| ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ | Al-mujrimin | The criminal people. |

| كَيْفَ | Kayfa | How. |
| تَعْمَلُونَ | Ta‘malun | You act / work. |
Simple Explanation

Every generation receives time, place, ability, and responsibility. Allah sees what people do with what He gives them.

When Our clear verses are recited to them, those who do not expect the meeting with Us say, “Bring a Qur’an other than this, or change it.” Say, “It is not for me to change it on my own. I only follow what is revealed to me. Indeed, I fear, if I disobey my Lord, the punishment of a tremendous Day.”
Word-by-Word Meaning
| Arabic | Transliteration | Simple Meaning |

| يُوحَىٰٓ | Yuha | Is revealed. |
| أَخَافُ | Akhaf | I fear. |
| يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍۢ | Yawmin ‘azim | A tremendous Day. |
Simple Explanation
Those who did not believe in meeting Allah wanted revelation adjusted to their desires. They did not ask for truth; they asked for a version that would not challenge them.
The Prophet ﷺ was commanded to say that he could not change revelation from himself. He only followed what Allah revealed and feared disobeying his Lord.
What This Ayah Builds Inside You

|---|---|
| Submission to Revelation | You accept the Qur’an as Allah revealed it. |
| Protection from Desire | You do not ask religion to bend around your comfort. |

| Fear of Allah | You take disobedience seriously. |
| Truthfulness | You seek guidance, not a convenient replacement for it. |
Pause and Speak to Allah
A heart in love with comfort asks revelation to change. A heart in love with Allah asks itself to change.
Say in your heart: Ya Allah, make me follow Your Book as You revealed it, not as my desires want it.
قُل لَّوْ شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ مَا تَلَوْتُهُۥ عَلَيْكُمْ وَلَآ أَدْرَىٰكُم بِهِۦ ۖ فَقَدْ لَبِثْتُ فِيكُمْ عُمُرًۭا مِّن قَبْلِهِۦٓ ۚ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ

| فِيكُمْ | Fikum | Among you. |
| عُمُرًۭا | ‘Umura | A lifetime. |
| تَعْقِلُونَ | Ta‘qilun | You understand / use reason. |
Simple Explanation
The Prophet ﷺ reminds them that he lived among them before revelation. They knew his truthfulness, character, and life.
If the Qur’an were from himself, they would have seen signs of such invention earlier. But revelation came by Allah’s will, not human planning.

Say in your heart: Ya Allah, make me fair with truth and protect me from stubborn rejection.

| ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ | Al-mujrimun | The criminals / guilty ones. |
Simple Explanation
Allah says that inventing lies about Him and denying His verses are among the greatest injustices.
True success cannot be built on falsehood against Allah. A guilty path may look powerful for a while, but it does not end in success.

Say in your heart: Ya Allah, protect my tongue and belief from every lie against You.

They worship besides Allah what neither harms them nor benefits them, and they say, “These are our intercessors with Allah.” Say, “Are you informing Allah of something He does not know in the heavens or the earth?” Glory be to Him, and He is far above what they associate with Him.

| سُبْحَـٰنَهُۥ | Subhanahu | Glory be to Him. |
| يُشْرِكُونَ | Yushrikun | They associate partners. |
Simple Explanation
The disbelievers worshipped beings besides Allah and claimed they would intercede for them. But those objects had no independent power to harm or benefit.
Allah rejects their claim completely. No one can invent a partner or intercessor before Allah without His permission. Allah is far above shirk.
What This Ayah Builds Inside You

Mankind was once only one community, then they differed. If not for a word that had already gone forth from your Lord, judgment would have been made between them regarding what they differed over.
Word-by-Word Meaning
| Arabic | Transliteration | Simple Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| ٱلنَّاسُ | An-nas | Mankind / people. |
| أُمَّةًۭ | Ummah | A community. |

| لَقُضِىَ | Laqudiya | It would have been judged. |
| يَخْتَلِفُونَ | Yakhtalifun | They differ. |
Simple Explanation
People were originally one community, but differences and divisions came later. Allah could have judged between them immediately.
But Allah’s decree allowed time, testing, and wisdom to unfold. The delay of judgment is part of His plan, not a sign that truth and falsehood are equal.
What This Ayah Builds Inside You
| Inner Quality | How This Ayah Builds It |
|---|---|
| Awareness of Division | You understand that people may differ after clarity. |
| Trust in Allah’s Timing | You know Allah delays final judgment with wisdom. |

Difference among people does not weaken truth. It reveals who is searching for it sincerely.
Say in your heart: Ya Allah, guide me to truth when people differ.

| فَٱنتَظِرُوٓا۟ | Fantaziru | So wait. |
| ٱلْمُنتَظِرِينَ | Al-muntazirin | Those who wait. |
Simple Explanation
The disbelievers demanded a sign according to their own conditions. Allah teaches the Prophet ﷺ to say that the unseen belongs only to Allah.
People cannot control when and how Allah shows signs. Their demand is answered with patience, waiting, and trust in Allah’s wisdom.

