Sunnah in Daily Life

إِنَّمَا الْأَعْمَالُ بِالنِّيَّاتِ

Innamal-a'malu bin-niyyat.

Actions are judged by intentions. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 1.

Before work, study, service, family care, charity, or worship, correct the heart and intend Allah’s pleasure.

لَّقَدْ كَانَ لَكُمْ فِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ

Laqad kana lakum fi Rasulillahi uswatun hasanah.

In the Messenger of Allah you have an excellent example. Source: Quran 33:21.

Apply Sunnah as a full way of life: worship, mercy, family, speech, work, humility, and patience.

قُلْ إِن كُنتُمْ تُحِبُّونَ اللَّهَ فَاتَّبِعُونِي

Qul in kuntum tuhibbunallaha fattabi'uni.

Say: If you love Allah, then follow me. Source: Quran 3:31.

Do not treat Sunnah as decoration. Let love for Allah show through following the Prophet ﷺ.

وَمَا آتَاكُمُ الرَّسُولُ فَخُذُوهُ

Wa ma atakumur-Rasulu fakhudhuhu.

Whatever the Messenger gives you, take it. Source: Quran 59:7.

When an authentic Sunnah is clear, accept it humbly and apply it with knowledge.

مَنْ أَطَاعَنِي دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ

Man ata'ani dakhalal-jannah.

Whoever obeys me will enter Paradise. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 7280.

Treat Prophetic guidance as mercy and protection, not as a burden.

فَإِنِّي أُصَلِّي وَأَنَامُ، وَأَصُومُ وَأُفْطِرُ، وَأَتَزَوَّجُ النِّسَاءَ

Fa inni usalli wa anam, wa asumu wa uftir, wa atazawwajun-nisa.

I pray and sleep, fast and break my fast, and marry women. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 5063.

Follow balance. Do not use worship to destroy your body, home, marriage, or people’s rights.

مَا خُيِّرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ بَيْنَ أَمْرَيْنِ إِلَّا أَخَذَ أَيْسَرَهُمَا مَا لَمْ يَكُنْ إِثْمًا

Ma khuyyira Rasulullahi bayna amrayni illa akhadha aysarahuma ma lam yakun ithma.

When given a choice, the Prophet ﷺ chose the easier option as long as it was not sinful. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 3560.

Do not make religion unnecessarily harsh. Choose ease when it remains within halal.

أَحَبُّ الْأَعْمَالِ إِلَى اللَّهِ أَدْوَمُهَا وَإِنْ قَلَّ

Ahabbul-a'mali ilallahi adwamuha wa in qalla.

The most beloved deeds to Allah are those done regularly, even if small. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 6464.

Choose a small Sunnah and practise it consistently instead of starting many and abandoning them.

إِنِّي لَأَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ فِي الْيَوْمِ مِائَةَ مَرَّةٍ

Inni la astaghfirullaha fil-yawmi mi'ata marrah.

I seek Allah’s forgiveness one hundred times a day. Source: Sahih Muslim 2702.

Make seeking forgiveness part of daily life, not only after major sins.

مَنْ أَحْدَثَ فِي أَمْرِنَا هَذَا مَا لَيْسَ فِيهِ فَهُوَ رَدٌّ

Man ahdatha fi amrina hadha ma laysa fihi fahuwa radd.

Whoever introduces into this matter of ours what is not from it, it is rejected. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 2697; Sahih Muslim 1718.

Do not call customs or invented acts Sunnah without proof.

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ

Alhamdu lillahil-ladhi ahyana ba'da ma amatana wa ilayhin-nushur.

All praise is for Allah who gave us life after causing us to die, and to Him is the resurrection. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 6312.

Begin the day with gratitude and awareness of resurrection before the phone or worries.

بِاسْمِكَ اللَّهُمَّ أَمُوتُ وَأَحْيَا

Bismika Allahumma amutu wa ahya.

In Your name, O Allah, I die and I live. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 6312.

End the day with Allah’s name, tawbah, and awareness that sleep resembles a small death.

إِذَا أَتَيْتَ مَضْجَعَكَ فَتَوَضَّأْ وُضُوءَكَ لِلصَّلَاةِ

Idha atayta madja'aka fatawadda' wudu'aka lis-salah.

