Human Creation and Human Differences

Why did Allah create human beings?

• Allah did not create humans because He needed them. Allah is completely free of need. Humans need Allah for every breath, every moment, every guidance, and every mercy.Reference: Qur’an 35:15 says people are in need of Allah, while Allah is free of need and worthy of praise.
• The main purpose is worship. Worship is not only prayer. It includes tawhid, obedience, dua, gratitude, patience, good character, halal earning, family rights, justice, repentance, and living as Allah commanded.Reference: Qur’an 51:56-58 says Allah created jinn and humans to worship Him, and He does not need provision from them.
• Life is a test of deeds. The human being is not placed on earth for entertainment, pride, or random living. Life tests who is best in deeds, sincerity, truthfulness, patience, and obedience.Reference: Qur’an 67:2 says Allah created life and death to test which of people is best in deeds.
• Humans carry responsibility on earth. Allah told the angels He would place a khalifah on earth. This does not mean humans own the earth independently; it means people are tested with responsibility under Allah’s command.Reference: Qur’an 2:30 mentions Allah telling the angels He would place a khalifah on earth.
• Allah created with truth, not play. The universe, life, human bodies, guidance, and accountability are not meaningless. Every person is travelling toward meeting Allah.Reference: Qur’an 23:115 asks whether people thought they were created uselessly and would not be returned to Allah.

The angels asked, and Allah replied with perfect knowledge

• The angels did not rebel against Allah. When they asked about placing someone on earth who may cause corruption and shed blood, they were asking from humility and seeking wisdom, not objecting with arrogance.Reference: Qur’an 2:30 records the angels’ question and Allah’s reply: “I know what you do not know.”
• Allah taught Adam عليه السلام names that the angels did not know. This showed a wisdom in Adam’s creation that the angels had not been shown.Reference: Qur’an 2:31-33 mentions Allah teaching Adam the names and presenting them to the angels.
• The angels admitted their limits. They said that they had no knowledge except what Allah taught them. This is the adab of the angels and the adab of believers.Reference: Qur’an 2:32 records the angels saying, “Glory be to You, we have no knowledge except what You have taught us.”
• The command to prostrate to Adam was honour, not worship of Adam. The prostration was by Allah’s command. Worship belongs only to Allah. Iblis refused out of arrogance.Reference: Qur’an 2:34, Qur’an 7:11-12, and Qur’an 38:71-76 mention the command and Iblis’s refusal.
• Iblis was not from the angels. He was from the jinn and disobeyed Allah. This matters because angels do not disobey Allah.Reference: Qur’an 18:50 states that Iblis was from the jinn and rebelled against his Lord’s command.

The creation of Adam عليه السلام

• Adam عليه السلام was created by Allah directly. Allah mentions creating him from dust, clay, altered mud, sounding clay, and clay like pottery. These descriptions show the humble earthly origin of the human body.Reference: Qur’an 3:59 mentions Adam being created from dust; Qur’an 15:26 mentions sounding clay from altered mud; Qur’an 55:14 mentions clay like pottery.
• Allah honoured Adam عليه السلام with a special creation. Allah rebuked Iblis for refusing to prostrate to one whom Allah created with His Hands. We affirm what Allah affirmed without imagining how or comparing Allah to creation.Reference: Qur’an 38:75 mentions Allah saying, “what I created with My Hands.”
• Allah breathed into Adam from the soul He created. This does not mean a part of Allah entered Adam. It means Allah honoured Adam by creating and placing a soul in him by His command.Reference: Qur’an 15:29 and Qur’an 38:72 mention Allah breathing into him of His spirit and then commanding the angels to prostrate.
• Adam عليه السلام was created on Friday. Friday is connected to Adam عليه السلام, Jannah, and the Hour in authentic hadith.Reference: Sahih Muslim 854b mentions that Adam was created on Friday.
• Adam عليه السلام was taught salam. The Prophet ﷺ said Adam was told to greet a group of angels, and their reply became the greeting of his offspring.Reference: Sahih al-Bukhari 3326 mentions Adam saying “as-salamu ‘alaykum” and the angels replying with mercy added.
• The children of Adam differ because Allah created Adam from earth of different kinds. The hadith mentions colours and qualities among Adam’s descendants, reminding us that difference is from Allah’s creation, not a reason for arrogance.Reference: Jami‘ at-Tirmidhi 2955 and Sunan Abi Dawud 4693 mention Adam being created from a handful taken from all the earth.