Say in your heart: Ya Allah, give me patience with what is hidden and trust in Your timing.

| يَكْتُبُونَ | Yaktubun | They record. |
Simple Explanation

| يَتَفَكَّرُونَ | Yatafakkarun | They reflect deeply. |
Simple Explanation
Allah compares dunya to plants after rain: beautiful, full, and impressive, until suddenly it is cut down and looks as if it was never there.
This ayah teaches that worldly beauty is temporary. When people feel fully in control, Allah’s command can change everything in a moment.

Say in your heart: Ya Allah, do not let the beauty of this world deceive my heart.

Those who earn evil deeds will have the repayment of an evil deed equal to it, and humiliation will cover them. They will have no protector from Allah. It will be as if their faces are covered with pieces of dark night. Those are the companions of the Fire; they will remain there forever.

| خَـٰلِدُونَ | Khalidun | Remaining forever. |
Simple Explanation
Allah contrasts the people of goodness with those who earned evil. Evil is repaid with justice, not unfairness, and humiliation covers those who persist in it.
No one can protect a person from Allah’s judgment. The image of faces covered by dark night shows the deep disgrace of rejecting guidance.

|---|---|---|
| يَوْمَ | Yawma | The Day. |
| نَحْشُرُهُمْ | Nahshuruhum | We gather them. |

| فَزَيَّلْنَا | Fazayyalna | Then We separated. |
| تَعْبُدُونَ | Ta‘budun | You used to worship. |
Simple Explanation

Those worshipped besides Allah will disown the worshippers. What seemed like support in dunya will become separation and denial in the Hereafter.

| عِبَادَتِكُمْ | ‘Ibadatikum | Your worship. |
| لَغَـٰفِلِينَ | Laghafilin | Surely unaware. |

The false partners will call Allah as witness and deny responsibility for the worship directed toward them.
This exposes the emptiness of shirk. The ones people depended on will not own the worship, defend it, or save the worshippers.

Anything worshipped besides Allah becomes a stranger when the scales are brought near.
Say in your heart: Ya Allah, make You enough for me as witness, protector, and Lord.

| يَفْتَرُونَ | Yaftarun | They used to invent / fabricate. |
Simple Explanation
On the Day of Judgment, every soul will face what it sent ahead through belief, disbelief, obedience, and sin.
All false claims will disappear. Everyone returns to Allah, the true Master, and only truth remains.
What This Ayah Builds Inside You
| Inner Quality | How This Ayah Builds It |
|---|---|
| Accountability | You remember every soul will face what it sent ahead. |
| Preparation | You focus on sending good deeds before you. |
| Truthfulness | You avoid invented beliefs and false claims. |
| Tawheed | You know Allah is the true Master. |
| Hereafter Awareness | You live with the return to Allah in view. |

Say, “Who provides for you from the heaven and the earth? Who controls hearing and sight? Who brings the living out of the dead and brings the dead out of the living? Who manages every affair?” They will say, “Allah.” So say, “Will you not then have taqwa?”
Word-by-Word Meaning
| Arabic | Transliteration | Simple Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| يَرْزُقُكُم | Yarzuqukum | He provides for you. |
| ٱلسَّمَآءِ | As-sama’ | The heaven / sky. |