When you come to your bed, perform wudu as you do for prayer. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 6311.

Prepare for sleep as a servant returning to Allah, not as a heedless collapse.

ثُمَّ اضْطَجِعْ عَلَى شِقِّكَ الْأَيْمَنِ

Thumma idtaji' 'ala shiqqikal-ayman.

Then lie on your right side. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 6311.

Adopt the Prophetic sleeping posture when able.

فَلْيَنْفُضْ فِرَاشَهُ بِدَاخِلَةِ إِزَارِهِ

Falyanfud firashahu bidakhilati izarih.

Let him dust his bed with the inside of his garment. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 6320.

Take practical protection and remember that Sunnah includes small safety habits.

اللَّهُ لَا إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ

Allahu la ilaha illa Huwal-Hayyul-Qayyum.

Allah, there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer. Source: Quran 2:255; virtue reported in Sahih al-Bukhari 2311.

Seek Allah’s protection before sleep through Ayat al-Kursi.

آمَنَ الرَّسُولُ بِمَا أُنزِلَ إِلَيْهِ مِن رَّبِّهِ

Amanar-Rasulu bima unzila ilayhi mir-Rabbih.

The Messenger believes in what was revealed to him from his Lord. Source: Quran 2:285; virtue in Sahih al-Bukhari 5009.

Keep the night connected to Qur’an and reliance on Allah.

قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ

Qul huwa Allahu ahad.

Say: He is Allah, One. Source: Quran 112:1; practice reported in Sahih al-Bukhari 5017.

Recite the three Quls, blow into the hands, and wipe the body as reported.

إِنَّ هَذِهِ ضِجْعَةٌ يُبْغِضُهَا اللَّهُ

Inna hadhihi dij'atun yubghiduha Allah.

This is a lying posture Allah dislikes. Source: Sunan Abi Dawud 5040.

Avoid sleeping on the stomach when you remember and are able.

هَلْ مِنْ سَائِلٍ فَأُعْطِيَهُ، هَلْ مِنْ دَاعٍ فَأَسْتَجِيبَ لَهُ

Hal min sa'ilin fa u'tiyah, hal min da'in fa astajiba lah.

Is there anyone asking so I may give him? Is there anyone calling so I may answer him? Source: Sahih Muslim 758.

Use the last part of night for dua, forgiveness, and private worship.

إِذَا دَخَلَ الرَّجُلُ بَيْتَهُ فَذَكَرَ اللَّهَ

Idha dakhalar-rajulu baytahu fa dhakarallah.

When a man enters his house and remembers Allah, shaytan has no lodging there. Source: Sahih Muslim 2018.

Enter home with dhikr so the home begins with remembrance.

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ

Bismillahi tawakkaltu 'alallah, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah.

In Allah’s name, I rely on Allah, and there is no power nor strength except through Allah. Source: Sunan Abi Dawud 5095.

Leave home with tawakkul and then act responsibly and lawfully.

كَانَ يُعْجِبُهُ التَّيَمُّنُ فِي تَنَعُّلِهِ وَتَرَجُّلِهِ وَطُهُورِهِ

Kana yu'jibuhut-tayammunu fi tana'ulihi wa tarajjulihi wa tuhurih.

He liked beginning with the right in wearing shoes, combing, and purification. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 168.

Use the right side for honourable actions such as dressing, shoes, and wudu.

وَلَا يَتَمَسَّحْ مِنَ الْخَلَاءِ بِيَمِينِهِ

Wa la yatamassah minal-khala'i biyaminih.

He should not clean himself after relieving himself with his right hand. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 153.

Keep adab even in private hygiene.

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخُبُثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-khubuthi wal-khaba'ith.

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from male and female devils. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 142.

Seek Allah’s protection before entering a place of impurity.

لَا تَسْتَقْبِلُوا الْقِبْلَةَ بِغَائِطٍ وَلَا بَوْلٍ

La tastaqbilul-qiblata bigha'itin wa la bawl.

Do not face the qiblah while relieving yourselves. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 144; Sahih Muslim 264.

Observe this especially in open spaces and learn the fiqh details from scholars.

الطُّهُورُ شَطْرُ الْإِيمَانِ

At-tuhuru shatrul-iman.

Purity is half of faith. Source: Sahih Muslim 223.