The creation of Hawwa and the beginning of family

• The Qur’an teaches that humanity began from one soul and its mate. Allah created from that pair many men and women. This gives every human being a shared origin and removes the poison of arrogance by race, tribe, wealth, or gender.Reference: Qur’an 4:1 says Allah created people from one soul, created from it its mate, and spread from them many men and women.
• Hawwa is not named in the Qur’an, but the first wife of Adam is mentioned. The Qur’an refers to Adam’s wife, and Islamic tradition commonly calls her Hawwa.Reference: Qur’an 2:35 and Qur’an 7:19 mention Adam and his wife living in Jannah.
• The rib hadith teaches kindness, not insult. The Prophet ﷺ mentioned woman being created from a rib while commanding men to treat women well. It should not be used to mock women or claim they are lesser humans.Reference: Sahih al-Bukhari 3331 says “treat women nicely” and mentions the rib.
• Both Adam and Hawwa were tested. The Qur’an does not teach that Hawwa alone carries blame. Both ate, both became aware, and both turned to Allah.Reference: Qur’an 7:19-23 mentions Adam and his wife, their slip, and their dua for forgiveness.
• Marriage is one of Allah’s signs. Human companionship, love, mercy, family, and tranquillity are not random social inventions. They are signs from Allah.Reference: Qur’an 30:21 mentions spouses, tranquillity, love, and mercy as signs for people who reflect.

Did Allah say humans are His best creation?

• Use the wording Allah revealed. The Qur’an says Allah created the human being in the best form. It also says Allah honoured the children of Adam and favoured them over many of His creatures.Reference: Qur’an 95:4 says humans were created in the best form; Qur’an 17:70 says Allah honoured the children of Adam and favoured them over many created beings.
• Do not invent a loose quote like “Allah said this is My best creation.” The meaning of human honour is true, but the exact wording must stay with revelation.
• Honour does not mean independence from Allah. A human may be honoured, intelligent, and responsible, but still weak, needy, tested, and returning to Allah.Reference: Qur’an 4:28 says the human being was created weak; Qur’an 35:15 says people are in need of Allah.
• The body is a trust. Hearing, sight, heart, limbs, beauty, strength, health, and intellect are gifts that will be questioned.Reference: Qur’an 16:78 mentions hearing, sight, and hearts as blessings; Qur’an 17:36 says hearing, sight, and heart will be questioned.
• True nobility is taqwa. Human honour is not a license for pride. The best person is not the richest, fairest, strongest, or most famous, but the one with the most taqwa.Reference: Qur’an 49:13 says the noblest before Allah is the one with the most taqwa.

Human creation in the womb

• The Qur’an mentions stages of human creation. It mentions an extract of clay, then a drop in a secure place, then ‘alaqah, then mudghah, then bones, then flesh, then another creation.Reference: Qur’an 23:12-14 describes these stages and ends with praise of Allah, the best of creators.
• The word ‘alaqah should be taught carefully. It is commonly translated as a clinging substance, clot, or leech-like form. The lesson is Allah’s precise creation, not forcing a science-war argument into every word.Reference: Qur’an 23:14 and Qur’an 96:1-2 mention ‘alaqah.
• Allah mentions a mixed drop. Human beings begin from something tiny and dependent, yet many later become arrogant.Reference: Qur’an 76:2 says Allah created the human being from a mixed drop to test him, then gave him hearing and sight.
• Allah mentions male and female creation. Gender is part of Allah’s creation and knowledge, not something outside His command.Reference: Qur’an 53:45-46 mentions the creation of male and female from a drop when emitted.
• The angel writes what Allah commands. Authentic hadith mentions stages in the womb and the angel being commanded to write provision, life span, deeds, and final outcome.Reference: Sahih al-Bukhari 3208 mentions the womb stages and the angel writing four matters.
• The womb is hidden from people but never hidden from Allah. Allah knows what every female carries and what the wombs increase or decrease.Reference: Qur’an 13:8 mentions Allah’s knowledge of what every female carries and what wombs contain.

Every child is born upon fitrah

• Islam does not teach inherited sin. Every newborn comes with fitrah, an original natural disposition toward truth and recognition of Allah.Reference: Sahih Muslim 2658e mentions every child being born upon fitrah; Qur’an 30:30 mentions the fitrah upon which Allah created people.
• Environment shapes the child. Parents, society, education, desires, and shaytan can pull a person away from fitrah or help preserve it.Reference: Sahih Muslim 2658e mentions parents influencing a child’s religious direction.
• Children are an amanah. Teaching tawhid, prayer, manners, mercy, truthfulness, and modesty is part of protecting the fitrah Allah gave them.
• Fitrah is not enough without guidance. People still need revelation, prophets, knowledge, repentance, and sincere effort.