| يُدَبِّرُ | Yudabbir | He manages / arranges. |
| تَتَّقُونَ | Tattaqun | You have taqwa / fear Allah. |
Simple Explanation
Allah asks the Prophet ﷺ to question the people about who truly provides, controls hearing and sight, gives life, causes death, and manages every affair.
They already know the answer is Allah. The problem is not lack of evidence, but lack of taqwa. If Allah is the Provider and Controller, worship and obedience must belong to Him alone.
What This Ayah Builds Inside You
| Inner Quality | How This Ayah Builds It |
|---|---|
| Tawheed | You recognize Allah as the only Provider and Controller. |
| Taqwa | You let that recognition create obedience and fear of Allah. |
| Gratitude | You thank Allah for hearing, sight, life, and provision. |
| Trust | You rely on the One who manages every affair. |
| Self-Honesty | You ask whether your actions match what you already know is true. |
Pause and Speak to Allah
The heart already knows its Provider. Taqwa begins when life finally follows that knowledge.
Say in your heart: Ya Allah, make me live by the truth that You provide, control, and manage everything.
فَذَٰلِكُمُ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّكُمُ ٱلْحَقُّ ۖ فَمَاذَا بَعْدَ ٱلْحَقِّ إِلَّا ٱلضَّلَـٰلُ ۖ فَأَنَّىٰ تُصْرَفُونَ
Fadhalikumullahu rabbukumul-haqq. Famadha ba‘dal-haqqi illad-dalal. Fa anna tusrafun.
That is Allah, your true Lord. So what is there after truth except misguidance? Then how are you turned away?

| Arabic | Transliteration | Simple Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| ذَٰلِكُمُ | Dhalikum | That is. |
| ٱللَّهُ | Allah | Allah. |

| بَعْدَ | Ba‘da | After. |
| ٱلضَّلَـٰلُ | Ad-dalal | Misguidance / error. |
| تُصْرَفُونَ | Tusrafun | You are turned away. |
Simple Explanation
After proving that Allah alone provides and controls everything, Allah declares that He is the true Lord.
Once truth is clear, turning away from it is not another valid path. It is misguidance. The ayah asks how people can be turned away after seeing such clear truth.
What This Ayah Builds Inside You
| Inner Quality | How This Ayah Builds It |
|---|---|
| Certainty | You know Allah is the true Lord. |
| Clarity | You distinguish truth from misguidance. |
| Steadfastness | You do not turn away after truth becomes clear. |
| Self-Protection | You guard your heart from forces that pull it from guidance. |

كَذَٰلِكَ حَقَّتْ كَلِمَتُ رَبِّكَ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ فَسَقُوٓا۟ أَنَّهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ
Kadhalika haqqat kalimatu rabbika ‘alal-ladhina fasaqu annahum la yu’minun.
In this way, the word of your Lord became true against those who defiantly disobeyed: that they will not believe.

|---|---|---|
| حَقَّتْ | Haqqat | Became true / became binding. |
| كَلِمَتُ | Kalimat | The word / decree. |

| فَسَقُوٓا۟ | Fasaqu | They defiantly disobeyed. |
| لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ | La yu’minun | They will not believe. |
Simple Explanation
When people repeatedly choose defiance, rejection, and rebellion, Allah’s decree becomes true against them.
This ayah warns that disbelief is not always because evidence is missing. Sometimes the heart has chosen disobedience so often that belief no longer enters easily.
What This Ayah Builds Inside You
| Inner Quality | How This Ayah Builds It |
|---|---|
| Fear of Defiance | You avoid repeated disobedience that hardens the heart. |
| Urgent Repentance | You return before rejection becomes settled. |

| Humility | You ask Allah to keep belief alive within you. |
| Seriousness | You understand that persistent sin can damage faith. |
Pause and Speak to Allah
A heart does not become locked in one moment. It often closes by choosing the wrong door again and again.
Say in your heart: Ya Allah, protect my heart from defiance and keep me open to iman.
قُلْ هَلْ مِن شُرَكَآئِكُم مَّن يَبْدَؤُا۟ ٱلْخَلْقَ ثُمَّ يُعِيدُهُۥ ۚ قُلِ ٱللَّهُ يَبْدَؤُا۟ ٱلْخَلْقَ ثُمَّ يُعِيدُهُۥ ۖ فَأَنَّىٰ تُؤْفَكُونَ

| تُؤْفَكُونَ | Tu’fakun | You are turned away / deluded. |
Simple Explanation
Allah challenges the false partners: can any of them create life from nothing and then bring it back after death?
The answer is clear: only Allah begins creation and returns it. Resurrection is easy for the One who created the first time.

Say, “Are there any of your partners who guide to the truth?” Say, “Allah guides to the truth. Is the One who guides to the truth more worthy to be followed, or one who cannot guide unless he is guided? What is wrong with you? How do you judge?”

