whom no one can fight.
  • Sahih Muslim 2937a: The same narration mentions their passing by the Lake of Tiberias and the hardship faced by Isa عليه السلام and the believers.
Their End By Allah’s command

How Allah will destroy them

Isa عليه السلام and the believers will make dua to Allah. Allah will then send creatures that strike the necks of Ya’juj and Ma’juj, and they will perish together. After that, the earth will be filled with their bodies, so Isa عليه السلام and the believers will again ask Allah for relief.

Allah will send birds to carry them away, then send rain that will wash the earth until it becomes clean. After this, the earth will be blessed again by Allah’s command. The hadith describes a time of great blessing after the trial is removed.

This part of the narration is a powerful reminder: the greatest worldly strength is still weak before Allah. Ya’juj and Ma’juj will overwhelm people, but they will not overwhelm Allah’s decree.

Wrong Claims Do not teach as fact

Fabrications and wrong claims people make

Many people turn Ya’juj and Ma’juj into internet theatre. Some claims are guesses, some are old legends, and some are pure imagination wearing a documentary hat. The safe path is to stay with the Qur’an and authentic hadith.

  • Claim: “They are definitely this modern nation or ethnicity.” The Qur’an and authentic hadith do not give a modern passport, ethnicity, or political label for them.
  • Claim: “Their barrier has been identified with certainty on a map.” The exact location is not fixed in the Qur’an or authentic hadith, so certainty should not be claimed.
  • Claim: “They are aliens, demons, zombies, or non-human creatures.” This is not from the Qur’an or authentic Sunnah. They are spoken of as a people.
  • Claim: “They have already fully emerged.” The final release is tied to the end-time sequence after the Dajjal and the descent of Isa عليه السلام.
  • Claim: “Every huge war or powerful empire is Ya’juj and Ma’juj.” Such claims are speculation unless supported by clear revelation.
  • Claim: “Their exact size, strange bodies, or hidden underground lifestyle is known with certainty.” Dramatic physical descriptions and viral stories need proof. Do not build belief on tales without authentic evidence.
Lessons For believers

What this sign teaches

  • Allah’s promise will happen. Dhul-Qarnayn’s barrier will remain only until the time Allah has decreed.
  • Do not speak without knowledge. The exact location and modern identity of Ya’juj and Ma’juj are not ours to invent.
  • Strength belongs to Allah. A people whom no one can fight will still be destroyed by Allah in a moment.
  • Evil in society is dangerous. The hadith of the barrier opening teaches that widespread evil can bring destruction even when some righteous people exist.
  • Dua is a weapon of the believers. Isa عليه السلام and the believers will turn to Allah, and Allah will remove the trial.