Treat cleanliness as part of worship, not only appearance.

فَاغْسِلُوا وُجُوهَكُمْ وَأَيْدِيَكُمْ إِلَى الْمَرَافِقِ

Faghsilu wujuhakum wa aydiyakum ilal-marafiq.

Wash your faces and your arms to the elbows. Source: Quran 5:6, relevant part.

Make wudu calmly and completely before Salah.

وَيْلٌ لِلْأَعْقَابِ مِنَ النَّارِ

Waylun lil-a'qabi minan-nar.

Woe to the heels from the Fire. Source: Sahih Muslim 241.

Do not rush wudu in a way that leaves limbs unwashed.

لَوْلَا أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَى أُمَّتِي لَأَمَرْتُهُمْ بِالسِّوَاكِ عِنْدَ كُلِّ صَلَاةٍ

Lawla an ashuqqa 'ala ummati la amartuhum bis-siwaki 'inda kulli salah.

Were it not difficult for my Ummah, I would have commanded them to use miswak at every prayer. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 887.

Keep the mouth clean, especially for Salah and Qur’an.

وَكُلُوا وَاشْرَبُوا وَلَا تُسْرِفُوا

Wa kulu washrabu wa la tusrifu.

Eat and drink, but do not be excessive. Source: Quran 7:31.

Use water carefully even while worshipping.

غُسْلُ يَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ وَاجِبٌ عَلَى كُلِّ مُحْتَلِمٍ

Ghuslu yawmil-jumu'ati wajibun 'ala kulli muhtalim.

Ghusl on Friday is strongly emphasised for every adult male. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 879.

Prepare for Jumu'ah with cleanliness and respect.

خَمْسٌ مِنَ الْفِطْرَةِ

Khamsun minal-fitrah.

Five acts are from the fitrah. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 5891; Sahih Muslim 257.

Maintain nails, unwanted hair, and bodily cleanliness according to Sunnah.

وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرْ

Wa thiyabaka fatahhir.

And purify your garments. Source: Quran 74:4.

Keep clothing clean and modest, especially for worship.

يَا غُلَامُ سَمِّ اللَّهَ

Ya ghulam, sammillah.

O boy, mention Allah’s name. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 5376.

Begin food with Allah’s name, not heedless hunger.

وَكُلْ بِيَمِينِكَ

Wa kul biyaminik.

Eat with your right hand. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 5376.

Use the right hand for eating unless genuinely unable.

وَكُلْ مِمَّا يَلِيكَ

Wa kul mimma yalik.

Eat from what is near you. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 5376.

Show manners around shared food and avoid greed.

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ أَوَّلَهُ وَآخِرَهُ

Bismillahi awwalahu wa akhirah.

In the name of Allah at its beginning and end. Source: Sunan Abi Dawud 3767.

If you forgot at the start, remember Allah when you realise.

مَا عَابَ النَّبِيُّ طَعَامًا قَطُّ

Ma 'aban-Nabiyyu ta'aman qatt.

The Prophet ﷺ never criticised food. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 5409.

If you like food, eat. If not, leave it respectfully.

إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَيَرْضَى عَنِ الْعَبْدِ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ الْأَكْلَةَ فَيَحْمَدَهُ عَلَيْهَا

Innallaha layarda 'anil-'abdi an ya'kulal-aklata fayahmadahu 'alayha.

Allah is pleased when His servant eats and praises Him for it. Source: Sahih Muslim 2734.

End meals with gratitude, not entitlement.

فَلَا يَمْسَحْ يَدَهُ حَتَّى يَلْعَقَهَا

Fa la yamsah yadahu hatta yal'aqaha.

He should not wipe his hand until he licks it. Source: Sahih Muslim 2031.

Avoid waste and respect the blessing of food.

طَعَامُ الْوَاحِدِ يَكْفِي الِاثْنَيْنِ

Ta'amul-wahidi yakfil-ithnayn.

Food for one is enough for two. Source: Sahih Muslim 2059.

Share food and trust Allah’s blessing.

لَا يَأْكُلَنَّ أَحَدُكُمْ بِشِمَالِهِ

La ya'kulanna ahadukum bishimalih.

None of you should eat with his left hand. Source: Sahih Muslim 2020.

Follow the Prophetic adab and avoid careless habits.