Say in your heart: Ya Allah, guide me to truth and make me follow what You love.

| Certainty in Qur’an | You believe the Qur’an is from Allah. |
| Respect for Revelation | You treat the Qur’an as divine guidance, not human speech. |
| Trust | You rely on the Book that has no doubt in it. |
| Love of Learning | You seek the detailed guidance Allah has revealed. |
| Submission | You let the Lord of the worlds guide your life through His Book. |
Pause and Speak to Allah
The Qur’an is not a voice from earth trying to reach heaven. It is guidance from heaven reaching earth.
Say in your heart: Ya Allah, make me certain in Your Book and guided by its light.
أَمْ يَقُولُونَ ٱفْتَرَىٰهُ ۖ قُلْ فَأْتُوا۟ بِسُورَةٍۢ مِّثْلِهِۦ وَٱدْعُوا۟ مَنِ ٱسْتَطَعْتُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ
Am yaqulunaf-tarah. Qul fa’tu bisuratim mithlihi wad‘u manistata‘tum min dunillahi in kuntum sadiqin.
Or do they say, “He invented it”? Say, “Then bring a surah like it, and call upon whoever you can besides Allah, if you are truthful.”
Word-by-Word Meaning
| Arabic | Transliteration | Simple Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| يَقُولُونَ | Yaqulun | They say. |
| ٱفْتَرَىٰهُ | Iftarah | He invented it. |
| فَأْتُوا۟ | Fa’tu | Then bring. |
| بِسُورَةٍۢ | Bisurah | A surah. |
| مِّثْلِهِۦ | Mithlih | Like it. |

| ٱسْتَطَعْتُم | Istata‘tum | You are able. |
| صَـٰدِقِينَ | Sadiqin | Truthful. |
Simple Explanation
Those who accused the Prophet ﷺ of inventing the Qur’an are challenged to produce even one surah like it.
This challenge exposes the weakness of their accusation. If they were truthful, they could bring something like it, with all the help they could gather besides Allah.
What This Ayah Builds Inside You

| Confidence in Qur’an | You know the Qur’an cannot be matched by human effort. |

| Intellectual Honesty | You do not make claims you cannot support. |
| Faith | You trust the divine source of the Qur’an. |
Pause and Speak to Allah
The Qur’an does not fear challenge. It stands like a mountain while accusations scatter like dust.
Say in your heart: Ya Allah, strengthen my certainty in the miracle of Your Book.
Kadhalika kadhdhabal-ladhina min qablihim. Fanzur kayfa kana ‘aqibatuz-zalimin.
Rather, they denied what they did not fully comprehend, and its interpretation had not yet come to them. In this way, those before them also denied. So look at how the end of the wrongdoers was.
Word-by-Word Meaning
| Arabic | Transliteration | Simple Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| كَذَّبُوا۟ | Kadhdhabu | They denied. |
| لَمْ يُحِيطُوا۟ | Lam yuhitu | They did not encompass / fully comprehend. |

| عَـٰقِبَةُ | ‘Aqibah | End / outcome. |
| ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ | Az-zalimin | The wrongdoers. |
Simple Explanation
They rejected the Qur’an before truly understanding it and before seeing the full outcome of its warnings and promises.
This pattern happened before with earlier nations. Rejecting truth because one has not understood it fully is dangerous arrogance, not wisdom.

| Fear of Wrongdoing | You know denial after arrogance has consequences. |
| Open-Hearted Reflection | You seek understanding before judgment. |
Pause and Speak to Allah
Rejecting truth before understanding it is closing the door before seeing who knocked.
Say in your heart: Ya Allah, give me humility to learn before I judge.
وَمِنْهُم مَّن يُؤْمِنُ بِهِۦ وَمِنْهُم مَّن لَّا يُؤْمِنُ بِهِۦ ۚ وَرَبُّكَ أَعْلَمُ بِٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ
Wa minhum may yu’minu bihi wa minhum man la yu’minu bih. Wa rabbuka a‘lamu bil-mufsidin.
Among them are those who believe in it, and among them are those who do not believe in it. Your Lord knows best the corrupters.
Word-by-Word Meaning

| أَعْلَمُ | A‘lam | Knows best. |
| ٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ | Al-mufsidin | The corrupters. |
Simple Explanation
People respond differently to the Qur’an. Some believe in it, while others reject it.
Allah knows who is sincere and who spreads corruption. The Prophet ﷺ is not responsible for forcing belief into hearts; Allah knows the inner reality of every person.

