Narrated by Zaid b. Arqam reported

We set out on a journey along with Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) in which we faced many hardships. 'Abdullah b. Ubayy said to his friends: Do not give what you have in your possession to those who are with Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) until they desert him. I came to Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) and informed him about that. The verse, 'When the hypocrites come' was then revealed attesting Zaid's truth.

Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) came to the grave of 'Abdullah b. Ubayy, brought him out, placed him on his knee, blew over him with a light breath containing some saliva, and shrouded him in his own shirt. Allah knows best.

When 'Abdullah b. Ubayy b. Salul died, his son asked Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) for his shirt to use as a shroud and asked him to conduct the funeral prayer. 'Umar objected, and then the verse forbidding prayer over them and standing at their graves was revealed.

Qais asked 'Ammar about his action in the matter of 'Ali. 'Ammar said they had no special covenant except that Hudhaifa told him the Prophet (ﷺ) had said there would be twelve hypocrites, eight of whom would not enter Paradise until the camel passes through the eye of the needle.

There was a dispute between Hudhaifa and a person from the people of Aqaba. Hudhaifa mentioned that they had been informed about fourteen, or fifteen if that man was counted among them, and testified that twelve of them were enemies of Allah and His Messenger (ﷺ).