نَهَى أَنْ يُتَنَفَّسَ فِي الْإِنَاءِ

Naha an yutanuffasa fil-ina'.

He forbade breathing into the vessel. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 5630.

Drink with hygiene and manners.

لَا تَشْرَبُوا فِي آنِيَةِ الذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ

La tashrabu fi aniyatidh-dhahabi wal-fiddah.

Do not drink from vessels of gold and silver. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 5633.

Avoid forbidden luxury and arrogance.

كُلُوا مِمَّا فِي الْأَرْضِ حَلَالًا طَيِّبًا

Kulu mimma fil-ardi halalan tayyiba.

Eat from what is on earth that is lawful and good. Source: Quran 2:168.

Check food, income, ingredients, and what enters the home.

وَلَا تُسْرِفُوا

Wa la tusrifu.

Do not be excessive. Source: Quran 7:31.

Eat and drink with gratitude, not waste.

غَطُّوا الْإِنَاءَ وَأَوْكُوا السِّقَاءَ

Ghattul-ina'a wa awkus-siqa'.

Cover vessels and tie waterskins. Source: Sahih Muslim 2012.

Take practical precautions with Allah’s name.

فَلْيَقُلْ خَيْرًا أَوْ لِيَصْمُتْ

Falyaqul khayran aw liyasmut.

Let him speak good or remain silent. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 6018.

Before speaking or posting, ask if it is true, useful, and pleasing to Allah.

أَفْشُوا السَّلَامَ بَيْنَكُمْ

Afshus-salama baynakum.

Spread salam among yourselves. Source: Sahih Muslim 54a.

Use salam to build love and humility.

فَحَيُّوا بِأَحْسَنَ مِنْهَا أَوْ رُدُّوهَا

Fahayyu bi-ahsana minha aw rudduha.

Respond with a better greeting or return it equally. Source: Quran 4:86.

Do not ignore greetings or reply coldly without reason.

إِذَا عَطَسَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَقُلِ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ

Idha 'atasa ahadukum falyaqul alhamdulillah.

When one of you sneezes, let him say: Alhamdulillah. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 6224.

Turn small moments into remembrance.

يَرْحَمُكَ اللَّهُ

Yarhamukallah.

May Allah have mercy on you. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 6224.

Make ordinary interaction a dua for mercy.

عَلَيْكُمْ بِالصِّدْقِ

'Alaykum bis-sidq.

You must be truthful. Source: Sahih Muslim 2607.

Choose truth even when lying looks profitable.

وَإِيَّاكُمْ وَالْكَذِبَ

Wa iyyakum wal-kadhib.

Beware of lying. Source: Sahih Muslim 2607.

Protect the tongue from lies, exaggeration, and fake claims.

اجْتَنِبُوا كَثِيرًا مِّنَ الظَّنِّ

Ijtanibu kathiran minaz-zann.

Avoid much suspicion. Source: Quran 49:12.

Do not build judgments on assumptions, screenshots, and gossip.

لَا يَسْخَرْ قَوْمٌ مِّن قَوْمٍ

La yaskhar qawmun min qawm.

Let not one group mock another. Source: Quran 49:11.

Do not use humour to humiliate.

وَاغْضُضْ مِن صَوْتِكَ

Waghdud min sawtik.

Lower your voice. Source: Quran 31:19.

Avoid arrogant, loud, and harsh speech.

لَا تَغْضَبْ

La taghdab.

Do not become angry. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 6116.

Pause, seek refuge with Allah, and do not act while anger is ruling.

لَيْسَ الشَّدِيدُ بِالصُّرَعَةِ

Laysash-shadidu bis-sura'ah.

The strong one is not the wrestler. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 6114.

Measure strength by controlling anger, not overpowering people.

وَالْكَاظِمِينَ الْغَيْظَ وَالْعَافِينَ عَنِ النَّاسِ

Wal-kaziminal-ghayza wal-'afina 'anin-nas.

Those who restrain anger and pardon people. Source: Quran 3:134.

Forgive where it does not enable oppression.

الْكَلِمَةُ الطَّيِّبَةُ صَدَقَةٌ

Al-kalimatut-tayyibatu sadaqah.

A good word is charity. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 2989.

Use words to heal, encourage, and guide.

