The Beast of the Earth

The Beast of the Earth is called Dabbat al-Ard in Arabic. Allah mentions that a creature will be brought out from the earth when the decree comes upon people. This is not a fairy-tale animal, not a cartoon monster, and not a symbol that we are free to reshape however we like.

A Muslim believes in this sign because Allah mentioned it and the Prophet ﷺ counted it among the major signs of the Hour. At the same time, we do not invent its exact appearance, size, species, colour, or location. The unseen is not a drawing competition.

Surah an-Naml mentions the Beast in a short but powerful verse. Allah says that when the word comes upon people, He will bring out for them a beast from the earth that will speak to them, because people were not certain in Allah’s signs.

This means the Beast is connected to a time when denial has become settled and excuses have become hollow. The sign will not arrive to entertain people. It will come as a serious sign from Allah, showing that the time of casual argument against revelation is over.

The Prophet ﷺ listed the Beast among the ten major signs that will appear before the Hour. In the same narration, he mentioned the Smoke, the Dajjal, the rising of the sun from the west, the descent of Isa عليه السلام, Ya’juj and Ma’juj, three great landslides, and the fire that will drive people to their place of gathering.

This tells us that the Beast is not a small local incident, a strange animal sighting, or a viral clip from the woods. It belongs to the great final signs that shake the ordinary order of the world.

An authentic hadith connects two signs very closely: the rising of the sun from the west and the emergence of the Beast before people in the forenoon. The narration says that whichever of these two appears first, the other will follow soon after.

This is why the Beast should not be treated as an isolated story. It belongs to a stage near the end when signs come rapidly and the door of ordinary delay is closing. A believer should prepare before that stage, not wait until the unseen becomes visible.

We know that the Beast will come from the earth. We know that it will speak to people. We know that its emergence is a major sign before the Hour. We also know that it is connected closely with the rising of the sun from the west.

We do not know its exact shape, exact place of emergence, exact date, or detailed physical description from the Qur’an and the most authentic hadith. When Allah leaves details hidden, there is wisdom in that silence. Filling the silence with dramatic guesses does not make a lesson stronger; it only makes it shakier.

The Beast of the Earth is often turned into a theatre of wild pictures, secret maps, and borrowed end-times myths. A Muslim does not need that fog machine. The Qur’an and authentic Sunnah are enough.
