The Qur'an mentions her by role as the mother of Musa عليه السلام. Her personal name is not given in the Qur'an.

Her name and what is certain
The Qur'an does not mention the personal name of the mother of Musa عليه السلام. Tafsir and historical reports mention names such as Yukabad or similar forms, but these are not Qur'anic. For a teaching page, the safest wording is “Mother of Musa عليه السلام.”
What is certain is more important than the name: she was a believing mother living under the oppression of Fir'awn, she received inspiration from Allah, she obeyed in a terrifying moment, and Allah returned her child to her.
Her story shows that Allah may honour someone without naming them publicly. A hidden mother’s trust became recited in the Qur'an until the end of time.

The mother of Musa عليه السلام lived during a time when Fir'awn oppressed Bani Israel. The Qur'an says he divided people into groups, weakened one group, killed their sons, and spared their women. This was not ordinary hardship. It was systematic terror against families.
Her baby was born into danger. For a mother, the threat was immediate and unbearable: if the child was discovered, he could be taken from her. Yet Allah’s plan was already moving through the very fear that surrounded her.
This background makes her obedience even more powerful. She was not making a calm decision in comfort. She was trusting Allah while the world around her looked impossible.

Qur'an 28:4The command that tested every part of her heart
Allah inspired her to nurse Musa عليه السلام. Then, when she feared for him, she was to place him into the river. Allah told her not to fear and not to grieve, and promised that He would return him to her and make him one of the messengers.
This command was beyond normal human strength. A mother naturally holds her baby close when danger comes, yet she was commanded to let him go into the water because Allah’s protection was greater than her arms.
Her act was not abandonment. It was obedience to Allah. She released Musa عليه السلام from her hands into the care of the One who owns the river, the palace, the guards, and the future.

The box carrying Musa عليه السلام reached the household of Fir'awn. The very house that was killing the sons of Bani Israel became the place where Musa عليه السلام would be raised.
The wife of Fir'awn asked that the baby not be killed, saying that he could be a comfort of the eye and might benefit them. Allah placed love and protection around Musa عليه السلام in the place where danger seemed greatest.
This is one of the wonders of Allah’s planning. The mother of Musa عليه السلام did not know the path of the river, but Allah knew where it would land.

The Qur'an describes the heart of the mother of Musa عليه السلام as becoming empty. This means her heart was overwhelmed with concern for her baby. She almost disclosed the matter because of the intensity of grief and fear.
Allah strengthened her heart so that she would remain among those who believe. This is one of the most tender descriptions in the Qur'an. Allah does not shame her for motherly pain. He shows that He held her heart together.
Her strength was not coldness. Her strength was Allah strengthening a heart that was almost breaking.

لَوْلَا أَن رَّبَطْنَا عَلَىٰ قَلْبِهَا لِتَكُونَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ
Meaning: “Had We not strengthened her heart, so that she would be among the believers.”
Qur'an 28:10She sends the sister of Musa عليه السلام
The mother of Musa عليه السلام told his sister to follow him. The sister watched from a distance while the people of the palace did not realise who she was.
This shows tawakkul with action. The mother trusted Allah’s promise, but she still used careful means. She did not expose herself recklessly, and she did not sit without action. She sent someone who could observe without being recognised.
The story teaches that trusting Allah does not mean abandoning planning. True tawakkul joins obedience, patience, and wise effort.

وَقَالَتْ لِأُخْتِهِ قُصِّيهِ ۖ فَبَصُرَتْ بِهِ عَن جُنُبٍ وَهُمْ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ
Meaning: “She said to his sister, ‘Follow him.’ So she watched him from a distance while they did not perceive.”
Qur'an 28:11Allah prevents Musa عليه السلام from nursing
Allah prevented Musa عليه السلام from accepting other wet nurses. The people of the palace needed someone who could nurse him, and the sister of Musa عليه السلام offered to guide them to a household that would care for him sincerely.
This was Allah’s promise unfolding through ordinary-looking events. A baby refusing to nurse became the door by which he returned to his mother.
The same palace that threatened him now had to bring his mother to feed him. Allah returned him with honour, safety, and payment according to the reports of tafsir.

فَرَدَدْنَاهُ إِلَىٰ أُمِّهِ كَيْ تَقَرَّ عَيْنُهَا وَلَا تَحْزَنَ
Meaning: “So We returned him to his mother so that her eye would be comforted and she would not grieve.”
Qur'an 28:13Allah’s promise came true
Allah promised the mother of Musa عليه السلام two things: He would return Musa عليه السلام to her, and He would make him one of the messengers. The first promise came quickly when he returned to her for nursing. The second promise unfolded later when Musa عليه السلام became a prophet and messenger.
This teaches that Allah’s promise may come in stages. Sometimes one part arrives soon to calm the heart, while another part arrives years later according to Allah’s wisdom.
Her story is therefore not only about a baby being saved. It is about the beginning of a prophetic mission that would challenge Fir'awn and liberate Bani Israel by Allah’s command.

The safe teaching is this: a believing mother trusted Allah in the hardest moment, Allah strengthened her heart, and Allah returned her child as He promised.

What her story teaches
The mother of Musa عليه السلام teaches tawakkul when fear is real. She was not asked to pretend that danger did not exist. She was told not to fear because Allah’s promise was greater than the danger.
She teaches mothers and families that Allah sees the hidden sacrifices made inside homes. Her name is not given, but her obedience is preserved in the Qur'an.
Her story also teaches that Allah can use the path we fear most as the path of rescue. The river looked like separation, but it became the road her child and the beginning of Musa’s عليه السلام mission.