تَبَسُّمُكَ فِي وَجْهِ أَخِيكَ لَكَ صَدَقَةٌ

Tabassumuka fi wajhi akhika laka sadaqah.

Your smile to your brother is charity. Source: Jami at-Tirmidhi 1956.

Let Sunnah make you pleasant, not harsh.

خَيْرُكُمْ خَيْرُكُمْ لِأَهْلِهِ

Khayrukum khayrukum li ahlih.

The best of you are the best to their families. Source: Jami at-Tirmidhi 3895.

Let Sunnah appear at home through mercy, apology, service, and fairness.

كَانَ يَكُونُ فِي مِهْنَةِ أَهْلِهِ

Kana yakunu fi mihnati ahlih.

He used to serve his family. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 676.

Help at home and do not treat service as beneath you.

فَلْيَصِلْ رَحِمَهُ

Falyasil rahimah.

Let him maintain family ties. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 6138.

Call, visit, help, and repair ties without enabling abuse.

وَبِالْوَالِدَيْنِ إِحْسَانًا

Wa bil-walidayni ihsana.

Show excellence to parents. Source: Quran 17:23.

Speak gently, serve, support, and make dua for them.

رَبِّ ارْحَمْهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِي صَغِيرًا

Rabbi irhamhuma kama rabbayani saghira.

My Lord, have mercy on them as they raised me when I was small. Source: Quran 17:24.

Include parents in daily dua.

أُمُّكَ ثُمَّ أُمُّكَ ثُمَّ أُمُّكَ ثُمَّ أَبُوكَ

Ummuka thumma ummuka thumma ummuka thumma abuk.

Your mother, then your mother, then your mother, then your father. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 5971.

Give the mother extra honour, service, patience, and kindness.

قُوا أَنفُسَكُمْ وَأَهْلِيكُمْ نَارًا

Qu anfusakum wa ahlikum nara.

Protect yourselves and your families from a Fire. Source: Quran 66:6.

Teach faith, Salah, adab, halal, and akhirah at home.

مَنْ لَا يَرْحَمْ لَا يُرْحَمْ

Man la yarham la yurham.

Whoever does not show mercy will not be shown mercy. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 5997.

Discipline with mercy, not humiliation.

لَيْسَ مِنَّا مَنْ لَمْ يَرْحَمْ صَغِيرَنَا وَيُوَقِّرْ كَبِيرَنَا

Laysa minna man lam yarham saghirana wa yuwaqqir kabirana.

He is not from us who does not show mercy to our young and honour our elders. Source: Jami at-Tirmidhi 1921.

Build family and community adab.

مَا زَالَ يُوصِينِي جِبْرِيلُ بِالْجَارِ

Ma zala yusini Jibrilu bil-jar.

Jibril kept advising me about the neighbour. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 6014.

Protect neighbours from noise, gossip, harm, and arrogance.

لَا يَأْمَنُ جَارُهُ بَوَائِقَهُ

La ya'manu jaruhu bawa'iqah.

His neighbour is not safe from his harm. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 6016.

Make your home safe for those around you.

فَلْيُكْرِمْ ضَيْفَهُ

Fal-yukrim dayfah.

Let him honour his guest. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 6136.

Host with dignity without showing off.

وَعُودُوا الْمَرِيضَ

Wa 'udul-marid.

Visit the sick. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 5649.

Call, visit, help, and make dua for the sick.

أَطْعِمُوا الْجَائِعَ

At'immut-ja'i'.

Feed the hungry. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 5649.

Turn sympathy into food, support, and sadaqah.

أَنَا وَكَافِلُ الْيَتِيمِ فِي الْجَنَّةِ هَكَذَا

Ana wa kafilul-yatimi fil-jannati hakadha.

I and the sponsor of an orphan will be in Paradise like this. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 6005.

Support orphans through reliable, dignified care.

إِنَّ الصَّلَاةَ كَانَتْ عَلَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ كِتَابًا مَّوْقُوتًا

Innas-salata kanat 'alal-mu'minina kitaban mawquta.

Prayer is prescribed for believers at fixed times. Source: Quran 4:103.

Let Salah structure the day before dunya takes over.

الصَّلَاةُ عَلَى وَقْتِهَا

As-salatu 'ala waqtihā.