The Qur’an enters some hearts as light, while others close their doors and call the darkness normal.
Say in your heart: Ya Allah, make me among those who believe in Your Book and protect me from corruption.

Word-by-Word Meaning
| Arabic | Transliteration | Simple Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| كَذَّبُوكَ | Kadhdhabuka | They deny you. |

| أَعْمَلُ | A‘malu | I do / I work. |
| تَعْمَلُونَ | Ta‘malun | You do / you work. |
Simple Explanation
Allah teaches the Prophet ﷺ how to respond when people keep rejecting the message. He is not responsible for forcing belief into them.
Each person carries the responsibility of their own deeds. The believer delivers truth clearly, then leaves final judgment to Allah.

Say in your heart: Ya Allah, make my deeds sincere and protect me from carrying what is not mine to carry.
وَمِنْهُم مَّن يَسْتَمِعُونَ إِلَيْكَ ۚ أَفَأَنتَ تُسْمِعُ ٱلصُّمَّ وَلَوْ كَانُوا۟ لَا يَعْقِلُونَ
Wa minhum may yastami‘una ilayk. Afa anta tusmi‘us-summa wa law kanu la ya‘qilun.
Among them are those who listen to you. But can you make the deaf hear, even if they do not understand?
Word-by-Word Meaning
| Arabic | Transliteration | Simple Meaning |

| ٱلصُّمَّ | As-summ | The deaf. |
| يَعْقِلُونَ | Ya‘qilun | They understand / use reason. |
Simple Explanation
Some people physically listened to the Prophet ﷺ, but their hearts did not truly hear the guidance.
Hearing sounds is not the same as accepting truth. If the heart refuses understanding, even the clearest message may not enter.

| يَنظُرُ | Yanzur | He looks. |
| إِلَيْكَ | Ilayk | At you. |
| تَهْدِى | Tahdi | You guide. |
| ٱلْعُمْىَ | Al-‘umya | The blind. |
| يُبْصِرُونَ | Yubsirun | They see. |
Simple Explanation
Some looked at the Prophet ﷺ and saw him physically, yet they did not see the truth of his message.
Real sight is not only eyesight. It is the heart’s ability to recognize guidance. Without Allah’s help, a person may look directly at truth and still miss it.

| أَنفُسَهُمْ | Anfusahum | Their own selves. |
| يَظْلِمُونَ | Yazlimun | They wrong. |
Simple Explanation
Allah is perfectly just. He does not wrong anyone even by the smallest amount.
When people reject guidance, ignore truth, or choose sin, they harm themselves. The loss comes from their own choices, not from injustice by Allah.

| يَفْعَلُونَ | Yaf‘alun | They do. |
Simple Explanation

| صَـٰدِقِينَ | Sadiqin | Truthful ones. |
Simple Explanation
The disbelievers mockingly ask when Allah’s promised punishment or judgment will come.
Their question is not sincere seeking. It is challenge and arrogance. They think delay means the promise is not real.

| يَسْتَقْدِمُونَ | Yastaqdimun | They bring forward. |
Simple Explanation
The Prophet ﷺ is commanded to say that even he does not control harm or benefit for himself except by Allah’s will.
Every nation has an appointed time. When Allah’s decree arrives, no one can delay it or bring it forward by even an hour.

قُلْ أَرَءَيْتُمْ إِنْ أَتَىٰكُمْ عَذَابُهُۥ بَيَـٰتًا أَوْ نَهَارًۭا مَّاذَا يَسْتَعْجِلُ مِنْهُ ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ
Qul ara’aytum in atakum ‘adhabuhu bayatan aw naharan madha yasta‘jilu minhul-mujrimun.
Say, “Have you considered: if His punishment comes to you by night or by day, what part of it are the criminals trying to hasten?”
Word-by-Word Meaning
| Arabic | Transliteration | Simple Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| أَرَءَيْتُمْ | Ara’aytum | Have you considered? |
| أَتَىٰكُمْ | Atakum | It comes to you. |

| بَيَـٰتًا | Bayatan | By night. |

| يَسْتَعْجِلُ | Yasta‘jil | He tries to hasten. |
| ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ | Al-mujrimun | The criminals / guilty ones. |
Simple Explanation
Allah questions those who mockingly rush punishment. If it came suddenly by night or day, what benefit would there be in rushing it?
This ayah exposes the foolishness of daring Allah’s warning. A wise person seeks mercy before punishment arrives, not speed in receiving it.
What This Ayah Builds Inside You

| Fear of Suddenness | You remember punishment can come unexpectedly. |

أَثُمَّ إِذَا مَا وَقَعَ ءَامَنتُم بِهِۦٓ ۚ ءَآلْـَٔـٰنَ وَقَدْ كُنتُم بِهِۦ تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ
Athumma idha ma waqa‘a amantum bih. Al-ana wa qad kuntum bihi tasta‘jilun.