Human differences are signs, not reasons for arrogance

• Languages and colours are signs of Allah. Skin colours, voices, accents, languages, and features are not mistakes. They are signs for people who know.Reference: Qur’an 30:22 mentions the diversity of languages and colours among Allah’s signs.
• Nations and tribes exist for recognition, not superiority. Islam does not erase human identity, but it destroys pride based on blood, caste, race, tribe, or nationality.Reference: Qur’an 49:13 says Allah made people into nations and tribes so they may know one another, and the noblest are the most righteous.
• Different looks do not decide worth before Allah. Allah looks at hearts and deeds, not bodies, faces, wealth, or status.Reference: Sahih Muslim 2564c says Allah does not look at your bodies or forms, but looks at your hearts and deeds.
• Human weakness should soften arrogance. Every human began dependent, will age if Allah wills, and will return to Allah.Reference: Qur’an 22:5 mentions stages from creation, birth, maturity, old age, and resurrection.
• Difference is a test of justice. The believer must not mock bodies, languages, skin tones, disabilities, poverty, age, nationality, or family background.Reference: Qur’an 49:11 warns believers not to mock one another.

What the Qur’an teaches about the human being

The body, senses, and heart are trusts

• Allah brought people out knowing nothing. Then He gave hearing, sight, and hearts so they may be grateful.Reference: Qur’an 16:78 mentions Allah bringing people from their mothers’ wombs knowing nothing, then giving hearing, sight, and hearts.
• The eyes, ears, and heart will be questioned. What a person watches, listens to, believes, hides, loves, and follows matters.Reference: Qur’an 17:36 says hearing, sight, and heart will all be questioned.
• The limbs can become witnesses. On the Day of Resurrection, the body is not a silent tool for sin. Allah can make it testify.Reference: Qur’an 24:24 and Qur’an 36:65 mention tongues, hands, feet, and limbs testifying.
• Beauty and strength are tests. They should lead to gratitude and modesty, not vanity, cruelty, or disobedience.
• Sickness and disability do not reduce human dignity. Worth before Allah is not measured by perfect health, appearance, strength, or productivity.

Duas connected to human creation, family, and guidance

Wrong claims people make about human creation

• Claim: “The angels objected against Allah.” Say it carefully. They asked, and Allah taught them what they did not know. Iblis was the one who rebelled.Reference: Qur’an 2:30-34 and Qur’an 18:50.
• Claim: “Allah said humans are My best creation.” Do not quote this loosely. Use the Qur’anic wording: humans were created in the best form and the children of Adam were honoured.Reference: Qur’an 95:4 and Qur’an 17:70.
• Claim: “Hawwa alone caused the fall of humanity.” This is not Qur’anic wording. The Qur’an speaks about Adam and his wife together, then their repentance.Reference: Qur’an 7:19-23.
• Claim: “The rib hadith means women are defective or inferior.” The hadith commands kindness to women. It should not be turned into mockery or oppression.Reference: Sahih al-Bukhari 3331.
• Claim: “The Qur’an’s womb stages are only for science debates.” The main lesson is Allah’s power, knowledge, wisdom, and human humility. Do not turn every verse into forced scientific marketing.Reference: Qur’an 23:12-14 and Qur’an 22:5.
• Claim: “Race, caste, tribe, or skin colour makes a person superior.” False. Allah made differences as signs and for recognition. Nobility is by taqwa.Reference: Qur’an 30:22 and Qur’an 49:13.
• Claim: “Human dignity means humans can live without Allah’s law.” False. Honour increases responsibility; it does not cancel worship, accountability, or obedience.

What human creation should teach the heart

• Start with humility. A human being began from dust and a tiny drop, so arrogance is the strangest outfit a person can wear.
• Honour the body Allah gave you. Use eyes, ears, tongue, hands, beauty, strength, and health for obedience, not sin.
• Do not mock human differences. Languages, colours, families, and nations are signs from Allah, not weapons for pride.
• Protect the fitrah of children. Teach tawhid, Qur’an, prayer, truthfulness, modesty, mercy, and love of Allah.
• Remember Adam’s dua. The first human lesson after slipping was not despair. It was repentance.
• Live for your purpose. Worship Allah, avoid oppression, repent often, and prepare for the return to Him.
• End this section with self-reflection. After seeing Allah’s signs in skies, rain, plants, animals, birds, small creatures, and the human being, the heart should ask: am I living like someone created by Allah and returning to Him?