Prayer at its time. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 527.

Treat on-time prayer as one of the best deeds.

صَلَاةُ الْجَمَاعَةِ تَفْضُلُ صَلَاةَ الْفَذِّ

Salatul-jama'ati tafdulu salatal-fadhdh.

Congregational prayer is superior to praying alone. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 645.

Men should value congregation where required and able.

سَوُّوا صُفُوفَكُمْ

Sawwu sufufakum.

Straighten your rows. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 723.

Bring order and unity into Salah.

مَا عَمِلْتُ عَمَلًا أَرْجَى عِنْدِي

Ma 'amiltu 'amalan arja 'indi.

Bilal رضي الله عنه mentioned praying after wudu as a deed he hoped in. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 1149.

Turn wudu into extra worship when possible.

مَا مِنْ عَبْدٍ مُسْلِمٍ يُصَلِّي لِلَّهِ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ ثِنْتَيْ عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً

Ma min 'abdin Muslimin yusalli lillahi kulla yawmin thintay 'ashrata rak'ah.

Whoever prays twelve voluntary rak'ahs daily, Allah builds for him a house in Paradise. Source: Sahih Muslim 728.

Protect the rawatib prayers around obligatory Salah.

رَكْعَتَا الْفَجْرِ خَيْرٌ مِّنَ الدُّنْيَا وَمَا فِيهَا

Rak'ata al-fajri khayrun minad-dunya wa ma fiha.

The two rak'ahs before Fajr are better than the world and what it contains. Source: Sahih Muslim 725.

Do not neglect the Sunnah before Fajr.

اجْعَلُوا آخِرَ صَلَاتِكُمْ بِاللَّيْلِ وِتْرًا

Ij'alu akhira salatikum bil-layli witra.

Make your last prayer at night Witr. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 998.

End night prayer with Witr where possible.

وَيُجْزِئُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ رَكْعَتَانِ يَرْكَعُهُمَا مِنَ الضُّحَى

Wa yujzi'u min dhalika rak'atani yarka'uhuma minad-duha.

Two rak'ahs of Duha suffice for that charity. Source: Sahih Muslim 720.

Use Duha as a simple daily act of gratitude.

تُسَبِّحُونَ وَتَحْمَدُونَ وَتُكَبِّرُونَ

Tusabbihuna wa tahmaduna wa tukabbirun.

Glorify, praise, and magnify Allah after prayer. Source: Sahih Muslim 597.

Do not rush away from Salah without remembrance.

إِذَا سَمِعْتُمُ الْمُؤَذِّنَ فَقُولُوا مِثْلَ مَا يَقُولُ

Idha sami'tumul-mu'adhdhina faqulu mithla ma yaqul.

When you hear the caller to prayer, say what he says. Source: Sahih Muslim 384.

Pause and respond to the adhan with attention.

إِنَّ اللَّهَ وَمَلَائِكَتَهُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ

Innallaha wa mala'ikatahu yusalluna 'alan-Nabi.

Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. Source: Quran 33:56.

Send salawat regularly, especially on Friday.

خَيْرُكُمْ مَنْ تَعَلَّمَ الْقُرْآنَ وَعَلَّمَهُ

Khayrukum man ta'allamal-Qur'ana wa 'allamah.

The best of you are those who learn the Qur’an and teach it. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 5027.

Keep Qur’an learning and teaching alive in the home.

اذْكُرُوا اللَّهَ ذِكْرًا كَثِيرًا

Udhkurullaha dhikran kathira.

Remember Allah with much remembrance. Source: Quran 33:41.

Fill empty moments with dhikr instead of heedlessness.

إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَأْمُرُكُمْ أَن تُؤَدُّوا الْأَمَانَاتِ إِلَىٰ أَهْلِهَا

Innallaha ya'murukum an tu'addul-amanati ila ahliha.

Allah commands you to return trusts to those entitled to them. Source: Quran 4:58.

Return money, property, secrets, duties, and responsibilities properly.

اعْدِلُوا هُوَ أَقْرَبُ لِلتَّقْوَىٰ

I'idilu huwa aqrabu lit-taqwa.

Be just. That is closer to taqwa. Source: Quran 5:8.

Do not let anger, family loyalty, or business rivalry cancel justice.

