Who was Isma’il عليه السلام?
Isma’il عليه السلام was the son of Prophet Ibrahim عليه السلام and Hajar عليها السلام. The Qur’an names him clearly, praises him, and describes him as a messenger and prophet. He is not only remembered as a child in the family of Ibrahim عليه السلام, but as one of Allah’s chosen prophets.
In Surah Ibrahim, Prophet Ibrahim عليه السلام praises Allah for granting him Isma’il and Ishaq in old age. This tells us that both sons were blessings after longing, prayer, and patience. In the Children of the Prophets section, Isma’il عليه السلام deserves a full page because his story joins family, worship, sacrifice, Makkah, and prophecy together.