Word-by-Word Meaning
| Arabic | Transliteration | Simple Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| أَثُمَّ | Athumma | Is it then? |
| وَقَعَ | Waqa‘a | It occurred / happened. |

| ءَآلْـَٔـٰنَ | Al-an | Now? |
| تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ | Tasta‘jilun | You were seeking to hasten. |
Simple Explanation
This ayah rebukes those who mocked Allah’s warning and asked for punishment to come quickly. When the punishment finally appears, belief at that moment is too late.
Faith must come before the unseen becomes visible. Waiting until consequences arrive is not sincere acceptance; it is panic after denial.

| Urgent Faith | You believe before warning turns into visible reality. |
| Respect for Allah’s Warning | You do not mock or rush what you cannot bear. |

Do not wait for the storm to believe the sky was warning you.
Say in your heart: Ya Allah, make me believe, repent, and obey before consequences arrive.
ثُمَّ قِيلَ لِلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ ذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابَ ٱلْخُلْدِ هَلْ تُجْزَوْنَ إِلَّا بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَكْسِبُونَ
Thumma qila lilladhina zalamu dhuqu ‘adhabal-khuld. Hal tujzawna illa bima kuntum taksibun.
Then it will be said to those who did wrong, “Taste the punishment of eternity. Are you being repaid except for what you used to earn?”
Word-by-Word Meaning
| Arabic | Transliteration | Simple Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| قِيلَ | Qila | It will be said. |
| ظَلَمُوا۟ | Zalamu | They did wrong. |
| ذُوقُوا۟ | Dhuqu | Taste. |

| تُجْزَوْنَ | Tujzawn | You are repaid. |
| تَكْسِبُونَ | Taksibun | You used to earn. |
Simple Explanation
The wrongdoers will be told to taste lasting punishment. Their punishment is not random or unfair; it is connected to what they earned through rejection and wrongdoing.

Simple Explanation

Fa in kunta fi shakkin mimma anzalna ilayka fas’alil-ladhina yaqra’unal-kitaba min qablik. Laqad ja’akal-haqqu mir rabbika fala takunanna minal-mumtarin.
If you are in doubt about what We have sent down to you, then ask those who read the Scripture before you. The truth has certainly come to you from your Lord, so do not be among those who doubt.
Word-by-Word Meaning
| Arabic | Transliteration | Simple Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| شَكٍّۢ | Shakk | Doubt. |
| أَنزَلْنَآ | Anzalna | We sent down. |
| فَسْـَٔلِ | Fas’al | Then ask. |

| ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ | Al-kitab | The Scripture. |

| رَّبِّكَ | Rabbik | Your Lord. |
| ٱلْمُمْتَرِينَ | Al-mumtarin | Those who doubt / dispute. |
Simple Explanation
Allah confirms that the truth has come from Him. The message is not isolated from earlier revelation; people of previous scripture knew the pattern of prophets and divine guidance.
The instruction removes doubt and strengthens certainty. When Allah’s truth becomes clear, the heart must not remain trapped in hesitation.
What This Ayah Builds Inside You

|---|---|
| Certainty | You accept the truth that comes from Allah. |
| Learning | You seek knowledge when doubt appears. |
| Respect for Revelation | You understand divine guidance has a connected history. |
| Steadfastness | You do not let doubt control your heart after truth is clear. |