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَوْفُوا بِالْعُقُودِ

Ya ayyuhal-ladhina amanu awfu bil-'uqud.

O believers, fulfil contracts. Source: Quran 5:1.

Keep marriage, business, employment, and sales agreements.

وَأَوْفُوا بِالْعَهْدِ

Wa awfu bil-'ahd.

Fulfil the promise. Source: Quran 17:34.

Do not promise casually and then betray.

إِذَا تَدَايَنتُم بِدَيْنٍ إِلَىٰ أَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى فَاكْتُبُوهُ

Idha tadayantum bidaynin ila ajalin musamman faktubuh.

When you contract a debt for a fixed term, write it down. Source: Quran 2:282.

Document loans and payments to protect relationships and rights.

وَيْلٌ لِّلْمُطَفِّفِينَ

Waylun lil-mutaffifin.

Woe to those who give less. Source: Quran 83:1.

Do not reduce quality, weight, quantity, truth, or delivery.

وَأَحَلَّ اللَّهُ الْبَيْعَ وَحَرَّمَ الرِّبَا

Wa ahallallahu al-bay'a wa harramar-riba.

Allah permitted trade and forbade riba. Source: Quran 2:275.

Keep income away from interest-based oppression.

أَعْطُوا الْأَجِيرَ أَجْرَهُ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَجِفَّ عَرَقُهُ

A'tul-ajira ajrahu qabla an yajiffa 'araquh.

Give the worker his wage before his sweat dries. Source: Sunan Ibn Majah 2443.

Do not delay wages or exploit financial need.

رَحِمَ اللَّهُ رَجُلًا سَمْحًا إِذَا بَاعَ وَإِذَا اشْتَرَى

Rahimallahu rajulan samhan idha ba'a wa idhash-tara.

May Allah have mercy on a man who is easy-going when selling and buying. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 2076.

Be fair and gentle with customers, suppliers, and debtors.

يَسِّرُوا وَلَا تُعَسِّرُوا

Yassiru wa la tu'assiru.

Make things easy and do not make them hard. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 69.

Teach and deal with people through mercy, not unnecessary harshness.

وَأَمْرُهُمْ شُورَىٰ بَيْنَهُمْ

Wa amruhum shura baynahum.

Their affairs are decided by consultation among them. Source: Quran 42:38.

Do not make major decisions from ego alone.

وَتُمِيطُ الْأَذَى عَنِ الطَّرِيقِ صَدَقَةٌ

Wa tumitul-adha 'anit-tariqi sadaqah.

Removing harm from the road is charity. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 2989.

Make public spaces safer because of you.

فِي كُلِّ كَبِدٍ رَطْبَةٍ أَجْرٌ

Fi kulli kabidin ratbatin ajr.

There is reward for serving every living being. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 2363.

Feed, water, and treat animals with mercy.

دَخَلَتِ امْرَأَةٌ النَّارَ فِي هِرَّةٍ

Dakhalatimra'atun an-nara fi hirrah.

A woman entered the Fire because of a cat. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 3318.

Do not starve, trap, beat, terrify, or neglect animals.

مَا مِنْ مُسْلِمٍ يَغْرِسُ غَرْسًا

Ma min Muslimin yaghrisu gharsan.

No Muslim plants something except that what is eaten from it is charity for him. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 2320.

Plant, feed, and benefit creation for Allah’s reward.

اللَّهُمَّ افْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ

Allahummaftah li abwaba rahmatik.

O Allah, open for me the doors of Your mercy. Source: Sahih Muslim 713.

Enter the mosque with neediness for Allah’s mercy.

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ

Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik.

O Allah, I ask You from Your bounty. Source: Sahih Muslim 713.

Leave the mosque seeking halal bounty from Allah.

اتَّقُوا النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ

Ittaqun-nara wa law bishiqqi tamrah.

Protect yourselves from the Fire even with half a date. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 1417.

Never belittle a small charity.

الْمُسْلِمُ مَنْ سَلِمَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ مِنْ لِسَانِهِ وَيَدِهِ

Al-Muslimu man salimal-Muslimuna min lisanihi wa yadih.

The Muslim is one from whose tongue and hand Muslims are safe. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 10.

Let people be safe from your speech, posts, hands, power, and behaviour.