Pause and Speak to Allah
Doubt should become a doorway to learning, not a bed where the heart sleeps forever.
Say in your heart: Ya Allah, replace my doubts with certainty and guide me to knowledge that strengthens faith.
وَلَا تَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ فَتَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلْخَـٰسِرِينَ
Wa la takunanna minal-ladhina kadhdhabu bi ayatillahi fatakuna minal-khasirin.
And do not be among those who deny the signs of Allah, or you would be among the losers.
Word-by-Word Meaning
| Arabic | Transliteration | Simple Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| لَا تَكُونَنَّ | La takunanna | Do not be. |
| كَذَّبُوا۟ | Kadhdhabu | They denied. |
| ءَايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ | Ayatillah | The signs of Allah. |
| ٱلْخَـٰسِرِينَ | Al-khasirin | The losers. |
Simple Explanation
Allah warns against denying His signs. Denial is not a harmless opinion when truth has become clear.
The result of rejecting Allah’s signs is loss: loss of guidance, safety, mercy, and success in the Hereafter.
What This Ayah Builds Inside You
| Inner Quality | How This Ayah Builds It |
|---|---|
| Respect for Signs | You treat Allah’s signs with seriousness. |
| Fear of Loss | You avoid the path that leads to spiritual ruin. |
| Faith | You choose belief over denial. |
| Humility | You do not reject truth out of pride. |
| Self-Protection | You guard your heart from becoming careless with revelation. |
Pause and Speak to Allah
The greatest loss is not losing the world. It is seeing Allah’s signs and walking away from them.
Say in your heart: Ya Allah, make me among those who believe in Your signs and never among the losers.
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ حَقَّتْ عَلَيْهِمْ كَلِمَتُ رَبِّكَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ
Innal-ladhina haqqat ‘alayhim kalimatu rabbika la yu’minun.
Indeed, those against whom the word of your Lord has become true will not believe.
Word-by-Word Meaning
| Arabic | Transliteration | Simple Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| حَقَّتْ | Haqqat | Has become true / binding. |
| عَلَيْهِمْ | ‘Alayhim | Upon them. |
| كَلِمَتُ | Kalimat | The word / decree. |
| رَبِّكَ | Rabbik | Your Lord. |
| لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ | La yu’minun | They will not believe. |
Simple Explanation
Some people reject truth so persistently that Allah’s decree becomes true against them: they will not believe.
This is a frightening warning about hardening the heart. Repeated rejection can become a barrier that the person chose until it became sealed against faith.
What This Ayah Builds Inside You
| Inner Quality | How This Ayah Builds It |
|---|---|
| Fear of Hardness | You avoid repeated rejection of truth. |
| Urgent Repentance | You return before the heart becomes sealed. |
| Humility | You ask Allah to keep iman alive in you. |
| Self-Checking | You notice when reminders no longer move you. |
| Dependence on Allah | You know faith is a gift that must be protected. |
Pause and Speak to Allah
A heart does not become stone at once. It hardens each time truth knocks and is refused.
Say in your heart: Ya Allah, keep my heart soft, believing, and alive to Your truth.
وَلَوْ جَآءَتْهُمْ كُلُّ ءَايَةٍ حَتَّىٰ يَرَوُا۟ ٱلْعَذَابَ ٱلْأَلِيمَ
Wa law ja’athum kullu ayatin hatta yarawul-‘adhabal-alim.
Even if every sign came to them, until they see the painful punishment.
Word-by-Word Meaning
| Arabic | Transliteration | Simple Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| جَآءَتْهُمْ | Ja’athum | Came to them. |
| كُلُّ | Kullu | Every. |

| حَتَّىٰ | Hatta | Until. |
| يَرَوُا۟ | Yaraw | They see. |
| ٱلْعَذَابَ | Al-‘adhab | The punishment. |
| ٱلْأَلِيمَ | Al-alim | The painful. |
Simple Explanation
For hearts that are fully hardened, even seeing many signs will not create real faith.
They only react when painful punishment becomes visible, but by then it is not sincere belief. This shows that signs benefit only hearts willing to receive them.
What This Ayah Builds Inside You
| Inner Quality | How This Ayah Builds It |
|---|---|
| Open-Heartedness | You ask Allah to let signs benefit you before punishment appears. |
| Fear of Stubbornness | You avoid becoming a person who rejects every reminder. |

| Humility | You accept that the problem may be the heart, not the lack of proof. |
| Wakefulness | You let reminders move you before it is too late. |
Pause and Speak to Allah
Signs are keys, but a proud heart can still refuse to open.
Say in your heart: Ya Allah, make every sign You show me a path back to You.

| مَتَّعْنَـٰهُمْ | Matta‘nahum | We gave them enjoyment. |
| حِينٍۢ | Hin | A time. |
Simple Explanation
The people of Yunus عليه السلام are mentioned as a special example: when they believed, their faith benefited them.
Allah removed the punishment of disgrace from them and gave them time to live. This ayah brings hope that sincere collective repentance can change an outcome by Allah’s mercy.

Pause and Speak to Allah
When a people truly return to Allah, even a cloud of punishment can be lifted by mercy.
Say in your heart: Ya Allah, make my repentance sincere and make our communities return to You before it is too late.
وَلَوْ شَآءَ رَبُّكَ لَءَامَنَ مَن فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ كُلُّهُمْ جَمِيعًا ۚ أَفَأَنتَ تُكْرِهُ ٱلنَّاسَ حَتَّىٰ يَكُونُوا۟ مُؤْمِنِينَ
Wa law sha’a rabbuka la’amana man fil-ardi kulluhum jami‘a. Afa anta tukrihun-nasa hatta yakunu mu’minin.
If your Lord had willed, everyone on earth would have believed, all of them together. Then would you force people until they become believers?
Word-by-Word Meaning
| Arabic | Transliteration | Simple Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| شَآءَ | Sha’a | He willed. |
| رَبُّكَ | Rabbuk | Your Lord. |
| لَءَامَنَ | La’amana | They would surely believe. |
| ٱلْأَرْضِ | Al-ard | The earth. |
| كُلُّهُمْ | Kulluhum | All of them. |
| جَمِيعًا | Jami‘a | Together. |
| تُكْرِهُ | Tukrih | You force / compel. |
| مُؤْمِنِينَ | Mu’minin | Believers. |
Simple Explanation
If Allah had willed, everyone on earth would have believed. But Allah allowed people to choose, be tested, and respond to guidance.
The Prophet ﷺ could not force faith into people’s hearts. Guidance is delivered clearly, but belief itself is not produced by compulsion.
What This Ayah Builds Inside You

| Patience in Dawah | You invite clearly without trying to force hearts. |

| Respect for Choice | You understand belief cannot be created by pressure. |
| Peace of Heart | You do your duty and leave hearts to Allah. |
Pause and Speak to Allah
You can carry a message to a door, but only Allah opens the heart behind it.
Say in your heart: Ya Allah, guide hearts by Your mercy and make me gentle in calling to truth.
وَمَا كَانَ لِنَفْسٍ أَن تُؤْمِنَ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِ ٱللَّهِ ۚ وَيَجْعَلُ ٱلرِّجْسَ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يَعْقِلُونَ
Wa ma kana linafsin an tu’mina illa bi idhnillah. Wa yaj‘alur-rijsa ‘alal-ladhina la ya‘qilun.

| ٱلرِّجْسَ | Ar-rijs | Impurity / filth. |
| لَا يَعْقِلُونَ | La ya‘qilun | They do not use reason. |
Simple Explanation
Faith is a gift that enters only by Allah’s permission. No person can force iman into themselves or others without Allah’s help.
At the same time, Allah blames those who refuse to use reason. When a person closes the mind and heart to clear truth, impurity settles upon them.

| Humility | You know faith is not achieved by ego or force. |

Iman is not a trophy the ego wins. It is a light Allah permits to enter the soul.
Say in your heart: Ya Allah, grant me iman by Your permission and keep my heart clean from rejection.
قُلِ ٱنظُرُوا۟ مَاذَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ وَمَا تُغْنِى ٱلْءَايَـٰتُ وَٱلنُّذُرُ عَن قَوْمٍۢ لَّا يُؤْمِنُونَ

| لَّا يُؤْمِنُونَ | La yu’minun | They do not believe. |
Simple Explanation
Allah commands people to look deeply at the heavens and the earth. Creation is full of signs pointing to Allah’s power, wisdom, and mercy.
But signs only benefit a heart willing to believe. If a person chooses stubborn denial, even clear reminders and warnings may pass over them like rain on stone.

| ٱلْمُنتَظِرِينَ | Al-muntazirin | Those who wait. |
Simple Explanation
Allah warns that those who reject truth may be waiting for the same kind of consequence that came to earlier nations.

Qul ya ayyuhan-nasu qad ja’akumul-haqqu mir rabbikum. Faman ihtada fa innama yahtadi linafsih. Wa man dalla fa innama yadillu ‘alayha. Wa ma ana ‘alaykum biwakil.
Say, “O people, the truth has come to you from your Lord. So whoever is guided is guided only for the benefit of his own soul, and whoever goes astray goes astray only against it. I am not a guardian over you.”
